but no, a house is still the best investment you'll ever make anywhere ever.
this reminds me of desperate comic labels in the late 90s throwing in an extra variant cover with every issue of that other variant cover.

STUFF WHITE PEOPLE LIKE #75

"MOVING TO CANADA"

Often times, white people get frustrated with the state of their country. They do not like the President, or Congress, or the health care system, or the illegal status of Marijuana. Whenever they are presented with a situation that seems unreasonable to them, their first instinct is to threaten to move to Canada.

For example, if you are watching TV with white people and there is a piece on the news about that they do not agree with, they are likely to declare “ok, that’s it, I’m moving to Canada.”

Though they will never actually move to Canada, the act of declaring that they are willing to undertake the journey is very symbolic in white culture. It shows that their dedication to their lifestyle and beliefs are so strong, that they would consider packing up their entire lives and moving to a country that is only slightly different to the one they live in now.

Within white culture, it is agreed upon that if Canada had better weather it would be a perfect place.

Being aware that this information can be used quite easily to gain the trust of white people. Whenever they say, “I’m moving to Canada,” you must immediately respond with “I have relatives in Canada.”

They will then expect you to tell them about how Canada has a perfect healthcare system, legalized everything, and no crime. Though not true, it will reassure them that they are making the right choice by saying they want to move there.

But be warned, they will reference you in future conversations and possibly call on you to settle disputes about Canadian tax rates. So use this advice only if you plan to do some basic research.

Note: Canadian white people threaten to move to Europe.

Note: Europeans are unable to threaten to move anywhere.

Bullshit... that's what it WAS normal in the 'hayday'. The houses for over 1 Mil are only worth $600, tops... but people still think they can get more out of buyers in CA and it's just not happening. Since they have a cost basis to cover, they can't drop prices, so voila! Prices remain the same.

But hell, if I spent 1mil on a house in Escondido, I certainly wouldn't want a condo across the city.

i was thinking about this, and actually i wouldn't mind having a condo across the city. rent the fucker out. you got it for "free" so why not make some money on it? if it's a say, $500k condo, you could rent that for at least like $2500/mo, which would substantially cut down your mortage payment.

if i was in the market for a home i'd probably give this offer a decent look.

Well... renting isn't that easy. I have co-workers that rent out properties and say it's a pain in the ass. And they have upscale property. THe property taxes is what I would hate... but having to deal with a renter would be more trouble than it's worth, IMO. I'm sure some would hop on the opportunity, though.

hmm i really disagree, alot of people get sucked into this myth. houses are pretty solid investments, however the roi can be much better, with things like multi family dwelings... ie duplexes...triplexes... etc.. but not paying rent and building equity is a pretty awesome thing. read some rich dad poor dad if youre not sold.

making money at all is never easy. thats why its called making money and not taking money.

a coworker of mine owns a condo in Chicago, he moved to PDX recently to get a nicer job.

he was completely unable to sell the place. it took him 9 months to rent it out. competition was fierce, its a renters' market right now, and condo rules make it tough to find "qualifying" applicants. its a little more complicated finding someone to move into a condo than just putting an ad on craigslist. =\

he's renting the place now, but still paying $150/month out of his own pocket toward the mortgage, even after he gets rent.

owning houses in the city is profitable, especially if you're a landlord. IF you can afford property in right part of the city. isn't rich dad poor dad advocating going into rental management and precious metals now?
i just think the real myth is that all you have to do is buy a box in renton and you'll have guaranteed money down the road.

eh...my parents have been renting their second property (whichever they weren't living in) for years without any troubles. They have a pretty nice location for either place, and are pretty picky with the tenants, we haven't had any troubles at all and its been a nice supplimental income.

It can be a pain, but if you can do it, especially with a deal like this, I'd go for it.
