My last experience at snoochy boochies was great. The venue was large and staff were great.I would be inclined to go there again but its hard to sort out through the posts where they are at venues with less than friendly staff and security and I feel like a sardine in there.
I figured someone could tell me.Anything up to three months ahead are great as I like time to prepare for them.

I can't believe people do events upstairs. After midnight, the cops can just cruise by and tell you to turn it way down or GTFO. The condos ALWAYS complain about the noise, even on weekends. Seems way too risky to me.

hell yea... Friday at the lower level is where it's at. I don't care for the acoustics of the upper, far right portion, but the lower level is phat.

Talk about forcing a scene underground.

Looks like not a lot is going on there of a decent size for a while.I hate the idea of resident djs pretty much at anything as it stifles the night and makes it the same ol same ol.I guess some people fear change.Im not one of them especially when it comes to music progression throughout the night. Electric avenue seems exclusively house and thats great for a max of 2 hours.Same with drum and bass on Wednesdays but at least that has one of my fav drum and bass locals.
I think there isn't shit worth driving even 20 miles to go to for months in seattle area at this point after browsing the nwtekno calendar.Im blaming every promoter who is too polite to book a decent event on the same day as crap in fear of stepping on toes.Well now no one is getting my money.
This is one of the times being in Oregon would just be better.
Electric Avenue isn't exclusively house fyi, I've done dnb and dubstep there on separate occasions and it was fun :)

Nor do we have resident DJs really. But far be it from me to deny someone the marginalization of our free club night.

konkrete jungle isn't always exclusively DnB, they book dubstep and hardcore and some other stuff. DnB is certainly the overriding genre, but its not exclusive by any means.

i guess it depends on what genres you're into; there's a ton of shows coming up that i consider exciting, and none of them are house music.
i'm wondering by the 'seems like' if you haven't been to electric avenue? i think it'd be fair to check it out before dismissing it, seeing as how it's free and all. even if you hated all the music the crowd is cool, and it seems likely that there might be some unhate-able music ;)
they describe themselves on their myspace with:
'As UHF has aged, and tastes have changed, we now host events that continue to break the Seattle house music mold by transcending the artificial genre boundaries created by scenesters. UHF continues to focus on house, but now includes forms such as tech, electro, disco punk, commercial, electroclash, progressive, deep, mashups, funk, bassline, speed garage, glitch, broken beat, indietronica, and whatever other silly names one can come up with. Also, UHF members work outside of the standard 4-on-the-floor incorporating two-step, grime, indie, drum and bass, techno, hip hop, trip hop, and psy trance. We strive to throw FUN, UNPRETENTIOUS, ass-shaking shows that move us as much as they move you.'
i think that's pretty accurate; even though some of the people who started the night dj house and they have house in their crew name, i go to the night pretty often and it's definitely not consistently house music.
if i threw a free club night i would totally dj at my own night. it's not like you're making money, so getting to play for people is pretty much the point of throwing a night, right? but i looked over the lineups for the previous few months and it's not like they're headlining their own night or anything. in fact as far as i can tell none of the residents have headlined in months. and they have like 8+ resident djs anyway, so it's not even like they have the same person opening every week.
anyway ;) i'm just sayin'. it makes sense to me to write a promoter off after going to their parties/club nights and finding out that they cost a bunch of money and suck ass, but doesn't make nearly as much sense to say a free night that you haven't actually attended is lame.

My main beef with that is its one stage i believe. The lower level is pretty much all that will fit.
Point is I may stop in if im already in seattle. But im not going to drive massively far away to go to something thatto the best of my knowledge stops at 2 and has only one stage.I live damn near 90 miles from Seattle. Also I had no idea it was free ( although im sure they make the money on drinks)
what im saying is motor and studio 7 are throwing shows and the promoters that do it there throw hissy fits when someone else tries to throw something on the same day that I would have attended.Im not trying to dog on anybodies club night.
I would like to see any of you in my situation and still head up there to that.Hey if you rent out the upstairs and have three stages I will gladly drive there for your club night no questions asked.

i lived in bremerton and gig harbor as well and still managed to get by. i've been partying in seattle a long ass time. as well as throw events and dj. driving isn't a problem for me. if you want to attend shows that carry clout you just may have to travel a bit.

I know how you feel. Slinking back into Silverdale at 2:30 after seeing Cut Copy is going to cost me.
Sooo... what homeboy is saying is that if EA wants his cash they should be doing a mulitstage, multigenre, free, weekly to account for an apparent short attention span? Come on, be realistic. If you can't do the music format for more than a few hours than just pop by for a little bit. That's the beauty of a free night.
I love EA, it's one of those nights I can pop by for a hour or 2, get a couple of drinks, chill with a couple of friends, and dance without breaking the bank. Plus they really do break up the genres a lot more than you think (I've saw the Qool guys do a proggy breakbeat thing when I came through last, I've also seen DnB and Techno represented pretty well).

most shows with more than 1 stage generally put all their energy into the main stage and then the 2nd stage is usually stuffed into a corner, given insufficient gear and generally ignored by the patrons AND promoter. think about the "2nd room" at studio7, generally known as "the closet." its a fucking hole you can cram a DJ and 20 kids in to up the door price. and shit, I often think the side room talent STOMPS the mainstage talent, but because it doesnt pull heads, they get the shit end of the stick.
now, not ALL shows are like this. IOSIS would be a notable example. all FOUR of their stages are given the proper amount of love. generally, the "2nd stage" at a renegade show is actually someone renegading the renegade (been there, done that!) so a lot more dedicated effort goes into those as well.
I think you're unfairly generalizing your terrible experiences with S7 / Motor and all the above-ground "rave" (LOL!) promoters onto the rest of the EDM scene. the clubs are doing some cool stuff. its a little different vibe, usually more casual (free or cheap) and more alcohol based (see free or cheap.... you gotta make money on liquor sales) but the music is TOP NOTCH. and as I've mentioned to you before, there's still some underground events going on around the Seattle area that bring out great local (and occasionally out-of-town headliners), along with great sound, spiffy venues like you'd NEVER see anywhere else, sometimes amazing lighting (ever seen a 150 person venue with $5000+ lighting and lasers in it?) and all around cool people.
and if there's no shows you like, throw your own or stay home and listen to tunes.

I agree, the events going on in the clubs in Seattle are usually much more relaxed. Very little drama, no bs like at a party. It's nice to go to a good party every once in a while, but if you can go to a club, have a drink or two, and have a blast for less than the $25 they charge for most parties, that sounds like a better deal to me. I'm just happy to see a thriving music scene, despite an attack on the clubs/venues in the area.
