Heard music like that? Yea dude, you'd have to have been under a rock for the past 15 years to never have heard funky, jackin house. Go listen to some old Petalpusher, Drop Music and a few Airtight Records releases...solid house that most people never fully appreciated (but the heads did) through the late 90s and the 00s.
There would actually be a lot more funky house if 'fidget' producers weren't infecting solid tracks with lame synth lines.

What can I say, I'm new to this kind of House, and I love it! I used to listen to mostly Trance/Psy-Trance and Big Beat, like ATB, Infected Mushroom, Astrix, Dj Icey, Dj Special, and Chemical Brothers when I was younger....
Only recently have I discovered the awesomeness of House and its Funky cousin, "Jackin' House". I hope they don't call it "Jackin " House because you have to be Jacked-Up to dance to it....that would be not too good association.
But yeah, for sure, I'll be listening to "Petalpusher, Drop Music and a few Airtight Records release". Petalpusher sounds familiar, but I can't remember where.
But I agree with ya on "fidget" House, or what I like to callFunky IDM (Intricate Dance Music) House: too much synth lines. If it was more "natural" IDM, I would all into it. But, it sounds too Techno-y (no offense Techno fans) for me. But I do like some complex Tech-House, so I guess its cool with me.
Anyway, thanks for the advice B_tech. I'll check out those labels.

Hey Fish-n-Chips,
I finally DL your track 'lil funky'. Its very nice! I like the intro with the female singing and the electro-funk melodies: sounds old-skool style, mixed with the nu-style.
39 minutes huh?! Thats a lot of free music! Thanks again for the DL. Sounds great. Not exactly Funky House, but Funky Breaks and Nu-Funk is gotta be cousins or the younger brother of Funky House.
Oh, and sweet mixing at 3:15. I love when Dj's do that slow, gradual mixing between tracks. The way its meant to be spun!
4:30 and on is OK. Not really into the drum solo.
6:16 is pretty sweet. Just for the one second.
7:35 My favorite part of the mix. Funky and futuristic! Awesome funky vocal cuts.
Then it gets really good at 9:00-9:45...progressing nicely. Electro-funk voice! Love that.
Well, I gotta go cook some steak. I'll be back to edit this when I have listened to the whole mix (which is pretty long!).
Future Funky!

jackin' is a term used to describe how people would enthusiastically react and dance to house music. it originated during house's formative years in the 80s. jackin' is pretty much as old as house itself.

Indeed. In fact, some of the early house jocks used 'Jackin' in their DJ names. It's been applied to different things over the years.

^^ you guys beat me to it...
Check Stompy.com for a store dedicated to all things house, great funky house selection.
Thought this was gonna be a thread about UK Funky, which although its not house (IMO) it can be pretty good.. reminds me of old tribal deep house without the constant 4/4, the beats are a bit more skippy.
Funky and Deep house are what got me into the DJ thing way back... love this stuff still.

YES Jackin' House.

Jackin is also the term for dancing (usually to some sort of house) when instead of bobbing your head down on the beat, you bob it up, giving it the look of a Jackhammer, where I assume the term came from.
I love it when someone gets into some genre that's been around for decades, and they act like it's some new thing they need to share w/everyone just because they haven't heard it before.

I think modern production techniques (eg, sidechain techniques) add something that was lacking in the past. But I can't exactly put my finger on what it is. Mainly, I think we're able to make it louder without making it sound like ass.

Here's 5 more tracks that I have to add to my Top favorite Funky House tracks that I recently found.
1) Friend of Mine (Original Mix) - Miles Maeda (http://soundcloud.com/miles-maeda/friend-of-mine-original-mix)
2) Miles Maeda - My World (Giom Remix) - Premaster (http://soundcloud.com/giom/miles-maeda-my-world-giom-remix-premaster)
3) Bring Down the Walls - Giom (UK) (http://soundcloud.com/giom/bring-down-the-walls)
4) I Know You're Right - Giom (UK) (http://soundcloud.com/giom/i-know-you-were-right)
5) Dave Allison - Bon Dapp (Bernard Jones' Funk It Up Mix) (http://soundcloud.com/bernard-jones/dave-allison-bon-dapp-bernard-jones-funk-it-up-mix) -> A 8-minute House track. Its quite the journey, and its worth the trip.
Lovin' all these tracks. Just the right elements of House to make incredibly danceable music.

I love it when someone gets into some genre that's been around for decades, and they act like it's some new thing they need to share w/everyone just because they haven't heard it before.
I love it when someone feels the need to talk shit to someone who is just expressing their excitement at a genre of music that's been around for decades, in turn making himself look like an ass.
I don't get it. I'm not trying to get all PLUR up here, because, if you knew me, that's really not me or my style. But I really find the whole elitist thing kind of rude and off-putting. I mean, this scene was built on acceptance, and not really knowing or showing boundaries in music. An amalgamation of music, ideas, and cultures.
Seems like we've really kind of strayed away from that, in some respects.
I'm sure people were into whatever music you are into, Ewan, long before you were into it. Now, granted, proclaiming my love for a certain type of music on a public forum is not not exactly my style of doing things, BUT, why take an opportunity to try and make someone feel like shit for it?
We all "discovered" some music at one point in time or another. Hopefully there weren't a bunch of people around to clown us for liking music they may have liked long before we discovered it.
I guess the internet is still a place for people to be the passive aggressive dicks they've always dreamed of being. Hate on!

I just wanted to thank you Dj Shaggy for posting a link to a free download of your Funky House mix.
So its Progressive Funky House? Nice! I'll be definitely DLing that and listening to it tonight.
I've actually been experimenting with mixing Psy-Trance with Funky House like Giom's hot tracks, and it surprizingly sounds pretty good.
Here's one of my favorite mixes I made on my PC, can you guys tell me what you think of it?
Psy & Funky House - Giom Vs. Earthling - 'I Know You're Jungle Juice' (Dj True Herb's Mash-Up) (http://soundcloud.com/trueherbcrystal/psy-funky-house-giom-vs-earthling-dj-true-herbs-mash-up)
Oh, and I just came back from Where Life Begins in Eugene (which was nothing less than incredible 3 nights), and my favorite Eugene Dj Big Daddy Scamp played an amazing set.
Here's one of his "Super Sets". So many good tracks all in a row. Its like the tracks I posted, but way more bouncey and complex, which I love a lot.
Enjoy Big Daddy's Set:
Big Daddy Scamp - "Bumpin funkiez" (Dj Set) (http://soundcloud.com/big-daddy-scamp/bumpin-funkiez)
Thats some Super FunK!
