So I just picked this one up (GU 19 - LA). As much as I love diggy dig, this one just seemed a little too...mellow. I love house and all, and I have no problem with the artists, but it just sounded kind of dark, calm(er than his other GU's). Kind of like Teneglia meets Nick Warren's GU set from Amsterdam. Is it just me spoiled on GOA and Terra Ferma right now, or am I not alone...?

over the last year or so digweed and a few others have been moving back to their progressive house roots, but playing stuff that's darker than the earlier prog house. hooj is a pretty good way to judge where they are going with it.

Yeah the new Digweed album is pretty different, compared to his other stuff. Actually I think his Global Underground Hong Kong CD sounds similar to this. A Darker, and at some points more tribal trance. It is pretty mellow at times but I still really like it. Even Sasha and Digweeds Communicate album is a darker style of trance. I think I like everything Digweed has mixed! :D

I'd definately agree it's a lot more deep and housey than what some ppl think of when they hear Digweed. I definately do like both of the CD's but they don't really hold my attention as well as his other stuff. I'm personally a lot more of a fan of Sasha and Digweeds stuff from about 2 or 3 years ago, especially their live sets.
My advice, if you want to hear some fabulous sets go onto Napster and type in Sasha or Digweed and try downloading some of their live stuff. Look for the Independance Night sets live from Orlando. Beautiful track selection and mixing.
But as for Digweed's newest. I'd give it a thumb and a half up. I downloaded it but I probably won't go buy the CD set.
Incidentally if you like the deeper progressive sound with a little more melody and a trancier feel go here: http://www.live365.com/cgi-bin/directory.cgi?autostart=k_lub And see what you think. :D

I'd love to, believe me, but I think attempting to download even an hour long set would take days on end seeing as I have only a shitty little 56k.
My brother's got the Hong Kong set, and I like that one much more than LA, but since my first impression of digweed was from Northern Exposure (expeditions), I tend to think of dig as a more upbeat house DJ than dark teneglia style. It's all good still...if only I could afford DSL...(I'm currently accepting donations :D

I wasn't at all impressed by the mix. It's ok, but definately not really what I go for usually...
Out.
