MySpace to filter and ban music

MySpace.com will use "audio fingerprinting" technology to block users from uploading copyright music to the social networking site,

will review all music files uploaded by community members to their online profiles. The files will be run through a music database from Gracenote Inc.

Any artists here wonder how many of your songs will accidentaly be labeled as 'copywritten' and removed from the site? I wonder if this database is going to include netlabels and honor the Creative Commons license...?

This will have slightly less impact than spitting in the ocean.

As long as you can display Flash content in your MySpace page (and it'll be a cold day in hell when they enrage all their users by banning Flash) you'll be able to play anything you want in your page.

This just means that MySpace won't *host* them. Suck it up and get a real web host...dreamhost (http://www.dreamhost.org/redir.cgi?ad=bnfrbw|nwtekno)is great and even with their cheapest option they offer so much disk space you can host your entire music collection there (unless you have over 200 gigabytes ;)). You can play every track you own from your MySpace page.

I already have all my shit hosted on my sites, but since I don't have the time, nor the desire to code in players and links, I use the MySpace player and upload lower quality files.

seriously, they need to ban people from adding all that silly bullshit like flash work, slideshows, HUGE gif files and other auto-loading music links to profiles. I can't tell you how many 'friend' requests I've denied, just because I couldn't see the person's damn page to see who they were.
