Samantha Kern aka Sassmouth settled in Chicago from San Francisco via New York City in
2000 where she rapidly reoriented her life to the weekly rhythm of
electronic dance music culture. Using her musical training and diverse
experience performing live as both a member of string quartets and
punk bands in the Pacific Northwest, she aggressively attacked the
techno question throughout the first decade of the millennium. Sam's
DJ sets reflect her love of dialectics - a tribute to her early
explorations into musical yin and yang. Stripped down sounds mutate
into jacking funky house, punchy techno, and beautiful sub bass lines
and melodies.

Sassmouth found a musical kinship with like-minded Chilean artists
while living in Santiago. She continues to return to her past
residence to perform at the techno centre, La Feria. Upon returning to
Chicago, Samantha performed regularly throughout the U.S., promoted a
variety of underground and club events in her home town, and built a
friendly and supportive online home for the electronic dance music
community with her website naughtybadfun.org. Sam also continues her
standard commute to beloved Detroit where she gained great inspiration
and experience playing at club events and the Detroit Electronic Music
Festival.

Sam, now working out of her creative base in London, regularly
contributes original tracks and remixes to projects for the
Detroit-based label Hej Records while continuing to play dates in the
Americas and Europe. Sassmouth, always the social being, is currently
working on musical joint efforts with Jason Dunlap of Chicago, djing
back to backs with the Punisher of Detroit, and as 'Pimpi Vampi' with
Chilean partner in crime, Ivan Stipicic.

I am very excited to be presenting two of my favorite recent Seattle transplants.
Like myself they established themselves in other scenes as DJ's and promoters and have ended up in Seattle.
Albert/Shift was one of the 1st people to befriend me supporting my Seth Troxler event and inviting to play with him at his apt.
His track selection goes from cutting edge promos from Detroit, Chicago & Europe to deep crates of classics

Michelle/Shelrawka is as hands on a mixer - tweaker that I have met in Seattle.
Never one to let the sound lie still she puts her own identity on every track in the mix.
For someone that hails from NYC she is nearly as nasty as any of the 1st & 2nd generation Detroit DJ's

A Chicago native recently transplanted to the northwest, DJ Shift's
(Albert Loo) initial forays into electronic music were heavily shaped by
the industrial and new wave sounds championed by the city's Wax Trax
Records. He would then later be inspired by the 90's Midwest rave scene
where his musical vocabulary grew as he was exposed to legendary djs
such as Derrick Carter, Derrick May, Surgeon, and Richie Hawtin. When
the Midwest rave scene died in the late 90s and along with it the techno
sounds that Shift had found himself leaning more and more towards, he
and his friends started the successful Meiotic crew
(www.meioticpromotions.com) in 2002 and work with like-minded members of
the Chicago dance music community to raise awareness of artists they
felt had not received the proper exposure to North American audiences.
As a DJ who is open to all music, Shift draws upon disparate influences
and experiences to create sets that ebb from the sublime minimal to
funky to banging, with a focus on forward thinking tracks that retain a
strong dancefloor edge. This sensibility has blessed Shift with gigs in
Chicago and Detroit and the pleasure of opening for artists such as
Michael Mayer, Dan Bell, Losoul, MANDY, and Jeff Mills. Always modest,
DJ Shift continually strives to perfect his craft while keeping the
floor shaking.

Michele, Miss Shelrawka {Mis-Shel-RAW-Ka}, Grew up along the east coast
leaving footprints between New Jersey and New York City. Growing up
around the sounds of classic rock and big haired 80's bands, she
discovered dance music in her mid teens. At that time, freestyle and hip
hop was branching out to become the next big thing.

While getting more intrigued by the hip hop music industry, she also
stumbled upon house music. All of these chunky sounds and bass out
beats caught her ear to no surprise. She began to attend house music
parties and became a dancer in the scene. Her love and passion for the
music that the DJs would throw down inspired her fervor to expand as an
artist to create her own music. This shortly led to opening more doors
to other musical styles in the electronic industry.

Michele first began her DJ journey with two of her friends learning how
to throw down Drum and Bass on vinyl; at which time she went by Lady K.

Hungry to learn more on her technique she developed and began to play
house and techno.

Her ability to combine and filter different types of genres together has
helped her open more doors for her journey with music. Michele's
transparent style ranges from house, deep house to techno, minimal
techno and tech house. She has also been known to toss in funky tribal
beats that are saturated by techy sounds.

She currently resides in Seattle, WA and remains true to her roots as
she continues to only spin vinyl.

I am very excited to hear what she has collected from her travels this year.
Sassmouth has been taking chances and touring where and whenever possible around the globe, never staying in one place very often. If I am not mistaken this will be the first time many of her relatives will have seen and heard her perform.

Sassmouth, a classically trained party girl, sought refuge through electronic dance music in an effort to escape the bullshit of capitalism. Always on the lookout for the next serious party, Sassmouth's training brought her to all corners of the globe including regular holidays in the world's techno capital, Detroit; annual pilgrimages to the Winter Music Conference, and regular visits to Ibiza's closing parties and the Mutek festival.

After perfecting the art of dancing 'till sunset, Sassmouth was inspired to DJ in 2002. Her youth, filled with classical training on the viola and live performances as a member of string quartets and punk bands in her home region of the Eastern Washington wasteland, Spokane, prepared her musically for her new role as DJ. She began fueling bars, lounges, house parties, and morning gatherings in Chicago with her mix of techno, house and electro.

Sam's love for the more minimal side of techno influenced her decision to study in Santiago, Chile in 2004, where she further developed her minimal melodic sound amongst the Chilean techno community. She eventually snagged a set at one of the top techno nights in the city at the infamous Dominica 54'-- once again rocking that friendly late morning crowd.

Upon returning to Chicago in 2005, Sassmouth, along with her close friend Antiphase and others, began organizing the biweekly techno night, Ettiket, and she continued her late night hijinks behind the decks at other Naughty Bad Fun Collective events such as those at the west-side underground spot Deadtech.

In late '05 under the direction of Chicago techno visionary; Frankie Vega's brainchild of 'Sassmouth Meets Punisher' was born at the special 'In Your System' anniversary party. Sam's collaborations with Detroit's Punisher, has brought an added depth to her sound. Their DJ act traverses the spectrum of techno and electro music, from glitchy minimal to a driving harder techno.
