Kittens in Portland...

Ben and I had three feral kittens show up in our back yard yesterday. We are going to keep one - how could we not, it showed up on Ben's birthday, and he'd taken it inside and named it Bandit before I even got home, ha ha.

Anyway that leaves two others - they are both short haired, one is an orange tabby and one is black with a white chest and white toes. I’m not sure if they are boys or girls yet, the trip to the vet today should get that figured out. They are about 8 weeks old.

There is one catch - as of right now they all have the kitten snots - some upper respiratory infection that's really common to wild cats. They are all going to the vet today for some antibiotics, and I won't have them leave my house until they've been treated and are healthy, which will probably be around the end of July.

They'll be "free"... but I am DAMNED picky about where they'll go. If nobody here has any interest, I will be keeping them fostered in my house, and putting them up for adoption via some of the no-kill cat rescue places in Portland.

No pictures yet – I will post some once the snots have calmed down a little, nobody wants to see these little green-eyed monsters right now!

FYI: The three kittens have been re-named Wormulon (Worm-You-Lon) 4, 5, and 6. Wormulon 4 is a black/white female, weighing in at 1.1 pounds! Wormulon 6 is an orange tabby male, tipping the scales at 1.3 pounds.

Wormulons should be worm free and ready to go in a few weeks - after setting me back a few hundred bucks today. The things I do for innocent animals.

It's everything like a romulan, only with worm instead. My friend Tracy and I had a great time last night laughing our asses off playing with the kittens - "Wormulon Five, don't go over there! Disengage! Disengage!"

Kosmicdog - that's awesome - I will keep bumping this thread as they get healthier and closer to being ready for their new homes. I hope to have eye-goober free pics sometime next week!

They are a LOT healthier only after 2 days of meds and really spendy super-cal food - even the female that's been pretty timid was running around playing yesterday.

Very funny Ben. Erin and I have already had this convo. I did my own research on de-clawing and am, myself, against it now as well.

And I do have money to get the cat fixed. I'm getting my cat fixed as well.

To Clarify - the ALL black one is Bandit, the one that is ours. There is also a black/white female, but she is very timid and I think would do best in a quiet household where she can be the queen.

But it all could change in the next few weeks as they come out of their shells a bit more - let's just wait and see how their little personalities change, if at all!

It doesn't always turn out bad, my great-grandmother adopted a cat that had been declawed becauyse it was too aggressive, it was a really good pet for her.

Oh Adam. It's obvious you don't really get why I was so upset about you de-clawing your cat. It's really pointless for me to waste energy "going off" on somebody that has a de-clawed cat. Sometimes it works out fine, as proved by examples like this. Is it the best solution? No, hardly ever. But oh well if it was already done, right?

In YOUR case, there were several other not brutal things you could do to fix the situation, and in the end you came around and made the right choice, and that's awesome!

yesterday I napped on the couch, as I was up almost the whole night before..... they were wild at first, but later decided to all nap on top of me. I think they are all very friendly so far.

In the beginning they were affraid of humans, propably because her mom is a freaky outdoor cat.... so I teased them a little with my hands.... now they are used to hands coming towards them. They also pee in the litter already!

They are doing so much better, it will suck to give them up, way cool!

Yeah I know. I can't help it, I feel like evan almighty.... We have pidgeons building a nest on our roof, making babies while we try to sleep. Now 3 little baby pussies get dropped off in our backyard, my hair is getting greyer by the day..... WTF?

But they are awesome right now. Its just better to give them away now, because I cannot imagine moving 5 cats, especially if we move somewhere far away :D

Awwh! They are all so cute! I love cats. As it is my housemate has two cats that I adore. I am sure they are going to bring lots of joy to their owners, whomever that turns out to be.

dude that little orange one is great. i just want to to take him home to my daughter. when she was a newborn she had one just like it and they would sleep together in her bouncer chair for hours just cuddling. bell would rub its ear in her fingers until she fell asleep and it would just purr forever lol ah the memories....
