mob mentality and group psychosis

I've noticed this on the board more than once covering a variety of topics where everything degrades into "the mob mentality". I am wondering if anyone here has tried to step back and look at the bigger picture and try to understand why this is happening?

I just like talking. I try not to bother any one and I don't think I am opionated. I do see what you are talking about. It bothers me but one of the great things about bbs is that any one can express them selfs in a way that they normaly would not do. :)
