So this was like 2 days ago, but anyway my phone had broken the day before so I was sitting about thinking "damn how am I going to get a new phone" and my grandmother had came over so I asked her for 70 bucks so I could get a new one. She gave me that my money and I drove over to my cousins house calling people on craigslist asking if they were willing to sell their phone to me. I finally found one who was located in Portland and said she would sell her blackberry curve to me for 70 bucks, I agreed and me and my cousin headed out. An hour later after traffic and such we finally met up at a safeway and I paid her the cash (she looked like she was on meth, hope she doesn't visit this forum) and we drove off. On our way back home my cousin and I discussed the idea of just robbing people on craigslist or how we could have just punched the lady and ran off or better yet I could of just grabbed the phone and he could of drove my car and met me down the block. On the way back to his place we met his brother to get some weed, smoked and then went back to his place. At this time we were all hanging out, me him and his dad, and I decided to download Requiem For A Dream so we could watch it. I turned it on and I realized that I had been a bad son and something similar to Harold, and that I should get a job and shit. Now I feel all guilty and like a failure for not going to a university after my first year of high school :(

If you aren't going to school or helping with the bills and you have graduated from high school. You are a shitty son if you are living with your parents still. I mean unless they were really shitty parents and they owe you.

I wouldn't necessarily interpret anything as being a shitty son/daughter/person - but maybe it's the kick in the pants you need to actually think about what to do with your life, and DO it. Don't be one of the people that talk about living, be the person who is actually alive.

No I do go to school, I just have this issue as where I feel like a failure because I'm not going to a university.

Requiem for a Dream made me feel like I am an absolute angel of a son by comparison. That kid was fucked.
I love the soundtrack to that movie though. Lots of good remixes of it too.

In case you haven't noticed, all those degrees don't mean shit if you're over-qualified for some jobs, with the mountain of student loans you'd have to pay off. Alot of these people who should have the world at their fingertips are just as poor as the ones who didn't end up going to college, so you make the call if you want to get more education or party and drift through life....

^^^^ That is a terrible perspective on higher education. If everyone thought like that we'd have a world full of broken shit that never really worked in the first place. Just about everything you have is because of people who made the extra effort to educate themselves past the required high-school diploma. Stand up and be a man and do something you can be proud. Time and time again you amaze me headphones_dude. You've done far too many drugs.

I guess I'm among the people who is just intrigued by knowledge and not by the money knowledge can bring you. Even if getting higher education doesn't make you bank, at least it gives you the one thing no one can ever take away from you; knowledge!! That's what's up.

Thou will be cast down into the eternal flames of damnation my child.
We are all born into original sin and must work to prove ourselves unto Him.

heres my advice.
get credits at a community college, stack up as many as you can because theyre half the price or less than a university. get a good gpa there because there is a lot more support at them than at universities. work closely with a counselor to make sure you get the maximum benefit. then when you're ready go to a university as a transfer student.
one step at a time, one thing at a time.
college degree is the new high school diploma. the generations ahead of me all wanted to graduate high school so they could go get a good job. only now.. a diploma is worth the paper its printed on and not much else.
