Now Available: Whiskey in a Can
by Eick · January 18th, 2011 · 1 Comment
Well, technically “whisky” since it’s of the Scottish variety. A company named Scottish Spirits has become the first company to package whiskey in a can, not a bottle. The traditional 12 oz can holds 8 shots worth of whiskey, but of course, cannot be re-sealed. The company urges you to share with friends, but you could just, you know, get shit faced.

So, instead of passing out behind the wheel from stimulants and downers in a can, beer drinkers will be shunned of their trunk and backseats full of empty cans to NOW make way for whiskey in a can!
Drink up people and make sure to bring a 6 pack to your next party :)

Twelve ounces of cheap whiskey does not sound like a good time to me. . .

12 cans of PBR doesn't sound like a good idea to me, but somehow always ends up in a good time.

Pretty handy for camping/outdoor parties and such. I have had more than one bottle break during travel, or just being dumb and dropping it. And we've all seen the broken bottles at outdoor parties. I think this totaly has it's place, and is a good thing!

That's what reusable plastic containers are for. Metallic-tasting crap whisky.... I don't know if I could think of a worse place to be in the great outdoors.

I just don't see the problem(cans don't affect anything else I drink out of one, why would this be any different), and I would doubt that most people will take the time and effort to re-vessel their drink. Plus as a clean up benifit, they can be squished flat. Not a recommendation for this whiskey, but I like the idea of caning the hard booze.

You can't taste the difference between beverages in cans and beverages in glass bottles? Really? Are you a smoker, by chance?

I can feel the metal near my mouth and it does have an affect, but it's not the flavor of the beverage that is doing it. Every beverage made(that I can think of), is in contact with a multitude of different metals along the manufacturing process, and I believe most aluminum cans are lined with something.

The fact that you can't close it up is pretty worrisome, especially if you're gonna bring up outdoor parties...
That's just asking for some 21 year old to get alcohol poisoning and a party to get shut down..
Furthermore, you talk about dropping a bottle and having it break.. You can still drop a can and have all the whisky leak out. Who wants to drink out of a can of whisky that's been dropped in the dirt. Effing gross.
If you need your whisky to be portable, invest in a flask... They're like 10 - 15 bucks.. Are reusable, and can be dropped.

I'm just saying it's alot more likely that people would buy the cans rather than bottles, than use flasks.

it probably won't be available in the states will it?
I don't like wiskey anyway so I'll never know how it tastes.

I politely disagree...
Unless you're counting the homeless population....
Most the avid whisky drinkers I know... myself included... will take the 3 minutes to transfer from bottle to flask.

Plus crashing with a bottle in your pocket snowboarding isnt fun unless you enjoy punctured lungs.

snowboarding/skiing...i couldn't drink that much & still ride
i'd still prefer a flask.
hiking, i prefer a beer...and if i'm taking whiskey it's transferred into an empty water bottle for weight mostly.
again, 12oz of whiskey in one night and i'd probably not be capable of hiking the rest of the trip.
and outdoor party, and sharing wtih friends...i could do IF i liked the whiskey. or didn't like the people i was sharing with.
might be a good burning man "well whiskey" in some of the bars.
in short, do it up if it's your thing & you want.
but i'll probably never buy it, unless jameson does it.

You can get high end microbrews in a can (made for camping and fishing and stuff) that is specially lined. I would bet anything you couldnt tell the difference in a taste test. Im thinking these are probably the same. And I think hiking in a "bottle" to a campsite at a fraction the weight is pretty freakin awesome.

confused?
you mean taking a full 750ml of liquor in a lighter container then the glass it usually comes in?
or do you mean to infer the plastic bottle i transfer jameson into is not all that lightweight?
why the quotes around bottle?

and yeah oskar blues makes good hiking/camping/fishing beers. old chub is my fav :)

well, cause when I go on outdoor adventures with my alcoholic friends we usually grab a bottle. Couple of these would replace the bottle, and is therefore not a bottle anymore, but would most likely still be referred to as one well preparing gear for said adventure. Thats why the quotations.
These would be easier to pack out than plastic or a flask as well.

got it, thanks dude.
i'd still disagree with you though, the one downside of packing out the alum cans is you can never get all the liquid out of 'em & it gets gross even in zip lock bag.
and the water bottle I uh, collapse & put the lid back on, still lighter & sealed for less mess.
but i'm jsut splitting hairs at this point.
the beauty of this whole thing is, you can decide to get some or not.
YOU have the power to decide "do i want X or Y" and neither is "wrong" just not preferred by some.
