hehehe..just wondering, who taught you to dance did your friends teach you or were you self taught. As for me i learn to dance on my own. I watch a couple of "dance movies" and watch the people on the dance floor to intergrate my own style....now shake that ass

I used to be so afraid to dance when I first started. I thought everyone would make fun of me because I was new to dancing and didn't have a style. Then I started to kind of look at everyone else and learn that they really were not paying any attention to others. Just the music and them selves dancing. And finally the music just hit me and I started dancing. Now I can't stop, everyone has to start somewhere :D
What:learning how to do the "booty shake".
When:7th, 8th and 9th grade. Junior High.
Where:"Teen" dances held in the commons afterschool.
Who taught me:I watched the older kids bumping and grinding on the dancefloor, while the teachers are running around with a ruler yelling "thats too close! You two need to separate!". Fun times.
Ahh...the booty shake...good stuff.

I think that I have always been dancing. more often than not it was in front of the bathroom mirror. It wasnt until an Oracle party that I broke my fear of people watching me dance. I was tossin some liquid while standing on a stump overlooking the crowd, not even paying attention to anyone. For some reason I looked up, and saw hundreds of faces lookin back. Were they fucked up? just lookin at the pretty lights? Or were they just watchin somebody get down? After that I never realy worried about who was watching, and what I looked like. The more comfortable I become with my dancing the better I get, and the better I get, the more complements I recive, the more complements I recieve, the better I dance. Its a good circle I dont want to break. The people that taught me to dance are all un named faces in the crowds of parties. I see sumthin I like, and I steal it. almost all of my moves start out as unorigional, but soon progress into my own origional style. I would have to sat that the bathroom mirror helped me the most. Oh yea and my little bro Aaron for telling me when sumthin looked stupid.

Gracious, how did I learn how to shake this booty? Years and years of practice honey! :D
My worst ever memory of beginning to shake my booty was at a friend's sweet sixteen party about seven years ago. I was on the dance floor snapping my fingers and two stepping, totally out of rythym(sp?)
I just started watching people dance on MTV, and calling out that latina blood in me. :D

For me, certain events unlock a new skill. New Years Eve of 2000, I was at the Art Bar-tossed. It was a Friday so Lord Chillum and the Organic crew were there RIPPING SHIT TO SHREDS. When the clock struck 2000, that is when I gained my incredible dancing skills to Jungle. Those skills have only matured into the skills many will witness in the times to come...

I watched my friend. She is such a dope ass dancer. We'd go to a party and I would stand there and bob my head. She'd start going nuts. She'd look at me and I'd start to move like her but break it off in my own way. Now we dance together like crazy!

um...i think i just kinda taught myself? obviously when you go to clubs or parties you watch how other people dance and sometimes you pick up moves other people do and then turn them into your own by adding your own little flare to it...i'm pretty sure that's how it happened for me. damn i'm so glad i dance! i NEED to right now

it was all about the boOty bUMpin for me too.. in junior high and high school.. going to the bumpin grind clubs. (cmon, how hard is it to have dry sex?? haha) but, honestly... i hated dancing with people in those clubs, always too sweaty and guys always trying to grope ya. so, i liked dancing alone. then took a hip hop class in seattle, for the hell of it in the summer. but, i think the music is what really taught me how to dance. different types of music, teaches you to dance a different way.
when i stopped going to the booty bumpin clubs, i basically stopped the booty bumpin. just listen to the music, itll make your body move... it makes my body move how ever it wants. this beat: shoulders. that beat: hips. basslines: feet. just groove!!

There have been many different people along the way that have influenced my dance style. although when i first started, most of my moves were pretty much from other people, but gradually i branched out into my own thing and currently have a combination of graffiti, poppin, running man, and liquid. i would always wonder why so many people go but dont dance at all? i guess the reason is that they dont know how and are too self-conscious to do it in front of so many people. but seriously, nobody really pays attention to your dancing unless youre flailing your body around like a possesed rag-doll. the only way you can get better is to practice. thats all i can tell you. if you feel you arent getting any better unless someone shows you how to do sommething, youre wrong; you are getting better. if you do it all night long at some party, believe me, by morning you'll have picked up a lot of new stuff. I guess lsd also played a part in getting me started awhile back. i cant stop now, its so damn fun to just rip it up on the floor and get all sweaty n shit. fun times, fun times. peace owt

Different people have insipred me at different times to pursue different styles of dance...
Phil made me want to do liquid... random groovers... then I saw Haridas pop...
I just pick up different things here and there and over time perfect my style. :D

i learned the liquid from some break dancing groupies back in the day....lol...well back one year ago that is

Personally, I was self taught. I watched soul train a lot when I was little and watched others at clubs and developed my own stlye.I just crank up the music in my room and get down. The biggest thing is it's fun...do whachalike. I also taught myself a little break. Having rhythm helps. I was in band forever and grew up on ghetto muzac and dancin. So I started with Ghetto/Funk and progressed into other ganres liket Techno. If others try to do my shit they might dislocate their hipbone, vertabre slip.
"Finger tips, on the hips, as I dip, gotta getta tight grip, don't slip, loose lips sank ships, it's a trip: I love the way she licks her lips, see me jockin, put a little twist in her hips cause I'm watchin..." -2Pac (I get around)

I have no idea where I really learned how to dance. I think it was back in 8th grade when I learned my first real foot work.
Then I owe three years of being on my school's dance team to being able to watch and pick things up quickly.
After that it was purely just allowing the music to literally OWN my body.
and lastly...ALL OF YOU great dancers are my total inspiration.
