Fence aims to deter deaths

"The Aurora Bridge, officially named the George Washington Memorial Bridge when it was built in 1931, has the second highest rate of suicides in the United States after the Golden Gate Bridge. Since a shoe salesman first leapt from the bridge in 1932, 230 people are known to have committed suicide on the historic monument, including five during the last twelve months.

While there is a concern for those committing suicide, Jodie Vice, legislative aide for Seattle City Council member Jan Drago, explained that the council is not attempting to take on the greater issue of suicide prevention but aims to keep those who live and work below the bridge safe."

Maybe you should pass out flyers on the bridge Spazz. If raves work for the homeless, maybe it'll work for the suicide-minded folk too. Talk to the city council about it :P

Look, people are going to commit suicide even if they can't jump off the Aurora Bridge... if they can't jump off that bridge they'll just find another one. At least with this one they are more likely to hit the water and won't make a big mess....

^^^I think everyone realizes that people who are hell bent on committing suicide will just find another place to do it. The point of the fence isn't suicide prevention - it's to keep bodies from landing on boats and properties under the bridge.
