this party was totally horrible .... unless you are into fun. there was plenty of that to be had by all. other than having a complete blast and seeing multitudes of beautiful people (including chuck norris) i thought that it really sucked. especially the bar that was being run only by hot females. who does that?!?!?!? if you are thinking about going next year, think again. polish horseshoes & badminton were the only games saw out there. biosonik killed it, book him for every party.

i was worried that the turnout this year would be seriously hampered by being on the holiday, in addition to other quality events on the fourth. that proved entirely needless. friday night had an intimate quality, almost a pre-funk vibe, that i feel cemented the sense of unity for the duration of the weekend. ditto saturday afternoon @ the river, quite the Victorian picnic-outing. Ravi crushes dancefloors, and Professor Electro vs Kid Roo was murder, but i felt the champion title belongs to J Bio, diversity reigning supreme and every one a banger.

oh yeah: NINJAS, ATTACK!

Epic! Chuck Norris beating up a cop... that was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen at a party. Way to fuck with people! Definitely got my pulse going. The river was awesome! The area was beautiful! Pretty much everything about this here party ruled, hard.

For those of us that couldn't make it out this year (one of the hardest and easiest decisions to make all year considering), I feel that I speak for everyone when I say, "fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck......"

Please help fill the void that's usually occupied by a week long Afuera hangover with photos. Lots of 'em.

WERD!

So many smiling faces. Freedom lounge was the awsome! Music was the awsome! Stage decorations where the awsome! I cant even properly formulate words for the awsome this party was. I was stoked it was in the same place as last year. Having the river to cool off in during the day was awsome, and seeing tons of people in the superhero-esk costumes rawked. I just wish it hadn't have got quite so cold during the evening, made me very glad I brought along a jacket.

The chuck noris thing... Props on that damn sherif SUV!! I was walking from my tent to the stage trying to figure out what was going on and I swear I thought the cops had showed up at first.

Carl must have some little pouch of magical pixie dust cause when he sprinkles it on a party it turns to magical perfection. I'm having a hard time standing today but I feel very alive. Thank you to everyone who pitched in to make this a most epic experience.

BTW.... I recorded my set and the Electrokid vs. Roo set b4 my batteries died. This will get leaked.

Love ya!

This event was pretty much amazing in every way. Everyone was in a great mood. The weather was perfect. The sound was dialed. The djs killed it.

Oh, and the police/chuck norris/ninjas skit was epic.

This one definitely ranks up in the top outdoor shows that I have ever attended.

Also, making the redneck-raver fireworks display by shooting glow sticks out of my potato gun was freaking hilarious. Thanks to the kids who played 'fetch' for us. I was almost to the point of tears from how much fun that was. I think I'm going to have to bring that with me more often from now on.

The amount of effort that went into this show was enormous and you could really tell that it meant a lot to all of those involved. Thank you!

I am so positively charged.

This is what I live for. I am reminded why we are all connected. Why we choose the northwest as our home. Why we choose this subculture as our home. Why we DO decide to put our time and money and energy into events like this. Although i must say, there aren't many events like this!!

I am going to quote part of the Raver Manifesto (snicker if you must)...

"We continue to pack our bodies into clubs, or warehouses, or buildings you've abandoned and left for naught, and we bring life to them for one night. Strong, throbbing, vibrant life in it's purest, most intense, most hedonistic form. In these makeshift spaces, we seek to shed ourselves of the burden of uncertainty for a future you have been unable to stabilize and secure for us. We seek to relinquish our inhibitions, and free ourselves from the shackles and restraints you've put on us for your own peace of mind. We seek to re-write the programming that you have tried to indoctrinate us with since the moment we were born. Programming that tells us to hate, that tells us to judge, that tells us to stuff ourselves into the nearest and most convenient pigeon hole possible. Programming that even tells us to climb ladders for you, jump through hoops, and run through mazes and on hamster wheels. Programming that tells us to eat from the shiny silver spoon you are trying to feed us with, instead of nourish ourselves with our own capable hands. Programming that tells us to close our minds, instead of open them.

Until the sun rises to burn our eyes by revealing the distopian reality of a world you've created for us, we dance fiercely with our brothers and sisters in celebration of our life, of our culture, and of the values we believe in: Peace, Love, Freedom, Tolerance, Unity, Harmony, Expression, Responsibility and Respect..."

Yeah buddies. Remember?

And this time around, we even had CHUCK FUCKING NORRIS to protect our freedom! (OMG! I heart Chuck Norris.)

I heard so many people say they felt like they were 21 again, at one of their first AMAZING party experiences... the magic was that thick. Synchronicity EVERYWHERE!!!

There was so much fun going on, constant and varied. LED bocce ball, glow frisbees, glowsticks out of potato guns, ping pong, michael jackson songs a plenty at chickenhed (finally... thanks!!!), old friends, wonderful new friends, laughter so frequent and intense that I lost my voice... i did my first ever floating beer bong in the river, witnessed my first ever Karaoke Porn Session... WOW (complete with effects for all of those, ummm, flitting about in various dimensions of consciousness... hahahaha!)... etc etc etc.

I mean, come on. This party was seriously epic. That's right, I said it. EPIC! I am in awe at all of the incredible, beautiful, talented people we are surrounded with. I said GAWD DAMN!!!

All the djs were awesome. Bio... you did kill it. If I hadn't been bartending I would have been humping speakers freakishly. Ohhhhh yeahhhhhh...

Clint and Jed... yes!!! I am so glad my brother is back Stateside... those two THREW IT DOWN!!!!!! Okay, so everyone did. The morning dub and wine social was just as special as year one, though different... it was so humbling and satisfying to look out and see so many incredible people smiling with wine bottles on rafts in the sunshine, nodding or dancing to the music... damn people, i am so honored to be given that opportunity. It really is my steeze. :) I am blessed. I love you Erik... now we know for sure we never need to plan a minute of our set, it always works better if we just channel it... Freedom Style! :) Vera, Chad, Jonas... that bbq chicken song was freaking hilarious. Killin it, Vera... who knows, that song could get you signed, man. Shiiiiit.

I appreciate so many people. Thanks are due to many folks. Primarily: Chad, jonas, ian, and carl. You are a magical combo, aren't you? Well done indeed. In all respects. Thanks to all my hot superhero babes... our Freedom Lounge ROCKED!!! Great drinks, hookahs, comfort, eye candy, laughter, and then some. Thanks to everyone who contributed to sound, lighting, the skit, the setup/teardown/cleanup.... and of course, thanks to everyone who came out and participated in the magic that is AFUERA!!!

It is pretty amazing what we can accomplish when we give it our all, isn't it?

That was one for the record books, people. So much fun, so much goodness, so much love... let's keep it going.

(Can I get a HELL YEAH!?)

Awesome awesome AWESOME!

Ian, Carl, and everyone else involved in orchestrating this, you all did an amazing job! as promoters / event producers, you did just about everything right! I'm impressed and inspired.

Mega thanks for having ChickenHed out to do the chill area. I heard equal reports of people being disappointed and pleasantly surprised to find out that the 'Hed isn't all hardcore, all the time... it's just about doing what's enjoyable when the other folks aren't doing it. Whch this time included a lot of downtempo, ambient, and Michael Jackson!
Hope everyone had a good time in our lil area! Always more room on the bandwagon...

Highlight for me was the music around one am being so sick my tired self couldn't help but dance harder than I have in at least a year. ThAnK YoU!

Friendly suggestions for next time:
- More porta potties or at least a saturDay cleaning
- A lil more musical variety on the main stage (aka, less dubstep, less breaks, more of everything else not heard), mayhaps with a flow based on style not headlinabity.
- Encourage Leave No Trace and/or have more recycling options. Jon, Jenga, Meg, and I were the last people to leave and several camps had left behind a surprising amount of garbage for such a small event (not chickenhed! as always, super clean:). We moved some of that shit over to the two giant dumpsters, which were already overflowing with garbage. A LOT of this trash was recyclable. Sadly ironic.
- More unicorns. I only saw 57 this weekend!
- Spend the next year building a strong relationship with the real life county sheriff, so that next year he can actually come PLUR it up with people. Believe it or not, most officers of the law are actually REALLY cool people and like a lot of the same things we do. Like loud music, booze, star filled skies, and a peaceful gathering of people.

thanks again for an amazing weekend,
- jesiah

Its so funny. Carl told me I had to go a while back. It was like a whisper that ended up growing into a scream over the next few weeks. I had made plans to go out to the OCF with a small hoard of friends. At the last minute, I backed out and split to head up there.

You know, I have passed up mega-nights at the Oregon Country Fair in the past to come rage it up with you guys. Little do the hippies know how much fun I have without them!!! Ha ha ha!

Seriously... fukkin rad.

And to think, I was honestly considering stepping away from the scene. Not now. Not after that.

Epic.
So, it was quite the adventure, but I was kidnapped and made it to Afuera on Sunday morning. (after getting lost too because we did not bring directions). I was wasted in the car asleep and was driven out there without really knowing.
So nice to get there when the sun was rising. Had some bloodys, lots of hugs, cheked out the river/creek (which was not really cold) and had an amazing time. Even though we got there so late, I am glad we got to enjoy what was left of the party. Moring time if my fav anyways.
I would like to thank those who donated gas and money to help us home. I can't believe Jeff drove out there with 2 dollars in his pocket. Dude was on a mission for sure. I had so much fun in the little time that I was there, that I can't wait for next year. I will not be missing this event ever again. It is a true community/family/friend expierence. Pretty much, its how parties should be.
Eric and Briana, you guys killed it in the morning. You guys played pretty much the whole time I was there and rocked my socks.
Thanks to Chad the marinator, Carl and Ian (and I am sure a bunch of others) for making this event what it was. I am glad we were able to experience just a taste of the awesome weekend.
When everyone is smiling, you know its good.

So many people to thank, but number one goes to my new found partner in crime, Carlito! Next, the lovely Julia for getting our bar and lounge dialed this year and to her lovely minions, Victoria & Rachel. Drew, George and others for coming out and working a fair amount of the time and to all our DJs for killing your time slots. Obvious thanks to my gorgeous wife, Alice for allowing us to charge up the credit cards to make it happen and for running all the last minute town errands. To my boy Gary for coming up from Cali and helping me fool everyone with the cop prank - nice one brov! And to all our Chuck Norris cast, despite the hickups, I think we got everyone nicely. And let's not forget Jonas, cheers on our third man! The bar is definitely raised for next year!

Oh and of course all of our friends and community for helping make this thing exactly as we imagined it. In the words of the wise Borat - "Great Success!"

And for all you asking - we got the Chuck Norris / cop prank on video coming soon to a downloadable link near you along with this year's "Chicken Song".

This weekend was awesome. I've never participated in a party that ran so smoothly. The whole stage was set up hours before the first scheduled DJ.

Big thanks to everyone that helped make this possible. Especially Chad, Julia, and Drew for working their asses off. I've got to say that Chad is the man, I don't think I'd want to do another party without him. You can tell that this party is his child that he has been raising for years now, and that love and intention really comes through.

I've got to say ALL the DJs brought their A game. You guys made this party so vibey and fun all weekend long. Thank you!

The Freedom Lounge was really cool. Julia and the rest of the girls created a space that felt so comfortable. It was nice to kick it there and have a drink or two. Porn Karaoke was amazing, it was the only noise complaint we got all weekend. The Chuck Norris skit was awesome. The cop car looked amazingly realistic. Even with "sheriff" being misspelled on the side of the truck, I think the whole party bought that one hook, line and sinker.

ChickenHed you guys rock, I loved the space you created.....AND the music you guys were playing was awesome and fun. I wasn't annoyed at all, everything you did was remarkably in good taste. Thank you!

Thanks to everyone who came out. We couldn't have had as much fun without you guys. I had a great time. It sucks that it had to end.

I am so grateful that so many of our friends and family came to join us for Afuera again this year. It seems to have grown just enough, and quietly, the word is out that this is one of the most special gatherings of the year.

I hate to say it but when Chad and I got together on this thing the first time, we were originally doing it for selfish purposes. We wanted to throw the party that we would want to go to, and thankfully, with a little luck and a lot of help from our friends it has become just that and more.

You know what my favorite part about this thing is? Its that we've never thought about a headliner, ever. Every scorned young dj says they hate the practice, but we take pride in just being able to book our friends. Our friends and family are some of the most talented and tasteful DJs ANYWHERE and when making a line up we just plug in who would sound good when, with no thought towards who will draw or who's been playing longest or who's got the biggest wang. Just plug and play.

On that note I'd like to say a special thanks to all the people who came and played music for us, as they all came on their own dime, knowing full well that we were charging only in the hopes of breaking even. It couldn't have happened any other way and I appreciate all of your faith in the notion of creating, and contributing to, something greater than any individual. For that, Lance, John, Chris, Matt, George, Ravi, Jason, Clint, Jed, Quillan, Christian, Briana, Eric--thank you.

Although I am quite biased, I thought music was spot on all weekend. The pairing of Subdrive and Ronin for some heady dubstep Friday had me movin' early on and even though I was all the way across the field at the gate, I could tell that George crushed it on Friday. Ravi got things jumpin' Saturday night and things just cruised from there. Jed and Clint crushed it. I love seeing two people just vibe off each other and you could tell these two were doing just that. Eric and Briana own the morning and will do so as long as I have anything to say about it. There were a few grumblings about too much of this and not enough of that, but I think the blend of spices in this stew was just about right for my taste.

Thanks to everyone for coming, for working, for playing, for bringing games, and costumes, and masks, and food, and drinks, and smiles and great attitudes. We couldn't have asked for a better group of crew and attendees.

If you have pictures, audio, or video of the weekend, please--POST THEM UP!

WOOT! MASSIVE respect to Carl, Chad, Jonas, Julya, et al for their hard work on this one. Some highlights:

- Every single DJ rocked. Ravi was playing when I got there and from him all the way thru Briana and Twitch playing for 4 hours on Sunday morning, the music was amazing! Thanks for recording Bio btw...
- The bar was fwiggin aweshum! Great space you created...and such a lovely staff! Hard to leave that locale...
- Those sick little lights that Jed gave me for my fingers.....must bring those to every shindig for now on.
- Margo's kids and their obsession with the megaphone.....HA!
- Seeing Rachel's mom gettin down again
- Running into some peeps I hadn't seen since before we left for Canada! Much Love.
- The smiling faces during mine and Jed's set...truly gratifying!
and last but not least...having Dove decide to come the day before the show....love you so much babes!!

see y'all next time!

Thank you to everyone who helped put this together! This was the best Oregon outdoor I have been to in 10 years! I didn't see any jaded people out there and didn't feel any negativity around me. :):):):)

The whole Chuck Norris thing was absolutely awesome and creative! I heard that one person actually did end up packing up and leaving but I guess that's whats you get for being super paranoid. I thought it was freaking hilarious and that it was an awesome way to bring everyone back together.

The main stage was absolutely amazing all night Saturday. There was not a single moment that I was disappointed in the music. The Chickenhed stage was hilarious. I was a little annoyed at first but then I started to get it. :) Probably the first time I had ever heard Dolly Parton and church music at a party. :) I think it was giving all of us a little chuckle when a new song would begin. :)

Next year we need a designated train and some tunnels!

So aaaaanyway....This party was a hoot. I loved kickin' it at the river all day Saturday, staying cool, lauging at people falling down that hill, falling down that hill and watching Beck's river meditation session. Classic. After that, getting my ass kicked by Chuck Norris was pretty unforgettable. Pure Hilarity.

Everyone was in great spirits and having a blast. Freaking awesome.

The music was so on point...Sorry people thought there was too much dubstep. I guess I should have played trance.

Quillan and Ian killed it, and Erik and Briana were amazing that morning.

Thanks for having me play...I worked hard preparing that set and I had a blast throwing it down.

Thanks Turbo and Matt-e for coming and rocking out to my set after Tipper.

Thanks Carl, Chad, Jonas, Julia, and everyone else who helped make this one of the best parties ever.

Greatest party ever. Electrokid and the dj's that spun on July 4th were amazing. The crowd was the right size and fed off of each others energy. The vibe from the people there was all on the same note. I can't even describe how sick this party was. I actually feel bad that some people I know were not able to witness the best party this year. FIRE will have a hard time matching up to this crew's performance on this event. Locals are still proving the northwest is still underground and can STILL throw sick ass parties. Thank you for all that attended and thank you to the crew that put this together.

Im posting again, cause this party was SO RAD!

Extra special thanks to the girls behind the bar, its like, most the time, when there is a bar at a rave, its crappy drinks and rushed service, you ladies muddled drinks, added the necessary fruity business, and made it totally worth it for Chuck Norris Punch!

So big ups to this being one of my favorite parties since I moved to Oregon on December 27th of 2002. Chad, good job buddy. I really loved this Afuera the most, your hard work and effort are mucho appreciated. To Carl and crew, having this event with your birthday made one damn nice combo the lounge was classic and the sound was very nice!!! Last but not least thanks to all of my friends/clan that chose to join us. I really had a great time :)

Dude, I helped him make those in his metal shop...Ever seen a plasma cutter? Coolest tool EVAR!

The Polish horseshoes are such a good no-brainer activity at outdoor parties...Funny when people get all competitive over them...Ahem, *Roro*...oh excuse me.

Droid, every time I see the title of this thread I smile. +1 rep for you, lol.

Lagging on the video, this thing usually knocks me out of commission for a good week. So, I should have it up on the myspace site next week - just gotta finish a couple little editing tweeks.

Also, I should have this year's "Chicken Song" up for download for those of you asking.

I would have to say that so far this was the greatest party ever attended. Electrokid could not be stopped on July 4th and kept me dancin all nite! The people there were a great crowd to be around and the set up of everything was AMAZING. I am very glad I decided to go at the last moment, even having to work today, I have to say it was worth it. Being able to dance and party til 6am, my experience is the only thing getting me thru the day. Hope there is one next year!Thank you to the crew that put this together and making such a great party happen:D.

Please!!! I need more.

Fucking great party. Couldn't have been more satisfying. The line up provided endless grooving until well into Sunday. Ravi, Biosonik, Electrokid, Roo, Quillan, Deafchild, Bizcut, Brianna and Twitchdokter all owned it. I dont think you could ask for a better local line up.

Big thanks to Chad, Jonas, Carl, Ian and the ladies of the Freedom Lounge for reminding me why I stayed in Oregon this summer.

It was awkward at times, and I slept a lot. But people had fun, it was a unique event. Too much dubstep and downtempo type music, we could have used some dancey stuff Friday night, and the directions were hard to follow at the end. This was a life changing experience for me though, and I saw what some people are thinking and some was ultimately awesome (like Manoj, you are such an influence to me and understand where I'm at in life like nobody does!) and some people are just judgemental and dont look deep enough into others.
I got to hang out with some really nice people and see them have a good time, and I also got to spend quality time with my man and some dragonflies in the river, so I think it was pretty good and way off the wall but hey change and variety are great things.
Much love!

dragonflies in the river
They were amazing! So beautiful up close, too. I really wished I had a camera that was either waterproof or one that I was willing to take into the water.

Now... video?

Huh, well, I dug the music. Then again, dubstep is dancey to me.;)
Love family/community/intimate events. Feel so lucky to be able to attend quality events
like this. I was missing the beach party, but this made up for it.
See you all at the bridge.:D
