Lady Ra (Beats Without Borders – BC) emerged in 1996 via CFRU 93.3 fm in Guelph, Ontario, Canada . Freshly trained on antiquated community radio equipment and given free reign of the extensive music library, each show she was able to program was a revelation. Ethnic flavours quickly emerged as her primary passion. Her flair for selecting wicked tracks and mixing them with ambient global sounds brought her many requests for djing local parties. After a year in Asia absorbing the local flavours, from Indonesian Dangdut, Sri Lankan Baila, Punjabi Bhangra, and everything in between, she relocated to Vancouver on Canada's West Coast. She is inspired to continue her travels both overland and underground, seeking out and weaving old and new world sounds into rich musical tapestries hailing from the Four Corners of Earth. http://www.beatswithoutborders.com

Tarun (Beats Without Borders – BC) is a tabla player, dj and producer from Montreal, Canada. He has been learning Indian Classical music since childhood with his guru Narendra Verma, and more recently, at the Allarakha School of Music in Mumbai, India. In his teens, Tarun was exposed to a steady dosage of the soundz of the Asian Underground and all-night raves on Canada's West Coast. This opened up a new realm of possibilities for him, and he has spent the last 7 years or so DJing, accompanying and producing music fusing the ancient sounds of India with modern electronica. As a tabla player, Tarun spends much of his time with various fusion projects (www.tamburarasa.com). He also visits India regularly to study (www.nadproject.com[/irl]). As a DJ, he spends much of his time organizing events with the Beats Without Borders Collective in Vancouver, producing large global music dance events at various nightclubs and festivals ([url]www.beatswithoutborders.com). He loves his bass, and mixes up the sounds of the asian massive, nu-school bhangra and breaks. He's shared the stage with Cheb i Sabbah, the MIDIval Punditz, and Janaka Selekta. He believes music and dance have the power to unite people, and is dedicated to building positive music environments which take people on beautiful trips to the faraway corners of their beings.

During this time she has had three main dj residencies and has had the opportunity to dj many special events and festivals throughout the United Sates and Canada. Many may remember her as Mistress Catherinna from at the Catwalk Club and DIE @ the Mercury at Machinewerks. Her latest dj love and passion is her present gig at Sin City in Vancouver, B.C., a montly festish night. She spins a variety of varying genres not limited but to include darkwave, dark electro/clash, retro & 80's, industrial and gothic, tribal and a touch of Middle Eastern w/ modern beats.
