"Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels has his share of critics, but it looks like he could coast to a third term this year because so far, no major challenger is promising to run against him."
so i kinda hate nikols...but how the eff do you vote him outta office if no one is going to run against him?

The problem is that no one wants to deal with the current economic issues and budget problems that plague our city. Nikols is a grade A douche. But there are I don't think there is anyone that wants to deal with this mess and possibly ruin their political career.

There was a little piece in the recent Stranger (http://slog.thestranger.com/slog/archives/2009/03/03/steinbrueck_vs_nickels)about how Steinbrueck is the most likely person to run against Nickels, and how Steinbrueck hasn't confirmed or denied whether or not he'll run. I guess Steinbrueck is almost even with Nickels in the polls.

The mayor was on NPR this morning answering calls from concerned citizens. One guy really ripped him a new one about how impersonal and uninterested he is in the ordinary citizens of Seattle. I'm not a fan, especially because he was a major force in eliminating clubs and night life and then changed his mind after the damage was done and is now trying to restore Seattle's night life... Thanks for pooping on Seattle's music scene, Mr. Nickles.
Oh and that whole thing about how he tried to kick homeless people out of downtown and ended up robbing them of the few items they had/need for survival. Kick 'em while they're down.

I read that in Real Change, Nichol's treatment of the homeless is just appalling.

I read that in Real Change, Nichol's treatment of the homeless is just appalling.Especially when Nickels' treatment of the homeless and blue collar/working class is compared to how he rolls out the red carpet for developers and Paul Allen in South Lake Union. But hey, at least the guy saves us some trouble by making it clear to us who his priorities are.

I experienced this first hand... I was running a food bank in Georgetown and he came by for a glad-handing photo op. He wasn't there for more than 5 minutes, didn't talk to one single client, clearly avoided eye-contact with them, and then he bolted, leaving a handful of staffers to do some "volunteering" as a crappy PR stunt. Ass. Hole.

except he says he'd step down 24 hours after being sworn in ... and let the city council appoint someone.
that is not good democracy, imo.
i may have to run against them both...just to get nikols out & not let the city council appoint some other asshole
