Many thanks to the Stay Safe Seattle volunteers who made Heaven possible, and to the DJs who donated their talents and sound equipment. I'm so proud of the hardworking, caring and creative S3 volunteers that I feel like I might cry like a mom at her baby's kindergarten graduation :p

Thanks to Studio 7 and Bones for having S3 do the chill room and supporting the awesomeness of chill rooms; which give people a place to relax, cool down, and prevent heat stroke.

More review later.

i hate a friggin awesome time! haha i spent about 99% of my time in the chill room just enjoying the vibe.
i went down to catch the tail section of doughboy's hardcore set, did some dancing, had a blast.

yeah, the chill room was great, i really anjoyed all the DJ's that played. keith of course did such a great job, incorporating the story telling with the music. hehe i was a little nervous getting up there and reading and whatnot, but, i actually really enjoyed it

i met a LOT...a LOT of people tonight, so i hope to hear from more of them lol. one girl i spent some time with tonight was someone names Wrath.
anywaysssssss

all in all for a first party, Bones, you did a great fucking job. things went well, security was extra cool, but then again i think studio seven security is my favorite, everyone is cool, thorough, nice, and gets the job done quickly. great job you guys, id have to say that was my best security experience yet, i never once fealt pushed around by them, and it was nice to see them actually patrolling around to make sure things were all going okay

the lazers in the main room were awesome! good setup guys!

for the Djs, TProphet, of who'm i have never heard of until about 1 week ago, played an awesome set, if you missed it, thats hella shitty lol. totally picked up the vibe from the moment i walked in.
Tankler threw down some cool shit, Kid amiga just played some awesome tracks. ;) like the zelda track ;) glad i caught that one!
The Hunt, (eric) had a crazy mixture of music going on, but it was good. a nice change ever couple minutes. good job!
Keith (Cowpunch) did a cool and unique set, incorporating people into the show by having people come up and read stories while he played.
doughboy closed out the night perfectly with the most chill music i have ever heard at a party. perfect way to wind down to a killer night.
i was upstairs but checked out Element, and...well..as much as i hate gabber, he played some good music. lol

and thanks to S3 for putting on an amazing chill room. i totally loved it!

overall, i'd say this party was WELLLLLL worth the money i paid, i never once fealt cheated out of my money, fealt like it was too crowded, or bad vibes. GREAT JOB EVERYONE!
i wanna see some pics now!

Nice job guys, overall pretty good show.

I am going to bitch about that ... ?? MC .. that Adam Sin had. dude.. wtf? You say "Were are going to show people what the rave scene is all about." Then you play rock mashups (and that is ok) but you ALSO have a "playa" from LA mumbling unintelligently on and on about bitches and ho's. Somehow I must have missed that part of the scene. (I still like ya and all, I just think that was kinda fucked up.)

Anyhow, good show, I hope there are more.

I played a wicked hard trance set that had the kids dancing and putting their hands in the air. I had a fantastic time doing so! It was refreshing playing a different style of music, got to flex my mixing skills a little bit.

I wanted to thank one raver in particular. She was a short punk rocker lookin chick with a short mohawk. She got searched, paid her entry fee, and ran up to the stage and promptly began dancing her ass off! If anyone knows who she was, let her know that that put a great big smile on my face!

Good Job on your first show Bones, I'd most def play another one fa sho!

Thank you! I had fun playing that set, I hope everyone enjoyed it.

Thank you to S3'd for hosting the chill room, and bones for throwin' the show. I had a great time, and things seamed to go pretty smoothly for everyone. Excellent first show!

Sorry to the people that asked for CD's after I had handed them all out. I did post the set online at www.cowpunch.org if you wanted one, and didn't get one.

Yes, THANK YOU so much for that beautiful set. That was just the perfect addition to all that had gone on and it would not have been complete without it :) I look forward to seeing you spin again soon Ritalin!

gah okies, long review post, i'll start with the main stage

bobby ritalin - goodstuff, nice way to start out the
nice. A few tracks i knew, thought I heard an alf bamford
track in there, dug that dominator remix and ended with that
newer remix of Breather's "Come on".

Doughboy - awww you know i dug this. The mix out of
Doe-boy fresh was sooo nice. Good stuff, ended nicely
with that Dj sike version of the manu chao track "king of
the bongo", I think i like that better than the cut & run version
for shure.

I mostly just bounced around and didn't hear many full
sets after this point, but i did like the beginning of
ElementDCLXVI's set, the hard breaks sounded all
sweet out loud.

I did hear somebody drop that BK vs. Vinylgroover track
"Microwave", goodtimes there.

Um, okay so onto the chill room. First off big ups to everybody
who worked on the decorations, I dug the clouds (wish i made
some myself!) the li'l jon ones were especially surreal and the
ashley cloud above the kandi table was coo. Umm, huge-ish
ups to everybody who tore up and down. As well as Rozi's
angel outfit was awesome, I was gonna make wings, but i look
like jesus with my hair/facial hair, so it counts! Thanks to jesse
for lending the monitor and jenny for bringing everything together
and bringing energy drinks later on, they saved me!

T-prophet - goodstuff, played a fair number of different stuff
and used that mp3 controller that i can't remember the name
pf at the moment.

Hunt - Brave guy of the night (your tracks sounded awesome
btw, put them up online!) made it through with one cdj for a lil
bit, but it worked. In the days of disco, some deejays would
play songs in their entirety to fully grasp the greatness of a
track, so think of it that way!

Roddimus (the tankler) - laid down a pretty decent set, played
some refreshingly funky stuff for his set as well. I don't think i
could deejay off an ipod, more props for that.

Cowpunch - Keith your set was awesome, I kinda figured you'd
be doing something interactive, worked out really awesome, thanks
for putting up with my fresh prince lyrics, heh.

Doughboy - your second set was ultra chill, you looked like your
were watching pots on the stove, but you wringed those mixes
out extra long, so props for that.

My set was sooper fun, twas great to have some folks out dancing
for it a lil bit actually. Definetly was eclectic. Gold star goes to Koopa
for spotting the zelda track buried in there. Nice meeting ya btw!

Um yeah, that's about it, pretty good for a first party bones, very smooth
and all. Kinda neat to see the red and orange reacting to the party, I knew
a couple of red and white folks back east, so its good to see they are just
as cool.

I think that's about it. Um, big ups all around, goodtimes.

This party was fucking amazing.
I loved all the music! ^^;;

Cowpunch did an amazing job (As you've all read.)

And Who ever did that last set (I'm bad at names, good at faces =])

It was, Well, Godly.
=]

I got all tired during the middle of the rave, and chilled in heaven. The vibe was amazing. Then near the end, somehow, I got Superenergized by something!

The last set made me dance like a mother fucker high ofn100,000 pills of caffeine.
XP!!

All in all, I just had an amazing time at this party.
Done said.

That sounds like Disorder... she's rocks, and yeah she was dancing her ass off - she ran up and gave me a big hug as soon as i walked in.

I got there late but - I enjoyed Mark and Steele's set, some of Adam Sin's set I really liked and other bits were just okay, and I was gettin into the beats Johnny Monsoon was bringin towards the end of the night.

I got a few photos but don't nag me people - I'm about three shoots behind. Also, I was experimenting with a rented lens which had focusing issues in the low light so I know a bunch of photos came out blurry... meh. Oh well, that's the price of free photos and experimentation :)

See you all at USC 10 ... I hope they let me in with my big camera! Word is they are not letting in any large cameras or video cameras if you do not work for USC or one of the headliners. Lame.

I want to thank everyone who helped out with making Release the Evil happen. From those that attended, danced, passed out flyers, spun, gave me pointers or just wished me luck. There's no way this could've happened without it! This was a party I've been playing with in my head for almost a year and was happy to see it finally happen like it did.

Didn't get a chance to spend tons of time in the chill area. But from what I saw and heard it was way impressive. S3 took advantage of the upstairs so nicely. It really was its own seperate area. Everything that happened upstairs was all on S3, I had nothing to do with it and gave them the thumbs up to do whatever they wanted. And they really delivered. At the end of the night, I broke even and was able to make a doantion to S3 for everything they did, I hope it was worth their while and we can do this again!

As for the main stage....

Bobby Ritalin - you opened it up proper. Didn't get as evil as I expected and it worked great. People were dancing while they waited in line for their wristbands and just kept dancing all the way to the stage.

Doughboy - really started getting it dark with some great tracks and had the main floor going. Was cool to hear what all you pulled out upstairs and downstairs.

Element DCLXVI - no doubt Element needed to be there on the main stage and he proved why. I had to stop what I was doing a few times during his set just to listen because it sounded so good.

Steele & Godfrey - So stoked to have Tobe back in Seattle and bringing along an old face from PDX with him. I can't imagine how sick the clubs in Vegas must be based on what these two did in Seattle. Even with the technical difficulties they had in the beginning with the equipment.

Adam Sin - you wanted metal and you got it from him. The MC was a last minute addition, wasn't my bag, but it still worked nicely. Way to keep changing things up throughout the set.

Johnny Monsoon - I was really bummed to see how many people hung outside or were sitting down during Johnny Monsoon. He's much more well known to the 21+ crowd, but this guy is the shit! To have him close the night is a rare thing but for a show like this worked out super sweet. Great to hear him play some tracks I haven't heard in a long while. Shitty that security decided to drop your volume at 4am on the nose after I said you could go over if you wanted, but guess that's how it goes when it's closing time.

I also gotta give huge props to DJ Soundwave. You weren't booked, but you showed up with records just in case. When the headliners needed needles you provided. Second time you've had my back in two different venues. People don't get much more stand-up then this guy!!

Props to Beefer and Rob for the hook-up with sound gear. Despite my weird requests and annoying stress levels, y'all got the gear and the sound the way it should be. And thanks to Dispair Works for the lighting. The lights showed up late, but with every DJ they kept adding more lights. Pretty bad ass to have different and more visuals as the night went on. Hope you get some more bookings soon!

My only complaint was that there were a few folks that took advantage of everyone dancing and stole shit from people. That's just fucked up and I can't wait to find out who you are. Even if I wasn't throwing the show, that just doesn't fly at one of these parties.

Yeah the lights were great! I talked with the visuals guys too, they were cool

I'm glad this party went off solid for ya Bones, I'm sure your next one will be even better!

As I'm sure most of you know, Bones and his security crew have made the local scene a lot better than it would be without him. Regardless of your tastes in music and whether you liked this party or not, you should thank him for all he's done and continues to do!

Well done, Bones!

it was a long night, but a great party.

i was surprised not many peoplel showed up, but it's probably because Release The Evil was right in between Rave 2 and USC 10. i wasn't planning on going, but decided to a few days in advance.

The music upstairs and downstairs was fantastic!!!
i made sure i was upstairs for The Hunt and Cowpunch. both of you guys are amazing and played an awesome set! :D

downstairs was rockin'. you guys had some great dj's playin' that night. doughboy's set was a great way to start out the night. i love how everyone got so excited when he started playing that song by EFM-7. ^_^
i tried to dance as long as i could, but it was soooo hot downstairs. i was surprised too because the turn out wasn't like all the other parties at studio 7 yet it was as hot or maybe hotter than it usually is.
props to EVERYONE.
oh yeah, i loved the beginning of Adam's set when he started playing Manson and then later on i believe i heard Blue Monday. Killer song. :D

can't wait to dance and sweat s'more this weekend!!

my pictures are now uploaded to my event picture site:
photobucket.com/albums/n307/thehuntpictures
just click on ReleaseTheEvil
djs...there are pictures of most of you.....
people....do what you want with the pictures

Main Stage:
djs:
___BobbyRitalin - started the night off with a great set
----I was really diggin the UK Hard sound......
----not enough djs play that style anymore out...in Seattle
---good job! I really liked the set
____Doughboy - played mainly hardcore
---there were some jungle tracks in there too....like that last song that I really like...with the ragga vocal
--pretty solid set!
____Element DCLXVI - here's where it started gettin really dark & hard...cuz he tends to be darker/harder than most Seattle djs
---he always plays a dark style......which fit the theme quite well
____Steele & Godfrey - wow.....they tore it up
-----They were playing all types of dark & hard music
---some tracks had a psytrance feel to them....some had metal guitars
____Adam Sin - it was cool to see him play
----I liked hearing Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson (one of my favorite artists)
---that song....toward the beginning of the set....got the dancefloor going and the people singing along
-----then he followed it up with hardstyle and that song by Orgy
____Johnny Monsoon - I didn't get to hear the set...but I'm sure it was some great trance

I liked that there weren't bright lights everywhere or a visual screen on the main stage
it added to the dark vibe of the party - Release The Evil
the laser light show was really good!....I like the colored lasers and designs

Upstairs in the Stay Safe Seattle "Heaven" Chill Room:
djs:
______T Prophet - he started the chill room off with some downtempo
----he was playing from a laptop....so I'm not sure if they were original songs or other people's songs
----either way...it sounded good
_____The Hunt (Eric "Hunt"ington) - that's me...
------I started my set off with only 1 CDJ there...so I just played my own 3 songs that I finished right in time for this show
----when the turntable showed up....I began to mix it up...with various styles....
----Halfway into my set, I figured out that the turntable had been plugged into the wrong channel on the mixer...causing it to always come in all full volume with no way of turning it down..plus the gains wouldn't allow me to turn things all the way down...so sometimes I just had to stop the songs that were playing...or just do all types of cuts & blends...but I rewired it...and it got better
-----I played everything downtempo: from ambient, trip hop, dub, rock, hip hop instrumentals, spoken word, & much more
----I'd like to thank Stay Safe Seattle and those involved...for having me play the event
____The Tankler - played a great set for about 2 hours.....
----he had all types of stuff going....and I enjoyed the set!
____Cowpunch - this was an good & interesting set
-----he had people come up and read children's books and he added effects to their voices....including myself
----I got a bunch of pictures of people up there on the mic, including me, Pickles, Rozi, and others
----he had a crowd gathered up front....since the music was great..and the whole performance was really interesting
____Kid Amiga - it always good to see him play
-----he always gets really into his sets......and is always messing around with his CDJs that he brought
_____Doughboy - it would've been cool to hear him play downtempo...but I was downstairs during this...and left around then
_____Sublo - it also would've been cool to hear him play also, but I left before then......he always has great tracks though!

I really liked the vibe upstairs....which is where I spent more than 2/3 of the night
At Studio 7...I usually like the view from the balcony anyways....but this time the whole upstairs was a chill zone.
It was like "Heaven" & a "relief from evil": People were hanging out on the couches, drinking the water supplied, making kandi at the kandi making station, and conversating
I really appreciate the effort that Stay Safe Seattle's crew members put into making it a cozy environment up there
Also, J Jones was doing visuals on the screen upstairs...which was really good!, as alwayss

Bones and those involved in making this party a good and safe one, deserve a big thank you....
so...THANK YOU!

Woot, Doughy sportin the DJ badge. For those that saw the DJ/Staff/Guest badges, that's actually Jimni's original sketch for the flyer. It eventually morphed into what was the final flyer, but I liked the original so much I had to find a way to use it. :D

edit: for those that collect flyers or just wanted a Release the Evil flyer, I still have some left. Noticed a few people walking around with them at S7 so thought I'd mention. I can't use them anymore lol!

Thanks Bones for an awesome show!! All the djs did a great job.

Bobby really got the crowd going during his set..

Glad to get to hear a set from Element when I can hear his own tracks.

The S3 chill area was the best part of the show!

Can't wait for the next one!

Wow! Release the Evil was a very different type of party than I'm used to playing. I was really happy to see all of the energy and enthusiasm of a much younger crowd than I normally play for, if not the challenges of a much different venue than I normally play in.

So, to that end, THANKS to all the awesome kids who made it out early enough to hear me play. The party got a bit of a late start, so I only got about 30 minutes in after the doors opened. Still, I got to play a lot of crazy fun stuff during sound checks, and I got a lot of friendly waves from people waiting outside and listening through the window.

I'd also like to thank the sound technician at Studio 7 for kindly lending us an extra-long XLR cable and an extension cord for the chill room. We couldn't fill the room with sound from just the front, and we didn't have enough power where we needed it for both the speakers and all the awesome gear that the DJs brought in. I'm pretty much a raw beginner at running sound, but with the assistance and expertise of the professionals in attendance, you'd never have known.

Overall, I'm really impressed by the professionalism and level of organization that Stay Safe Seattle put into this. They are a really awesome group of people, and I'd love to work with them again.

Some people have asked what I played, so here's my track listing (excludes the country songs and Sesame Street tracks I played during sound checks):

Rachel's (Selenography) / A French Gallease
Air (Pocket Symphony) / Somewhere between waking and sleeping
Mum (Finally We Are No One) / We have a map of the piano
Honeyroot (sound echo location) / Starshine
Abakus (that much closer to the sun) / California Sunshine
Bullet's Compliation #1 (you'll never find this, it's independently published in Tokyo) / [Japanese artist with an indecipherable Japanese name] Calmwarm
Plaid (Tekkon Kinkreet soundtrack) / Rat's Step
Aspen (Are you that retail snob) / This is why only teenagers can really love music
Boom Bip (Seed to Sun) / Roads Must Roll
Tantra Lounge 3 / Midival Punditz - Rebirth
Bliss / Song for Olabi (The only album I'm aware of that this appears on is a CSI soundtrack).
Massive Attack (Collected) / Teardrop
Talvin Singh (Anokha - Sounds of the Asian Underground) / Amar - Jaan
Poets of the Fall / Late Goodbye (this is the credits track from the game Max Payne 2)

For those of you over 21, I have a regular night at EN in Belltown (2nd and Wall). I play at 9pm on alternate Wednesdays, including tomorrow. As for events, you'll most often hear me playing at underground outdoor parties (I'm playing one of those on Saturday).

This party goes to show that single-room events with a chill room really do work! The setup works great in that there's a place to jump around, dance, and get all worked up and hot, and then there's a place to cool down, relax, and take an intermission. It's a great way to help prevent heat stroke/overheating. I do hope that other promoters take this idea and really incorporate it back into their events, especially with all the complaints about heat issues at parties.

Anyhooters, great djs, perfect crowd size, and excellent party overall. The floor was hopping from start to finish and everyone I talked to had one hell of a good time.

I particularly liked the hardcore (of course). I also thought it was fun that smoking section outside got to listen to the chill room music way down through the window. Har.

Those two lights were harsh and no matter where I stood, I couldn't avoid them. Ha aww well. Good times.

Thanks again, for inviting Stay Safe Seattle to do the chill room. <3

I had a great time, thanks to all of you who stuck it out until the wee hours. I must say, thats the first 3am-4am set I've played in years! That was also the first time I've ever stepped foot into Studio 7. It's a fun little venue. Sound system bumped pretty good, great setup in the DJ booth. I think the monitors must have taken a beating throughout the course of the night because they were cuttin in and out during my set which makes it exciting. :)

Bones did an amazing job for "his" first event. The best part about it was, at the very end of the night when I was leaving, we were chatting outside and the entire time he was thinking how he could have made it better and thinking of ways to improve the experience for all of you guys. I gotta say, that was pretty cool to see from a promoter after their first event, even if it was considered a success.

I got to give a huge huge huge hats off to Adam Sin, I was thinking how the heck I could fit in to what he left off with over the couple of days prior to the show. He played a dark, freaky and bangin set and sure enough, left me a a bangin trance tune which I can't thank him enough for! Extremely impressive man! :)

Anyways, I always enjoy gettin to bang it out for the all ages crowd and look forward to doing more shows in the near future.

Great job to all involved! :)

right on man. We need more rave photographers. Yeah it's hard isn't it? heh but your pix are lookin' good, keep it up!

We all appreciate the people with the big noticable cameras, but,

to EVERYONE:

don't forget to post your photos you've all taken with your little cameras too! You CAN practice and get better at party photos even with a little camera.

The more party photos the better - there is so much cool stuff going on there is no way one person can take all the photos. And thank your local "big-camera" photographer by getting a photo of him/her and posting the pic for them!

=P

You're the Best EV!

Thanks -

Yes actually, I have thought about making some sort of Seattle Rave magazine. It really wouldn't be that difficult.

Unfortunately, you need money to design, write, and print a magazine - even a web-zine. And to get money, you either need paying advertisers or a high cover price.

Ravers have to spange just to get IN, so they definitely aren't going to be able to support a magazine themselves.

I think NWtekno.org is the only magazine we have, and thankfully it's free or it wouldn't get much use. So unless ravers all of a sudden get jobs and have $$, I think it is just wishful thinking.

But a great idea, yes!

I've tried three times to write a review that includes all of the awesomness that was this event, but the gods of the Internets are against me and everything keeps falling apart before it gets posted.

I guess all I have to say was it was a fun party! Setting up and running the Stay Safe Seattle Chill Room everything went smoothly. Thanks to the Studio 7 staff for putting up with Stay Safe Seattle's (S3) shenanigoats and thanks to Bones for inviting S3 to do the chill room and contributing generously to our humble non-profit.

My favorite thing I heard all night was the Handsome Boy Modeling School track that Eric Huntington played during his set in the Chill Room. "I'm like a rough diamond that just needs a little polishing, that's all!" -Sparkles Peterson

We also had the pleasure of having two NWTekno mods play for S3's Chill Room, which I thought was pretty snazzy. Many thanks to Roddimus & liquid_kaos for playing for us and helping with sound.

A million thanks to the S3 volunteers, all of whom work hard to make this community safer and more fun.

My favorite thing I saw was people devouring the delicious information in the DanceSafe heat stroke brochures. Anyone can suffer from heatstroke, especially in the heatwave weather we've been having lately. Drink water, fitness beverages, or juice with a pinch of salt in it to keep your electrolytes/sodium levels in check. Recommend to promoters that they have fans or air conditioning, also chill areas, to keep dancers cool and safe.

Keep on dancin'! :)

wow so i realized i never did a review for this.
so i'll do one now! teehee

I really liked that it was only two rooms.
people should do that more at studio 7 cuz it was SWEET
i had a lot of fun
the music was banging!
adam sin and doughboy and bobby ritalin were tight.
no...all the djs were amazing.
i loved that there weren't a lot of people.
its was more intamite
you could actually go and move around without feeling too terribly uncomfortable.
i don't know, i get that way sometimes when its way over packed.

great night.
the only thing that sucked was that my boyfriends car got broken into
