im concerned about privacy, so i wonder...
the browser watches how many tabs you have open (logs it) and then reports to Google so they can tally up and make some financial donation to whatever area the user chooses?
if that plugin watches how many tabs you open, i wonder what else exactly it watches

uhh...pretty sure its an easy algorithm to just count tabs.
kind of like how gmail includes ads that concern topics discussed in your emails. They aren't actually reading your emails, they just have a program that picks out keywords.
pretty sure google has better things to do than watch what websites you visit. (though it does track the clicks you make on websites if you find them via google, its why their search engine is the best)

I've been using this and maxing out daily at 250 tabs. It's a no brainer really.
Google has stated that the max they will donate is 1mil, and I would be surprised if they don't hit that mark within the next week.

ok, maybe I explained that badly, though I did finish the sentence by saying that they do track clicks on websites.
i meant they don't look at individuals or care about what one specific person is looking at, but track large numbers of people.
no one is sitting behind a computer screen thinking, "hmmm...i wonder what websites Nikon is looking at today? lets spend countless hours looking at them" please, programs do that much faster.
but back to the subject at hand, this is for a good cause and google is donating to some pretty worthy charities, I personally am sending all my tabs to doctors without borders. I am with jizosh though, i'll bet they hit their limit in about a week. We'll see.

In all honesty, I think I over-reacted. Google doesn't need you to install a special app to track your websites, considering you are using their browser. Im sure there is nothing in this tab tracker that they don't already have.

I already figured since i use the browser if they wanted to know things about me then they already do (as stated)
i dunno where you thought i was talking about some person sitting there watching my internet traffic cause we all know programs do it better. But thank you for putting words in my mouth :)
just the stats of what sites are being used, followed, clicked on and how often
advertising and marketing obviously
you really got the wrong idea about me from the few times i post a question and i read your responses

perhaps that should tell you something about how you are positing your questions/responses.

most users should be semi-concerned about privacy
so i wonder what else google, chrome, or this new addons watches (pretty legit question)
yet somehow im the paranoid one about someone sitting behind a screen thinking they are watching everything i do online?
no, you jumped to that conclusion about my rational
i just wondered what the plugin could be doing or the browser maybe watching :)
not how badly im being gangstalked

Hey guys,
Not to rain on your parades here, but I think some of you might be a bit misinformed. Google provides means for people to track your behavior on their sites, but that's not really something unique to them–*it's something any site can do, using a cookie to correlate your identity across requests. Btw, that's also how this site stores the fact that you're logged in. Google just provides really nice tools for aggregating this data so that businesses (and others!) can optimize their sites to meet their goals, whatever those may be.
Chrome and Webkit are both open source, and a LOT of programmers use it as their browser of choice. Don't you think if Google were sending data about your browsing habits in an untoward fashion that *someone* would have caught onto it? Btw, if you have enough know-how you can investigate yourself... you're free to use a tool like Wireshark to inspect the packets as they fly across the wire (though you may have to do some proxying acrobatics if you want to inspect the contents of https traffic... but you can still see the endpoints).
TL;DR: Learn you an Internet and take off the goddamn tin hat.

I was just thinking about the monopoly google has. The funny thing is that in many ways, they have earned it.
I think we should just hand over the government to the company. I am somewhat serious about that. They would do better.
I think google is doing better with protecting out first amendment than our government as well, so you have nothing to worry about.
