Everything a beach party should be!
This was simply a lot of fun. I remember when I used to drive 2~3 hours for a party almost every weekend. Whether it was PDX or Vancouver or some random outdoor location far from city lights was immaterial; just getting out of town to party with cool people was enough incintive. I don't really do that much anymore but Time Machine reminded me why I liked it so much.
Just getting to the venue was an adventure in itself. The party was about a quarter mile or so down from where you enter the beach. That's not a lot of distance, really, but the sand dunes and roar of the ocean concealed all the normal indicators of party location. The beach was dark, illuminated only by starlight and a peak-a-boo moon. it was mysterious actually. As I started walking down the beach on faith that there was a party somewhere in the darkness, I kept doulechecking myself to make sure I was going the right way. The night was almost totally clear and as I walked, staring at the sky, I became aware of the diagonal slash of the Milky Way rising from the perfectly flat ocean and reaching all the way to the eastern horizon. The sky was teeming with stars and planets; their milky light reflected in the wet sand of the beach and shimmering on the ocean itself. I kept listening for the telltale beats which might tell me where my destination lie, but all I could hear was the constant wash of the outgoing tide.
Eventually I caught a shimmer of light and heard a random beat on the wind and I knew I was there. All the dunes around were illuminated with tiki torches and the dancefloor was full of people stomping in the sand. The projected visuals were really well done. A crazy mix of anime, live-action tentacle porn and indescribable oddness kept things visually interesting. (thanks Superlime Industries!) I didn't arrive until 11:30 or so, but the DJs that I heard all did a fine job with genres ranging from dubsteppy to progressive and buttrock goa and at the end of the night a live performance by Pr0teus that I don't know how to describe. It was melodic deep psy? It reminded me of deep house...long slow grooves...but with psychedelic sounds. Whatever it was, it was really good.
As is common for me now a days, the party was mainly about the people. I kicked my shoes off and danced barefoot a bit, really getting my groove on a few times, but mostly I was hanging out with friends and chatting up new ones. Everyone was in really good spirits and there were lots of laughs to go around. I met a group of guys and one of them said it was his first 'party' ever and one of his friends said it was his first outdoor party ever. Odd as it may sound, this was a bit mindblowing for me. I've slowed down a lot in my old age, but I've been partying for so many years now that I sometimes forget not eveyrone knows what my definition of a "party" is, where to find them, and all the various hedonistic trivia that comes from being in the dance scene for so long. They seemed to be having a great time so I was happy to be there with them.
Around 4am I got tired and headed home. The walk back along the beach was serene; the tide had receded so far that it felt dangerous and exciting to walk farther out then you think you should to meet the waterline. The moon had set so the stars were that much brighter and a friend pointed out a satellite (or perhaps the space station!) moving across the sky. It was the perfect end to the evening..
Electrohaze and crew deserve a lot of thanks for setting this up, it was really a pleasant event. I could tell from the start a lot of love went into the party; it really showed.
I'm definitely there for time Machine 3! :)

When I first checked out the space a few months ago with Electrohaze and Travail, I knew this would be a really incredible party. The ocean, stars, and terrain came together in a rare perfect combination. We just needed to figure out a way to get the equipment out there, and enough people to have a good time.
Well, we made it happen. I've never done a show on the beach before, and this is definitely not Golden Gardens. Getting equipment to the space requires either carrying it down a cliff and through a river (the legal way), or illegally driving on the beach and carrying it over acres of sand dunes. We ended up using a combination of both techniques, driving on the beach to deliver and pick up the main sound system. Of course, the usual set of technical glitches inherent to any outdoor show on top of this makes for a challenging setup and tear-down.
The sand absorbed more of the sound than I thought it would, even though we had the system up on pallets, but this actually worked out for the better. We received zero noise complaints. In fact, the town of Copalis Beach loves us! Many people from town came to the show to see what we were about. They much appreciated our "leave no trace" ethic and our respect for their community, and we left the beach cleaner than we found it.
DJs - The best of the DJs was, in my mind, Chopstix. She had the perfect match of energy and bass to keep the crowd moving. Nearly everyone at the party was dancing barefoot in the sand for the majority of her set, and part of the time, she tagged with Neo. This really added a lot - they play very well together and I'd love to see them do a versus set. A very close runner-up was Electrohaze, the man who almost didn't play. This is because Electrohaze didn't pencil himself into the lineup initially, and when I saw this, I told him that I wasn't bringing any sound if he wasn't playing. He relented, and I'm glad that he did--his set really got the party off the ground.
Live acts - Quartertone was the highlight of the evening for me. Believe it or not I've never seen him play an entire set before. This was a definite treat - the set alternated between banging DnB and something that was almost psy-chill, but not quite--there was a definite edge to it. I really like electronic music that is created live--I'd love to see Quartertone open for novaTRON sometime.
Superlime came out to do visuals, and they were really awesome (as always). What was even more awesome was seeing superlime and his other half. We've been friends for years and they're both really great people, so I was really glad to catch up.
All summer, I've been looking forward to this event. I'm very glad we did it, despite my equipment being covered in sand as a result. We all learned a lot, and I think next time will be even better!

First off let me start with the thank yous.
Electrohaze, if it wasn't for your vision and drive this event would have never happened. Thanks for letting me be a part of it.
TProfit, thanks for providing an amazing sounds system and for all your help with logistics, sorry about stealing your set sir.
J Ohm, thanks for busting your ass to get shit handled, we couldn't have done it without you.
To everyone that helped cook and clean and set up, thank you.
This was by far one of the best parties that I've ever attended and I been to quite a few. The party started off with my set. I had a blast and other than a brief power interruption I'd say I kicked some ass. Neo rocked it right after me and did a fantastic job. Pat Walen threw down a sick set but my absolute favorite had to be Quartertone's live pa set. It went from something from a horror movie sound track to hard driving beats with melodic overtones. Thanks god for giving us good weather because friday night it looked like we'd all need umbrellas. I can't wait until next year. If you were planning on coming and didn't, YOU MISSED OUT!

Well, that party was just what I needed. That was the most fun I've had in a long time. Now for some special thanks:
Electrohaze: You are the man, sorry I couldn't stick around too late on Sunday, but you know how work can be. You put together one hell of a show and I hope all the work was worth it to you because I think everyone had a blast. We need to hang out more for sure.
T-Prophet: Thanks for bringing out the sound, it was crystal clear and a real pleasure to perform with.
Travail: thanks for getting Naked and throwing all your money up in the air. We can't have a beach party without having some good stories about you. =)
Drunk Satan: Holy crap man, you were essential in getting this party going. I can't believe how motivated you always are to be helping and working to get stuff set up and where they need to be. And you brought out some good wine too.
Proteus: Dude, I loved your set, it's too bad there werent more people out there to hear it but I thought what you did was pretty amazing and I'd like to learn more about your setup.
Everyone else: Thanks for coming out, dancing, spinning, performing, and just enjoying yourselves. I had a blast and I hope you all did too.
When do we start working on the next party?

Does anyone have any pictures or video of this event? Unfortunately my camera was out of my reach for pretty much the whole weekend and I'd really like to get ahold of some pics. Thanks.

TiME MACHINE >> PART 2
08 - 29 - 09
The 2nd part of the series... after a 2 year wait since the 1st one. I think the wait was worth it.
TM2 has created memories that I will surely never forget.
Thinking back to what was it? April? May? I said to Travail, "Ok, it's time to do a beach party again. Start calling people."
Electrohaze has not had many events, 3 total to this date actually: The Original, Time Machine, Flux Capacitor, and Time Machine part 2.
The plan for TM2 seemed simple this time around; start planning early, and let people know about it.

The Stage wasn't as close to the beach as I originally planed, but it worked out.

The only problem with that, was our fire pit was much farther away than planned... As laws prevented it to be in the dunes.

I think turnout was good this year, however.. it's hard to tell how many people really attended. The beach is really large, and people were camped at various locations over a large area. This picture shows some people who were hanging out when we were still setting up. Sadly I haven't seen any pictures of the stage when we hit critical mass around 11pm. It's my guess that about 100 people were in the city of Coplais Beach for TM2, but I think the most that were at the stage at any given time was around 50.
Overall, TM2 was a big success.
The reason it was a success was the people who contributed to make it happen. There is no way I could have done it alone.
Thanks go to:
Beth and Victoria; you guys basicly kept me alive during this thing. MUFFINS! I was eating those muffins you made the entire time! Lets not forget the countless other ways you helped make this happen. From Chasing the tent down the beach, to cleaning up stains at the house.. What would I do without you guys?!
Drunk Satan: your involvement in TM2 has become truly legendary. You basically help everywhere... from the fire pit, to helping set up the stage, to your outstanding wine. Without your presence, I personally don't think I would kept sane.
Johm: not only are you a outstanding dj that I look up to, but you are a true friend. Helping me load up the truck at all those different locations all over Seattle, and riding up to the beach with me. Basically, taking over whenever things became to much for me to handle. Again, I can't fathom what would have taken place without your presence.
Travail: thanks for being with me on planing this one from day one, attempting to keep track of the guests by being a good host at the vip area and exposing your manhood. You and I seemed seperated for much of the event.. I guess we were busy! Ohh.. also your set. It was good... :)
Aaron Camp: thanks for funding the flyers, and coming up Friday night.. I really enjoyed hanging out with you. You helped everywhere you could, and played a killer set!
Tprophet: Thanks for upgrading the directions, providing useful information, and of course the massive speakers, generators, chairs, lights, and your mom! Clearly we wouldn't have had a party if it wasn't for you.
Neo: Without your kick ass tent, we would have struggled with this one. Thanks for providing this to us! I am pleased that you became part of the TM2 experience. I also really enjoyed your tag team set with chopsticks!
Joe: You have always been one of the key people involving the success of electrohaze events. Thinking back to the fund raiser and how much you helped then... you really did help make time travel possible. Your Set at TM2 inspired me, I will never forget it.
Pat: Thanks for coming out to this one, your set at TM2 was I think the best set I ever heard you play!
http://www.electrohaze.com/Tm2%20photos/7827_1135885549588_1000813718_30337360_6383206_n.j pg
Pr0teus: I am so happy you came, your setup with really cool to see all set up on the beach. I honestly think I enjoyed your set the most, as I was able to relax more by this point.
Darkside: Glad you made it out, provided a killer set.. and brought good people and good vibes! I hope we work together again soon!
Steven: thanks again! Your help with electrohaze events has not gone un noticed! I was pleased how you were holding it down in the kitchen. Your assistance in general is much appreciated! I am pleased you came, and hope you join us for the next round!
There were also a lot of cool people who I had only met for the first time that really surprised me. Those new friends, willing to help, eager to create the fun. One that comes to mind would be Reese. This guy was all over the place, and I enjoyed his energy in creating the fun!
There are others who's names I am forgetting at the moment. Please let it be known that your help was very much appreciated!
I know this has come to be a long winded post, giving thanks... but that's what events like TiME MACHINE are about... coming together as a group to create the fun!
