Absolute proof that money talks and bullshit walks. The money in this case being unlimited oil wealth, large portions of which were undoubtedly funneled into the pockets of the FIFA voters. The bullshit being that a country this small will be fully able to pull off such a large event in twelve years. God forbid the Israelis qualify, it will be the Munich Massacre of 1972 all over again.

The USA has all the necessary stadiums and other infrastructure already in place, as well as the security needed. How will a nation of only 1.7 million and the size of Connecticut possibly pull this off? How are they going to fill the stadiums? What about playing soccer in 120 degree weather? The 2022 World Cup is going to be a disaster and a public relations nightmare for FIFA.

I was actually all for Qwest being used as a World Cup stadium. PGE was likely going to be a training/practice facility as well. The northwest was poised to make a huge splash of the world soccer stage, and the rug got pulled out. I figured it was a US lock, so much for that. There's always 2026....:( I'll be 51.

I saw that too. Sad.

I know the average American doesn't really give a shit, but here in the PNW, we actually kinda dig our Footy. We would have been a shoe in fo SHO if it was here. Granted, 2022 is a long ass way aways, so....eh?

Makes perfect sense.
#1 Qatar is safer than the USA
#2 They would rather hold it in a brand new, shiny stadium
#3 Everybody hates the USA, while Qatar is known to be liked by its neighbors
#4 Ticket prices will be high, so hold it where the money is
#5 They want to keep the event free of politics (while it is going on)

Makes perfect sense.
#1 Qatar is safer than the USA not really...
#2 They would rather hold it in a brand new, shiny stadium....and never use the stadiums again
#3 Everybody hates the USA, while Qatar is known to be liked by its neighbors may be
#4 Ticket prices will be high, so hold it where the money is on ticket prices alone the USA bid was "By far" the most lucritive for FIFA
#5 They want to keep the event free of politics (while it is going on) LOL fifa is more political then the UN

my rebuts in bold...

I wouldn't have put it so strongly, but yeah, pretty much. I'll dial whine-one-one for a whambulance - maybe they can put a splint on your damaged sense of entitlement.

The US is too damn big to hold the world cup. Maybe if we kept it to a region and one or two time zones but the logistics of having it here can't be very appealing compared to a smaller country.

I think a smaller country that provides a more centralized atmosphere for the cup would be better for the experience. You could drive to any stadium in South Africa within a day of any other one basically. I just imagine the magic of world cup being so much better when it isn't spread out across an entire continent.

I went to Qatar in 1999. It fucking sucks. It is hot, like REALLY HOT. The people there hate Americans. The one good thing, they sell alcohol. A lot of mid-east country's do not.

I did have some of the best food of my life there though.

120 degree heat? How are players going to deal with that? I see players dropping like flies from heat stroke.

At least they won't be faking it for once.
