$11,000 if you refuse to be body searched, and not only that, but possible arrest! I haven't had any place to fly in ages, but it honestly sucks for anybody who does. It almost makes you feel like the terrorists have won, and now we won't have all the freedoms we took for granted as the years go on. Bah.

Im about to fly back from Florida, airports are a pain in the ass.

My Mom flew over to the IAPA convention for her work and she was pulled from the line then body scanned and patted down. She's in her early 60's and if you have ever seen her its more then obvious she is not a security risk.
They are wasting time and resources on stupid ass shit to be sure.....

well i want one, them shitz iz ill dawg pewp.

anyway, most people complaining about these security measures don't fly anyway.

which is one of my primary complaints.

I worked my fucking ass off last week.
I put in a lot of hours.
I busted my hump refactoring 6 stored procedures for increased web performance.
I developed a major database redesign then I gave a detailed presentation on the functionalities of the new database.

I trained an intern on how to take advantage of Excel's advanced functions, and I grew oversaw a 5% growth in the overall number of records.

I busted my ass this week.
I didn't fly ANYWHERE. you're right.

I worked. no vacations for this workaholic.
no fun flights to Tahiti, no savvy marketing/sales bullshit.

BUT!
you know what I *DID* do?

I made sure that everybody who DID take a flight this weekend ... was exposed to untested levels of radiation by non-medical-professionals, and/or got rubber-gloved-fingers shoved up their asses.

*MY* work this week ... paid for Delta, Alaska, and United's lack of security.

every West Virginian coal worker, who works his ass off and never earns the fun/privilege of air travel .. every teacher .. every burger flipper, every mechanic, every in-home caregiver ..

we all give a bunch of money every week in our taxes, to the TSA, so they can secure a PRIVATE businesses' product, that a very small percentage of Americans get to enjoy.

I'm paying for fingers to go up 15 year old boys' bungholes, and unborn fetuses to get exposed to radiation ... and I don't get to have a say in it, nor do I get to participate in it.

I pay taxes for roads, and I drive on the roads.
I pay taxes for education, and I have a kid who goes to public school.
I pay for welfare, and I enjoy the luxury of not having to deal with whiny broke single moms.

it infuriates me, that we have a gigantic government agency tasked with the job of securing a private businesses' product. particularly when that business caters to such a small section of society, and when we all know that the product has such a low potential for catastrophe.

half a million people die from drunk-driving related accidents every year.
2000 or so people die from airline crashes every year, with 0-100 of them from airline-related terrorist attack.
why don't we have cops frisking every driver every day at rush hour?
that's an infinitely larger threat.

I'll tell you why. because everybody knows that irrational, unreasonable, unjust, and just plain stupid. well Bobby, so is your average TSA employee. so are these new laws and regulations.

we could be spending these billions of dollars much more wisely.

i just dont get it
why

makes no sense
thats like Disney Land offering those faster ride line VIP tickets

derp, approx 40-60% of people will go for that as its "the faster option" and sure it could be a bit faster than a normal line, but why pay more for basicly the same thing?

the radiation bit bothers me, but what can ya do about it
if i plan to fly, FUCK IT...they'll have to strip me and get a gooooood feel.... cause ill make sure they're as uncomfortable about the whole process as I am

course dont be a dick, dont cause flags - just act normal, but whats wrong with asking if they haa-AAAAVE TO oye...*giggle*.... have to go that high or deep?
they prolly love their job as much as id like them to get me in a room and strip me down

i dont really get how your analogy related to the op, but i can explain why people pay to skip lines: because time is valuable. and if you are a very wealthy person, you probably make a lot of money in a given hour of whatever you do. if that amount is more than an hour of waiting in lines all day, why wouldn't you just pay to not spend that time? you can make it up later at work with the time you saved. some people might even say their time is a lot more valuable than their wage and would pay to skip even if they were losing money in the long run.

sorry, that was obtuse

"here, itll help save you time :D"

"...but really, it'll be about the same ordeal; jus sayin."

the lesser of two evils I suppose
get patted down and hold up everyone else OR high dose of radiation and maybe get through quicker
either way you're still gunna have to "wait in line for awhile" no matter how much you pay (or whichever method you choose)

But that's just it. It would be too risky to even release flying cars on the market. Unless you have a tight protocol on how somebody can obtain one, get the proper training on it, and not only that, but be on some watchlist so that if some terrorist did decide to fly his flying car into a 9/11ish bomb (Flying the car right into a government building with a ton of explosives in it), they'd be on to their plan before they ever were a flight risk....I just see it as a luxury we assumed we could copy The Jetsons on, but now will never really be a risk our government can allow.

Not only that, but some morons can't even drive a regular vehicle, so why would you want them to fly in the air and crash into your house/condo/apartment?

Tell that to Terrafugia, they are expected to be delivering orders in 2011.

Most "morons" won't be able to afford one though, and I of course you'll need a pilot's license to legally fly it. The government (in the form of the FAA) has already approved it.

It's NOT a law. It's a TSA procedural change, mandated by the Dept of Homeland Security. The procedural changes are allowed under the US Code, Title 49, Section 44901, which grants the Secretary of the Dept of Transportation authority to regulate all air traffic (including screening & security); the Aviation and Transportation Security Act further grants that right specifically to the TSA, which I believe DHS moved under them after the act was enacted in 2001 after 9/11.

The bold part is EXACTLY what I've been saying about the recent screening changes and groping claims from travelers. I highly doubt the TSA is going to make a procedure that tells agents to grab balls and rub vaginas, so we can likely presume that it's misinterpretation from the agents. I checked the job requirements to be a TSA agent; it's no more than to work @ any retail store and I've met my share of dumbshit retail workers. Food for thought.

riiiiiiiiiiight. K, read this real close. Both of those laws give the TSA authority to screen airports, cargo and passengers AND gives them the authority to do so as they see fit.

The laws passed in 2001 created the TSA and by the previous law on the books, the TSA was granted authority to oversee all aspects of screening. The US Code doesn't need to be altered to say "the TSA can strip search, xray and pat down passengers", it only needs to say that they are RESPONSIBLE for creating procedures, guidelines and standards.

Newsflash, I was 'open palm' searched many MANY times before 2010; in 2001-2004, when I was traveling all the time for DJing, I was searched almost every time I flew. 'Random' they called if, but a thorough frisk nonetheless. It's not anything new.

Agreed. It's VERY difficult to prove something prevented something else (negative result), so we really have no way of knowing if all this paranoid bullshit helps. Frankly, I think it's just a corporate-interest move, which the new administration has to support, because it's really unwise to downplay 'security' "in this post 9/11 world" (fuck, I hate that phrase).

I read somewhere that the scanners are from a company that some top dog in DHS... the more we delve down this path, the more tinfoil I get on my head that Cheney and his brohams were all behind 9/11. The more 'security' we get, the more it seems to be tied to people in the old administration. No me gusta.

so, they wanna confiscate it JUST BEFORE im getting on my trip?

lol

:rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: :rolleyes:

anyways sorry, carry on....

and what has the current administration done to limit the power of the tsa or get rid of the tsa. I mean it's not like he's chomping at the bit to cut back ANY anti-terror prorams like the tsa...

Sec of state Clinton says on "Face the Nation" that she wouldn't want to get patted down herself. then asked "Who would?"

yet nothing is done....

then

Obama says on the topic while he was in Portugal "I understand people's frustration"

yet nothing is done....

one person says
"Driving is much more dangerous than flying, as you are far more likely to be killed in an automobile accident mile-for-mile than you are in an airplane," Steven Horwitz, a professor of economics at St. Lawrence University, told The Hill. "The result will be that the new TSA procedures will kill more Americans on the highway."

which is a little much but....it's kind of true

as much as everyone is in an uproar about the touching....the body scanners or just as bad....but there is a new cure for that..

K, that was a courthouse in FL, NOT A TSA SCANNER.

Did it occur to you that they may have disabled the capability to save images on the scanners in the airport, but that feature was NOT turned off @ the courthouse?

A few years ago, TSA held me up forever because of my record crate.

I got home and realized I had accidentally carried on a knife with a 4" blade in my backpack.

I guess vinyl records seem more threatening than a deadly weapon to TSA agents running x-ray machines.

Who knows... maybe it was on accident, maybe it was a secret intelligence operation the state or county was doing.

The ONLY reason I could see a 'save' or 'print' feature being a benefit would be if you were going to bring a person to trial for 'Violence at international airports'; the image could be used to show the defendant had a weapon. It could be beneficial as a supplemental piece of evidence.
HOWEVER... given this scanning and 'security' hasn't found anything to try someone for that crime, I don't see the need to add these scanners. All the attacks @ airports in recent years were boxes/bombs, NOT weapons and attackers.

When I was traveling a lot DJing, I would get pulled aside from swabbing and extra screening when I brought a bag of vinyl with me on the plane. I either got "Wow, people still use records?" or "Sir, what are these and why do you have them?"

It was baffling.

Next insult:

TSA patdowns and scanners are for the peasants, not for our wonderful lords and masters:
TSA: Some gov't officials to skip airport security (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_airport_security_vips)

Aviation security officials would not name those who can skip the controversial screening, but other officials said those VIPs range from top officials like Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and FBI Director Robert Mueller to congressional leaders like incoming House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, who avoided security before a recent flight from Washington's Reagan National Airport.

I just got back from vacation, and the sanctity of my anus was not violated, nor was I put through the naked xray machine. TSA was actually nicer than usual, I think because they have such bad PR right now. I heard some other dude saying he got frisked and they actually put their hands in his pockets, but I saw none of that on either direction of my flight. Opt out day was total fail too. Nothing happened. People just want to get where they are going, and no one wants to be the dick that helps create a 3 hour backup in the line and makes a bunch of people miss their flights.

Anyone on here actually experience any first hand trouble over this Turkey day travel time? I am not saying it did not happen to other folks, but my experience was surprisingly boring after getting all paranoid that the government wanted to strip search my toddler.

I have been frisked in the past for wearing loose pants and being scruffy lookin', but nothing like that this time. Lines were fast and it seemed like business as usual to me.

hey, remember when Chevron had bad PR for Alaska, and they were actually safe for a few months?

remember during the HCR debates when insurers didn't deny as many claims?

remember when everybody leaned on BP and they started paying off Gulf residents because the spotlight was on them?

yea bud, glad to hear your trip was nice.
ALL trips should be nice.
ALL encounters with federal agents - when you're a respectful, law abiding citizen - should be nice.

if we have to lean on these pricks, make their jobs difficult, make their BOSSES jobs difficult .. well .. thats what being a public servant is all about, right? thats what cops, bureaucrats, feds .. thats what they ARE, right?

my heart just doesn't bleed for these pricks.
they're the ones who signed up for their shitty jobs gettin' hated on.
there's no law requiring them to keep their shitty junk-grabbin, titty-starin careers.

we're the people paying our hard earned tax dollars that directly fund every TSA agents' paycheck, and we're the people spending even more hard earned money buying airline tickets so we can travel freely across our great country.

these people OWE it to us, to be polite, respectful, and WELL-VERSED in every one of their procedures. because EVERY one of their procedures, is DIRECTLY driven, by federal law.

my heart just doesn't bleed for the TSA right about now. whether its Chertoff selling his shoddy x-ray machines to Napolitano, or some dipshit dropout taking a low paying but cushy gubmint handout McJob ... they made their bed, now they're lying in it.

Me thinks you expect to much from these people. They're hourly, highschool educated and rarely have a college education (based on what they pay, it's not worth a college grad's time). Sure, their supervisors and manager should know the regulations inside and out, but these people are on the same level as the Starbucks barista or the McDonalds employee... Sure, but that doesn't negate that the average college grad isn't going to take a $12-$15/hr job with the TSA, unless they're about to lose their home or something. Do you fly often? Take it from me, a majority of the TSA agents I've come across are NOT college grads. Maybe their sups and managers are, but not the people doing the checking.

bgrade

I think a lot of poor college grads would take the 12$-$15 if the job itself did not suck. Being a TSA agent would suck.

B_tech

Being a TSA agent, employed by the govt wouldn't suck, because govt jobs offer nice pensions and such. Now, working as an agent for an approved contractor would probably suck because I doubt they have the perks.

Fair enough, but that would, of course, depend on your desire to work in that industry. If I have a degree in biology, I don't know that I'd be chompin to climb the TSA ladder. But I get your point... it might be pretty easy to get ahead in the org with a degree.
