Wheelchair man 'over the limit' (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7469019.stm)

Police in the northern Australian city of Cairns have charged a man with drink-driving - in a motorised wheelchair. Patrol officers found the man stopped and fast asleep in his wheelchair in the exit lane of a major highway at 1000 (0000 GMT) on Friday.

He had a blood alcohol level of 0.31 - six times over the legal alcohol limit. When police woke him up, the man told them he had been on his way to visit friends. A local police inspector said that man's actions were a recipe for disaster.

"It's unlawful, it is unacceptable and people should realise it could lead to a fatality," Bob Walters told the Cairns Post newspaper.

Horses, bicycles, in-line skates and skateboards were also considered vehicles under drink-driving laws, he added.

The man is due to appear in court on 7 July.

I know the same laws apply to bikes at least here in Oregon, I wouldn't be surprised if they applied to horses and skateboards and wheelchairs too.

I think a drunk in public ticket sounds more acceptable considering that he cannot give someone his keys and walk.

Horses? I dunno about you but it has to take a stupid ass horse to comply with some drunk idiot who wants to run into the freeway. Most of the time they're smart enough to throw your ass and keep an arm's length away until you've sobered up.

How in the hell could you keep balance on a horse while completely trashed? Or a bike for that matter?

I was reading an AP article that said there has been an increase in drunk driving incidents involving golf carts because more people are using golf carts for short trips instead of their cars so that they can save gas money.
