I have mad respect for NuBreed and granted Tygon was out sick but R.I.P. Open Decks! This is now just another club night with people who don't support it. I had to leave early due to a friend needing a ride but I heard from several people that the night did not go well.
Basically only 3 "open deck DJs" can play from 8:00-9:30PM with this new format leaving the rest for Production Companies DJs who all didn't even show up to play, didn't all bring people to support, and some only showing up for their slots.
What this night comes down to is how much money people spend on booze. Club Motor isn't going to keep this night going if people don't come and support their DJ friends.
I think the old format Marc started was way better because it was fair and gave new talent a chance to learn and be heard. Come @ 8PM with 1 friend, sign up for a time-slot, hang out, meet new people, listen to new music until you play. I remember their being at least 20 DJs trying to play!

::TIGERLOVE::ok so me and you haven't seen eye to eye on some things but i must say i agree with you on this. i haven't ever been to this but just hearing what i hear, seattle dont need another club night. seattle has alot of unnoticed talent and this old format you speak of sounds like something seattle and the scene needs. give the new guys and girls a chance to show what they got, seattle has a lot of nights already and last time i checked it seems like its the same 5 djs gettin booked every night. i highly suggest moving this back to how it used to be and show everyone that seattle has love for the djs that dont get a chance to be heard.

I think the idea was good. Invite crews out to spin so that they can bring friends and supporters (who will drink and make Motor happy). But if DJs are showing up at their specific time it defeats the whole purpose.
Maybe block of 90 minutes for 1 crew once a week but the rest of the time should be left for completely open decks first come first serve (or maybe random draw at 8pm for all that are there).

I will be playing with the Full Blast! UKG Crew tomorrow night, but I still plan on being there @ or around 8pm. We have to SUPPORT THE NIGHT, not just think of it as another "gig".

Yah guys sorry i was out. Had pneumonia.
I'll be back this week.
The format of this night is still not set in stone.
One of the goals i had when setting this up as a community night was a) yes to give some extra deck time to some of my roster that doesn't necessarily play on as a regular basis, but to also give this opportunity to some of the smaller crews in town. Additionally, I dont know how many times I get asked to book people. People I've never heard, and a mix cd/mp3 only goes so far. So if I X times a month, I have 3, thirty minute slots, I'm going to put in those slots people who are wanting to get booked.
If this is going to digress to a night where crews only show up with the same djs, at their timeslot, play and go home then clearly they arent in tune with the spirit and goal of the night and should not be involved, or the night should be changed back to the Open Deck format and a discussion needs to be held on how to best manage that.
I'll reiterate most of this in the thread for tomorrow night.
Disappointed to hear it didnt go well without me there, but much thanks to LoveBug and MRDJ for holding down the fort while I was in quarantine.
This week, I'm requesting that any and all production companies AND INDIVIDUALS that are wanting to be involved come out, and get there early. There will be an open discussion about the night, the problems that come inherently

I personally really enjoyed the old open decks format because there was a good mix of affiliated locals, newbs, and old schoolers who used to play out but don't get the chance anymore for various reasons. It created a really fun environment because the people who were there came to play and hear other people play.
Giving 3/4s of the night to production companies isn't really going to help you hear new talent and if the other djs are there to represent their crew/companies than they probaly will be less inclined to experiment and play the unusual sets they were doing for the previous open decks nights (which in my opinion was half the fun, any one remember Ian K's all 90's set? t'was rad!) I would really like to see the focus remain on the people coming to play for fun and there's really nothing to stop a company from organizing their dj's and coming out to play, they just have to get there early and support and sign up like everyone else does.

I agree with Kyle on this actually. I don't mind the idea of booking out part of the night, but maybe just not MOST of it.

I'm still sad this night sprung up after I left, I would sooo be a regular supporter.
as far as nights just becoming about how much fluid the club can charge for in a night, that's nothing new.
If you don't bring your friends, they can't make money, if they can't make money for letting you use their venue, they've no reason to let you use the venue.
