I didn't realize stuff this awesome actually existed.
I think I would have enjoyed the 90s, were I five-ten years older at the time.

Agreed. House was happy or trippy, dnb had something for everyone and trance & hhc grew into something of epic proportions.
Its funny...I despised trance back then, but now that im older, I listen to these GU cds and wonder what I disliked? Could be how I wasn't sober much back then and didn't like 'pretty' music. Of course, all locals didn't play the solid tunes on the GU cds, so that was probably the root of my disdain.

Damn, Sleeper is some legit 90s brit-pop, they could not have existed at any other time in history.

music in the 90s was indeed great.
but, does anyone else think the movies just flat out sucked for a good stretch of that decade? seemed like for a while everything released was trying to look like a nirvana or NIN video.

With very, very few exceptions, all movies have sucked always. The turd to classic ratio then is probably similar to the turd to classic ratio now.

Now people like to think Britpop was just Blur and Oasis at eachother's throats for the top of the UK indie/rock charts, but if you look beneath the surface, there was ALOT more to it. This was Great Britain kind of not wanting much to do with Seattle's grunge scene taking over the globe, and saying "Why not just write songs that are for US? Tunes we would understand, and if the states aren't listening, then toss em'".....So you had Suede, Blur, Supergrass, and yes, Sleeper! But for some reason Elastica kind of got more attention because Justine Frishmann used to date Brett Anderson and even was briefly in Suede, but then was Damon Albarn's gf at the time, so to me, Elastica got more fame than Sleeper did. (Probably the fact that Elastica was 3/4 women helped a bit as well). Pulp had been around since the 80's, but never quite fit in with any scene in the UK, but Britpop just was the mold they finally fit in, and the fact that everybody knew the words to their biggest hit at Glastonbary for "Common People" sure helped. But it was not going to last for them after Jarvis figured out rather quickly that taking almost 13 years to reach the top means there's only one place to go is down the charts...I listed the first pic from my fav britpop band Mansun, but they were kind of at the tail end of Britpop, and didn't really consider themselves part of the genre, but make no mistake, even if they didn't feel like they were a part of it, I did, because their sound was so ecclectic. (Mix ABC, XTC, Prince, Beatles, Wire, & Magazine in a blender, and you still couldn't guess their influences) They split in 2003 when Stove King their bass player was caught embezzling money from his own bandmates!!! He was fired, but soon after Dominic Chad & Andy Rathbone lost interest as well. I'd love for them to get back together, but I know it's kind of like wishing the Smiths or the Stone Roses would get back together. Won't happen....
Interestingly enough, Blur and Suede have been recording lately after some successful touring (In the UK only of course), and MIGHT release a new album, but Brett insists it must extremely good, and Blur hasn't really said much about a new album to the fans. Pulp also are going to be doing some shows in the UK, but Jarvis hasn't stated if recording is part of the plan. That'd be nice, but we'll have to see....Supergrass have recently split, as have Oasis, but really just morphed into Beady Eye without Noel Gallagher. Andy Bell from Ride, Gem Archer from Heavy Stereo, Liam and Chris Sharrock from The La's are not going to let the fact that Noel wrote most of the material stop them. Will the Oasis fans follow? Or turn away since Noel wrote most the songs. Who knows?. And finally, the band you posted the video Sleeper. Well Louise Werner split the band up in 98, and went on to be a author. I don't know if a Sleeper reunion is on the cards, but I wouldn't rule it out. Justine Frischmann from Elastica is married and living in Arizona and is now a artist. So I doubt Elastica would return...
Just thought you may want to know what's happened to most the bands....:D
Yeah, Sleeper wouldn't have fit in Punk/post punk, weren't quite new wave enough for the 80's, would have been too out of place for the indie/C86 scene, would have to change their sound too much to sound like Madchester (Happy Mondays/Stone Roses/Inspiral Carpets), and definately not shoegazer, so yeah, it was Britpop or nothing for them. But they were there at the right time for all that!!!

Liquid Sky's game was absurdly weak in the 90s.
Speaking of the "90s", I was recently reminded of this one from Photek's recent appearance on Benji B's BBC Show:

that was pretty standard in the 90's, too. you showed up with your vinyl and were limited to what you could physically carry. a lot of people had a lot of the same records... but it did seem especially prevalent within the d&b crowd.

I got to see Sky Cries Mary at Bumpershoot, 6 in the Clip opened for them (A Hip hop group from Seattle I seem to recall), 7 Year Bitch either played before or after SKM, but I got headbutted when I made the mistake of going in the mosh pit, I got a serious migraine, so I never got to see Sonic Youth who were going to play last. But that was a fun night.
