I just walked around Broadway for a few minutes tonight and noticed alot of crappy new business's.. there must be 12 "salons" where the "bitches" can go doll themselves up at and forget for a moment that they have a big ugly butt. Getting their nails done helps that. .

But that's it these days.. Everywhere I go in Seattle it's the same old shit. Target Stores and Subways and the independant stores like Barbers (too many already!) or Vietnamese resturants (who cares)

It just seems like a bunch of boring business as usual..
There's not alot of place left these days that cater to poor people,
We DO have walmart and fast food but is there ANYTHING cheap on the Seattle waterfront? Nope.. just a bunch of pricey touristy shops and resturants.

I guess the government wants me to stay home and play video games when I'm not working.

And the greedy property owners who charge max. rent so cool business's stay out and another Red Lobster moves in..
Remember Hi-Score on Pine? .25 video games and cheap food..well it was the shit, there's nothing like that left in Seattle, it's all krispy kremes now..

What a shame.. life IS getting so boring..WTF, let's go to Denny's

Its not your god given right to dine out every night. Most people cook their food at home, thus saving money so when they eat out they aren't whining about their choices being limited to McDonalds and Denny's.

try getting a fucking job instead of playing video games, and learn to eat at home like most people.

society wants you to work, like everyone else, and feels no shame in not catering to the poor and lazy.

He has a point though..

The sad part is that most people who complain about gentrification are in fact part of the problem

(this town sucks. wanna go get subway ?)

I do agree that there are not enough places like high score around anymore. I also miss Penny n Perts, and their annual atari championships.

I dunno try shorties in belltown ? its my home away from home, and I dont feel bad about supporting it.

I guess the problem is that the idea so often becomes the institution.

what we need is for our CEOs to retain a certain ammount of dignity and not sell out at the first chance they get. Odwalla, Myspace....these were once really cool ideas. now their owned by major corporations, and they both suck now.

So, small business owners of america, dont jump at that first million that coca cola offers you, and maybe one day you can buy THEIR sorry asses.

yeah, and maybe im a chinese jet pilot.

tappingass, why dont you take up a hobby like playing the clarinet or picking mushrooms? i heard the french horn was the "in" thing this season. those things dont cost you anything and actually if you just stand on a corner somewhere and play your banjo or whatever, people will actually fill your guitar case with money. then maybe you can afford to use the bathroom at mcdonalds to take a nice hot shower.

if you ever want to start a band with dueling banjos, we need to take it seriously, stop wasting time and PRACTICE!

negativity will just make things worse

but if we get started now, nothing can stop us!

There's a Target on Capitol Hill? (Northgate isn't necessarily classified as the big part of Seattle...)

I live on the Hill. It is expensive. And I work hard for the money I spend in order to live there. But I live there for a reason. I like the big city, and I always have.

One of the "setbacks" to living in one of the biggest neighborhoods of the city is that it will be expensive. Yes, the businesses want your money. And there are a lot of them wanting it. That's what makes it a big city. The skyscrapers won't build themselves-- your taxes will.

Also, the waterfront is one of Seattle's top tourist destinations. Of course there are going to be shops dedicated to it. Just like Times Square sells millions of two-dollar "I <3 NY" tee-shirts and San Fran's Chinatown is full of cheesy Asian-themed shops with $300 foo dogs. It's a part of the city's culture-- maybe not the best representation, but a part of it, nonetheless. Deal with it.

And another thing, cheap independant shops are everywhere. No, not in the middle of Fifth Avenue downtown, but in the alleyways and outskirts of the city. They are pushed outward by the bigger, richer chains. And that's how business goes in America. Nothing new. So go to Jack in the Box for your tacos and Denny's for your shit coffee-- just because it's cheap. I prefer to spend the extra cash on quality.

Oh, and I have no idea why it hasn't occured to you to look outside the city.
Seattle is not the center of the universe, by far.
