Dude any dentist will put you on a payment plan.

Especially right now with the depression we're coming out of, dentists cost way less. I'm in the process of having a shitton of work done this month (10 cavities and an extraction) and its all going to cost less than 1500. (fuck you splenda; fuck you stress.)

If its a cavity they're usually like 125 (but thats for the tooth colored fillings), if you don't care about mercury possibly leaking out of the silver amalgam ones (rare) they're much cheaper.

Dentists are starved for business. Explain your situation; they'll work with you.

I'm not sure what's in PDX but in Seattle we have the UW dental school and they treat emergency dental issues for pretty cheap.

SEATTLE -- It used to be that you went in for a procedure and you paid what the doctor charged, or your insurance company did.

But with the new PriceDoc.com, you have a chance to compare prices and even try to bargain for lower ones.

It follows on the heels of PriceLine.com, where you're the negotiator.

"Willing to negotiate, I thinks that's where it's going to go," said Dr. Randy Swanlund.

Dr. Swanlund is one of the 500 providers in the Puget Sound region who've signed up with PriceDocm which is based in Fremont.

He says his younger patients are communicating on-line about their experiences.

"It said, 'I just left Dr. Swan's office and I love my smile,' and so it's a newer generation," Swanlund said. "Are they Twittering? Are the search engines more important than the traditional yellow pages and such?"

Now just like PriceLine, there are a couple of ways you can go about this. You can go for a fixed price or you can try to negotiate your own price down.

Shane Harris is one of Dr. Swanlund's new patients, thanks to PriceDoc.

"I went this route because of the ad on the television and the fact that I did not have any insurance period and the extreme pain," he said.

He compared prices here to other dentists listed, and is paying in cash for a bigger discount.

He figures he's saving a thousand dollars going this route, and the doctors and dentists who've signed up with PriceDoc figure this is the new way of doing business.

PriceDoc.com has been up and running since April, and it is set to go nationwide in November

Dude I was in that SAME position last year for my very back molar. They prescribed me some antibiotics BC it was an infection making it hurt, after that they popped the tooth. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't eat, the pain was unbearable.

I ended up having to pay cash to have it done. Something like $250. Sucks.

they work on a sliding scale and will hook you up. you need cash up front but it's very reasonable. we're talking less than $300 for a root canal and $60 for an extraction. if you go there in person and wait in the lobby for a cancellation they can probably get you in. check it out. they saved my mouth...
