Why does my nickname change to “guest” when I enter the chat room?
This means the nickname you entered has already been registered by someone on IRC, and you can not use it.
I have already registered my name with the board, but my password doesn’t work in the chat room, why?
The chat room names and the board names work separately from the board. The chat room is a channel on IRC. You will have to register your nickname again.
How can I register my nickname?
You can register your nickname with NickServ for use in the #nwtekno chat room so no one else can use it. If you don’t use your nickname for over 21 days, the registration will expire. You must provide a password and email address to register your nick. To register your nickname, type the command: /ns register Password E-mail
For example, If I wanted to register the nickname “Tekno” and my email is joe@whatever.com, and I wanted my password to be 1234, I would make sure my nickname was "tekno" then type: /ns register 1234 joe@whatever.com
How can I change my nickname in the chat room?
When you are in the chat room, you can change your nickname by typing the command: /nick NewNickname
For example, if I wanted to change my nickname to “kassel” I would type: /nick kassel
How can I send a Private Message to someone?
You can double click on a name from the list on the right and it will bring up a box that you can use to chat with them.
You can also type the command /msg nick private message here. By doing this, the message will show up in the chat room and can only seen by the person you send it to, and will not bring up a separate box. You will know if someone sends you a private message this way, because their name will have * *’s around it rather then the normal < >
For example, if I wanted to say hi to kassel, I would type the command: /msg kassel hi

You can do actions by typing /me and then what you are doing.

To change the Topic in #nwtekno, type the command: /topic #nwtekno new topic here
For example, if I wanted to change the topic to “Welcome to #nwtekno” I would type: /topic #nwtekno Welcome to #nwtekno
How do I change the colors of my words?
Type control + K and it will bring up a color menu to choose from. It also brings up such options as bold, and underline.
Why are some peoples name blue, and have a red symbol next to it?
That means they are a channel operator in #nwtekno. Generally, you won’t see this unless they are “opped” for a certain reason.
Can I be a channel operator in #nwtekno?
If you are wanted as a channel operator, you will be asked to be one

They are the ones who have the power to ban or kick people from the chat room if someone violates any of the chat room rules.
Why was I kicked/banned - I didn’t violate any of the chat room rules?
