Am I supposed to rant about what I think is wrong with the world now? too bad. I am much more interested in what you people think is wrong with the world/people. Even more so, what is your perceived solution?

I personally think that the biggest problem with the world...... Is that it is full of people that can't accept anything "different".

Now this goes for so many different areas....... Religion, government, morals, etc.. So many people absolutely refuse to just accept that no one else has to believe what they believe for us all to co-exist. People are constantly trying to push their religion, government, and morals on other people/countries.

Now, *obviously*..... I realize that this will never change. This is a problem that will never go away. However, if it ever did....... Things would be totally different.

It is the right of every human being to believe whatever they wish to, and if people would stop spending energy trying to change that person's belief's, and just accept that they are different....... Just imagine.

It's not about right and wrong sometimes........... It's about freedom to feel & think whatever you want without being told that you are "wrong".

*steps off soapbox*

Yes ill second that and add that I think the closeminded mindset is what is destroying culture, but most of this is mass media's fault for brainwashing us so thouroughly (yes we could just stop using tv and radio and papers and other forms media uses). When a religious or political view gets placed in the forefront most people today (with a different opinion) get OFFENDED... im not immune either and have to catch myself before i completely become a dick.

Too. Many. People.

I also agree with this... i mean we simply procreate TOO WELL. Like a virus (matrix). We are all entitled to reproduce, yet the smartest people dont for fear of modern risks, yet every crack momma cranks em out like a rabbit in heat. People are meant to die, from natural or un-natural causes, and we are meant to get over it... to learn, grieve and progress, and also life isn't fair, so we also have to just get over that as well. The rest of the animal kingdom has dealt with this WELL, why havent WE?? We are so smart that we cant get over death now.. how fucking brilliant is that?

*** I think the solution to everything is education and learning, whether from a college, online sources or simply surround yourself with intelligent kind people with something useful to say ***

also not to sound like a hippie but this motto has alot of merit in today's crazy climate "think globally, act locally"

people tend to ingnore problems in their backyard to send $.72/day to Sally Struthers

you are on the money! I am totally guilty and have not and will not reproduce. I am always surprised that especially in this country (it seems to me) I see so many teenage ( or very young) parents. Of all my really good friends (30yrs and older and about 15 of them) in Holland not one of them have kids, here, damn... start counting. I wonder why that is? :D But that's something else really.

Everybody's life is so trying and difficult, each person so self-absorbed, overstimulated and afraid, that it's a fucking miracle that even any two of us can ever get along at all, let alone enough of us to make a civilization. Frankly, I'm impressed we've gotten this far.

So what is the sollution to having "too many people"?

Regulate breeding?
Use of the death penalty more?
Killing anyone with an IQ below a certain level?
All of the above?

You got my vote for all of the above.

Mother Earth knows nothing and is dead. If overpopulation continues, nature will blindly follow natural selection and survival of the fittest. If you survive, it’s not because of some intelligent plan conjured up by a matriarchal rock, third out from the sun, it’s just your luck.

Murder and forced sterilization is not random. Well, maybe, but that gets into fatalism and more philosophy than we have science for.

No doubt. People seem to think we're killing the planet...

This planet isn't going anywhere. We will be gone long before this planet is phased.

Since none of us are in on the ‘plan’, saying we have ‘x’ amount time is pure supposition. You are here by accident and natural ‘righteousness’ applies to nothing more than your wishful thinking.

You or I or the whole world might die two minutes from now. Nature never thought about or cares how we might think about this.

I think most people, when they say things like "killing the planet", refer to driving species into extinction, fishing out and polluting the oceans and rivers, cutting down large swaths of forest and grasslands, pumping toxins into the air, etc. Destroying the natural environment on a massive scale, upsetting ecosystems. Obviously the rock will still be here, the question is whether there will be anything living on it.

Being cool to the planet is awesome. When being ‘cool’ involves murder, rape, grotesque mutations, famine, drought, genocide and all the factors that make mindless natural evolution possible, I wonder how I fit in to a globe that has no morality or respect for when we think stuff should happen.

I am disenchanted by a science that says our lives aren’t even a blink in time yet we should feel guilty about wars (like Iraq) that kill less people a year than nature does. Then we add in the ‘fact’ that this will go on for ‘a long time’ and shouldn’t worry. What is it, mindless weeding or that which has intelligent purpose?

You cannot impose your intellect and good intentions on a physical world that doesn’t even know you care.

Maybe education as well as available and effective methods of contraception could help curb the population explosion. It seems like women who are aware of the options, and in a position to use them, put off being pregnant longer. And boys would probably take a pill to avoid babies too, if there were one. So that's viably a solvable factor in the population problem. The longer lifetime is what worries me more. Really few people can face dying without fear, and people with the means will put off their deaths as long as possible. And so the richer the population gets, the longer we will live. All old and decrepit everywhere.

as to the original question posted, i pretty much subscribe to the "man in the mirror" way of looking at it:
if you wanna make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a-
change!

fuck. that's a question that takes days to answer. so i'll think about it instead, and probably come up with an answer in a week or so that's something along the lines of "not enough popsicles"

What science says we should feel guilty about wars (like in iraq)? Sciences usually avoid value judgements like this. And what does that have to do with "nature" (im not really sure what you mean by this) killing people?

Who is imposing what on what here exactly? Can you explain your ideas a little more clearly?

What's wrong with the world?
Fuck, we're what's wrong with it. If human beings were gone from the planet, this world would flourish.
Most any other animal has some animal above it that keeps it's population in check, but nothing kills us off except ourselves, diseases, and natural disasters.
We are self-righteous asses that claim to own the ground we walk on, try to live in a society that is ultimately flawed with bickering, wars, and the inability to co-exist for long amounts of time.
I fully believe that nature has it's way of managing life and we will all be destroyed or weeded out to balance the ecosystem.
I don't believe that the earth is in some way alive or conscious. I really doubt that nature has a thought process. I think it's just that there is a natural balance to things and there is a type of living force that equalizes everything.
This could be argued back and forth until the day we die because there really is no way to prove it one way or another, but that's what I see happening.

Blah… just an aimless vent. I’ve been engulfed with political and economic issues arising from gas prices to war elements. I figure that ‘collateral damage’ is simple from a mathematical (scientific) point of view. The who, what, where, when and even why is quantifiable. The (our) disconnection with empathy to achieve an analogy of evolution is the struggle. Emotions serve a purpose when directed by a mechanism that has none (?).
