I must admit, I was never a HUGE trance fan like most. I always prefer my beats/dj's on the funky side. But here I am, smoking a bowl, and hearing some of the best trance ever! I'm starting to like it I guess. Has anybody else used to hate some style of the scene, but once you heard the right track or saw the right dj, you were quickly converted? Jos wondering......

my first few months of partying, the jungle rooms always made me want to throw up. literally, the scary and evil (at the time i thought this) base and icky (at the time i thought this too) beats made me ill to the stomach.

Yeah, I know what you mean about jungle being hella dark. I used to like that part of the jungle sound. Kinda the very early Goldie track "Terminator". (pretty much started alot of horror movie samples on jungle cuts and dub plates at the time) But soon samples weren't as important, but dark demonic basslines and beats were. I dunno, I'm probably just one of the ravers who boarded the early jungle soul train, and got off at the LTJ Bukem station, (I sorta quit jungle by that era, and didn't keep up with how jungle was evolving until I went to parties and noticed that it had gotten darker)while the sound grew less jazzy and atmospheric, but waaaaaaay more dark and directed.

But that sound I'm willing to wager draws us to that sound. We don't always want happy fluffy trance or funky house beats all the time. Got to have some sort of ballance of the dark stuff too...Strange way to think of the music, but it basicly works I guess......

I used to agree - trance was the shiz-nit.

but lately, most of it sucks! I've been so disappointed with newer trance 'cause it's so damn formulaic...I'd really like someone to tell me the name of recent, innovative trance that won't bore me to death. Otherwise, I'll have to keep listening to my tired trance cd's that are badly in need of a break.

I'll second what Jesi said about that statement, and add that this phenomenom is not a recent one. Most trance has sucked complete ass for quite a long time. Formulaic, boring bullshit. I think it just takes people a little while to understand the formula often... and only then can they realize how much it dictates the music that is being produced these days.

Yeah, check out goa! Goa/psytrance (basically the same thing, depending upon who you talk to), is the only trance that can get me moving.

I remember also, that I never really used to like it all that much. It was okay, and just as good as any trance (and i used to thinkn that all trance was okay)... but then, I went to an outdoor party... and I took some acid... and I understood. Since then most other trance began to bore the hell out of me, but goa/psytrance is still good.

Now, smoking weed to goa/psytrance is okay... but not really the same as smokin' weed to some comlpex, speedy, good fuckin' dnb. A cd I recommend is the most recent moving shadow compilation... 01.1 I thikn it is called. Mixed by timecode. It's pretty sweet. Or you can e-mail me and pester me for one of mine... because I think mine are alright too.

I'm just lucky I wasn't stoned and all the sudden, the c89 dj mixed happy hardcore until I had to go to bed. Then I would have probably liked that!

It may sound like I got converted over a nice phat bowl and some epic trance, but I guess the track made me miss the scene, and all my friends. It made me feel I was right there with you guys bumpin and bouncin...

And as for YOU ebenezer, you obviously have never tried my headphones on. As most board members who have tried them on for size, they can hear the music just fine, but the mid and high frequencies tend to bounce off. But you get WAAAAAAAAY more bass! You think this is something only e-tards or frykids would notice, but sober people notice it too. So I hear just fine, but sometimes when people try to talk to me, I may have to take them off, just so I can hear their voice over the 20,000 watt soundsystem....

by formulaic, you mean cheesy and predictable like alice deejay right? psh. that shit aint real trance its the lowest common denominator of trance meant solely to put out as many tracks as poosible in the shotest amount of time to make the biggest amount of money.

Dude do yourself a real big favor (my humble opinion) and go to F-8 and get a trance (Tape only) by Mystery called "Natural Mystic" it is (In my humble opinion) the best "Creation" I have ever heard in my life. The track selection and the way it comes together is awesome. Both sides!!

I was out in the middle of the prarie in Texas two years ago helping a friend of mine clean Burlington Northern Track laying equipment.
There was nothing in sight for miles but railroad tracks.
This huge storm blew up all of a sudden out of nowhere. It started to rain real hard so I took refuge in the cab of the truck.

i put this tape in as the storm closed in around me, and turned it all the way up!!
There was thunder and lightning and hail and I felt like Dorothy in the wizard of OZ.

As the first half of the tape finished there seemed to be a lull in the storm. I turned the tape over and for the next 40 minutes I had a mind blowing experience (Totally straight i might add) as this tape and the storm wound down.
I was a different person after that day. It totally changed for me what impressed me about music..
