I get really annoyed when certian
companie(s) decide to throw, or try to throw a party on any given day, knowing there is already a party happening that day...

No, Im not talking about small, "intimite" gatherings, Im talking about flying out DJ's to headline these events, in hopes of drawing a large crowd....

AND....on top of it, they dont even have the courtsey to book ANY (not one) established local, (unless its donald, cause he pulls.)


They just have thier friends play the role and hope or think we are too stupid or deaf to hear what sounds like shoes in a drier.....

Yet - They come to OUR parties to promote these bogus events when hey refuse to awknoledge <(sp?), or have any interaction with those of us who have been loyal our scene (promoters, kidz and DJS alike) since day one.

....Unless It's to pass out thier fliers for thier shows on the same day ours...

What makes it worse is when said party tries to draw even more people away by going to an event on a totally different day, taken their competition's flyers off of the cars and replacing them with their own. Now is that respectful business practices?

I can somewhat relate to how you feel. It's really annoying when people promote and don't have the decency to at least talk about their party, or knowlingly promote to competite against another company that is near by.

As you get a stain on your shirt out, get the people who are competing out...or what I mean is at least talk to them. They are the source to go to. Complaining about them here might not do too much, as complaining about a stain on a shirt won't do much either.

i agree with you to an extent.. i wish promoters would work together rather than actively competing. i started the northwest promoters list in the hopes that local promoters would post the dates they were throwing events, communicate with each other, etc.

however, it seems like very few promoters are interested in supporting each other or working together, particularly large-scale ones. i rarely see 'massive' promoters attending other people's events or club nights unless it is to promote one of their own upcoming events. i NEVER see 'massive' promoters attending 'underground' events.

about the established locals thing.. hmm. i agree that it's horrible when promoters book unskilled dj's. however, how many promoters do you know who don't book their friends? for example, i never see masa, dervish,
eddie, michael manahan, lux, bryan lyons, etc. spin at massive events, and they are all certainly established & talented dj's..

it seems like most massive promoters book their friends only.. or book people for the purpose of cross-marketing (i.e. booking another crew's dj so that they will book one of yours or so you can promote at their events or so they will promote for you, etc.)

i don't see massive promoters actively seeking out new music.. going to and checking out sets by local dj's from other crews.. etc..

I realized that it might make the wrong person look bad so I took the common courtesy to delete it. If only they would do the same.

They have been cought before and didn't learn. The result of that lead people to throw free parties during theirs just to take away from their profit. Those who are smart will know where to go on the date of their next party....

cough*PI*cough seems to me i remember a few parties where they have found out where and when the promoter of the party they are going against is promoting and have followed minutes behind them taking the other promoters flyiers and throwing them away... about 20,000 or so i was told, fliers were thrown away minutes within being put out in stacks to promoter... seems to me "the unmentioned promoter" cough*PI*cough has a real complex of losing their ass or just want to make an ass of themselves in the scene

In regards to what Kim said about "massive"promoters not attending smaller parties-I go to all kinds of stuff just for the fun of it. I've seen Taco, Joel, Marcus, Federal, and several other larger scale promoters at some not so large scale events. You are right to some extent, but you have to take into consideration not every small event is fun or worth going to.

As far as DJs go-I book djs that are good. DJs That project more of a sound than an image. Now Because of the promoter role I assumed a couple months back I'm friends with just about every Dj-so yeah most of the DJs I book are my friends but I also think they're wicked DJ as well. Put it this way I've never booked a dj just to get booked-I've got my own parties to play at-know what I'm saying.

The reason why nobody books eddie, micheal manahan and other such "vibey" "underground" djs is because those guys don't make themselves accesible to most rave promoters. They're all perfectly happy hanging out at bryans store spinning non rave type music. Who would you have close after DJ DAN on JUNE 8th DJ FEDERAL who plays pumping progressive electronic funk or Eddie who may spin anything from downtempo to abstract Jungle-Not saying Eddies a bad DJ(he rocks) but in his own sorta "hippy raver" way.

The whole concept of there being two parties on the same night will never ever change. If it's not Pi and Equality it'll be somebody else. For every promoter today theres ten more waiting to book a date at NAf and deal with this drama so...

Equalities shit will blow up-always does-so will jason and antons-like I said before everybodies shit is going to blow up-except for a couple people.

Speaking of your promoter list Kim, when I was trying to hustle my mix cds and asked where I could find the promoter list, I never heard from you or recieved a e-mail back. What if I wanted to throw a party? I can't seem to find this promoter list. Anywayz I still think your awesome Kim, I just can't find the promoter list. Am I on it? Do I even throw parties anymore? Am I a good dj or, like, a kinda good dj? Am I obssesed with DJ FEDERAL and his unique brand of hard, UNICORN, epic, opera trance? Does DJ FEDERAL like me? AM I a DJ FEDERAL STALKER? Once someone from TAZ took flyers from systm6 and throw them a way.and that person
no longer promotes for anyone.lets get our
facts right.and we have stuff to talk about,call me and we'll meet somewhere I
have alot to say to a lot of people,the rest of you haters contact me and we'll meet

Lets talk about some of the parties Pi has done.

We have done some of the largest scale parties at naf and even free parties(BBQs) at naf.

we have had smaller parties at many different
Warehouses and many after hours w/ lots of
underground djs, free parties over there too.

and when people didn't have enough $ I always let them in and Pi is always promoter friendly

and if any of you have came to my parties you
would know this, just ask around.

and the reason I only booked Pi djs is because we have plenty of great djs and people never get to experience their great
talent. I have booked plenty of other local
djs check our flyers and we have only had
Donald (one of my favs) twice I would like to have donald perform at all my parties
but he's a busy man.

the way I plan my parties is around certain international acts and when I get them I do our parties and they WILL NOT be at NAF Don’t get me wrong naf is great but we at Pi our burnt out w/ naf (like many).
We are not trying to throw parties agianst any crew and we had our talent booked and flyer printed by Crescent, plenty of time ahead so other companies wouldn't over budget their shows. I spoke with other promoters who were planning parties for the same day so Overload still wouldn’t have been the only party that night and they were all cool.

and to you Joel who has a grudge against Pi why is New years eve still bothering you. we never promoted that any where but SouthCenter
and SeaTac Mall and nw-tekno so quit whining.

The scene is growing and there will be parties on the same night. people love the music,dancing,energy,and the respect we have for each other so lots of people are getting together and dancing the night away so more people want to throw parties and bring some of the talent they would like see.I don't think we should get your undi's all knotted up over something small like this and if somebody catches someone taking flyers find out who they are and let the scene who the person is (no bullshit Raver Rumor).

I have something to say to Equality productions about how annoying it is when someone else thoughs a party on the same day as yours. Two friends of mine worked REAL hard to get a medium sized party planned, NOT at NAF or FX or any of the other comminly used venues. And the croud he was trying to draw was one of people who apperciate the music. They were woking to have a "good party". They weren't gonna make ANY money on it and they were trying really hard to make it have a PLUR feel to it. And about a month before it was supposed to happen, after ALL the DJ's had been booked, the venue had been secured and the flyers were being made, he heard that Equality may have been planing a party on the same date. So he called them to be nice and talk about it (even though he had been planing his party for a LONG time, had posted on the NWpromoter list, and looked on it for any mention of their party. Which he DID NOT find and had heard NOTHING of this party from anyone who was associated with Equility) and to his shock when he called and VERY nicly asked them if they were planing a partty for the same date, got *SCREAMED* at by who ever from Equility that he talked to. They said such things as "FUCK YOU!! You can't have a party on that date, we are planning one at NAF! And ours has bigger tallent then yours!" To which he replyed "Well...I think we may be trying to draw to different crouds. So there really shouldn't be a problem." At which point they continuted to yell at him and tell him that he had NO idea what he was doing, that he had NO bussiness throughing parties and that his party would fail because theirs was better. Well...this is what I have to say to anyone at Equility; That is bull-shit, just plain WRONG! That is NO WAY to talk to a fellow promoter, and especially someone who is trying to better the scene for the people who like to attend "good" parties, by NOT using NAF, by having a varity of music, and by promoting VIBE. So I want you to think about how you treat other people in the scene, and what you are REALLY promoting *cough*HATE*cough*, which is NOT what the scene should be about. And if you REALLY thought that YOUR party was SO much better then his, why were you so worried about it? Maybe beacuse you were concerned over loosing some of your profit? To a party that had an ENTIRLY different feel. And to anyone who attends Equility Productions parties, I STRONGLY urge YOU to consider if that is how YOU would want to be treated if you were planing a party and were TRYING to work with other promoters. I know I (and at least a FEW others) will NEVER go to one of your events. Because we see what you are really about. I think most people want to attend parties that futher the scene.Parties that are throughen by people who REALLY care if the people that attend have a good time or not. Not promote money making and hate. And now, thanks to who ever had to be such an ass, we lost out on a *RARE* oppertunity to attend one. Thanks guys, way to care about the people. :(
