portland is a pretty hip place to be as a musician. you can totally suck and always have gigs. i personally havent been able to fathom living there again and thats my home town. theres some people that actually know what house music is in portland. it also used to be known as the place where kids actually danced.

just on this board im pretty sure if you talked to 20 people or so and kept a pretty positive vibe, upbeat demeanor, and were able to show people your talent you could find bookings pretty easily. they might not be the best but theyre at least a place to start. a couple of the people that have responded to this post used to play some pretty shitty shows, (and still do from time to time) but theyre starting to make some headway and get better known these days.

people have to have access to your demo, but a majority of people dont go looking for people that have demos because they dont have the time. so my advice is to work on being a better person and slide in the fact that you have a demo.
