i grab them from some fucked up candy raver who is waving them around in front of my face because they think its the neatest thing since e and pokemon. then i proceed to shove them up their ass. its my signature move.

Yeah, but breaking takes talent. =)
Seriously. You could learn most glowstick stuff in a matter of hours. The best breakers have been at it for years.

I love how everybody hates glowstick-people, but loves people who insist on everybody making a hugh amount of room for them so they can break. And then for about 10 feet out from that is all the people standing there watching like slack jawed morons while some narcissistic little skank thrashes around on the floor like an epileptic on crack.
Leaping on breakbois/girls with steel toed boots and teaching them the true meaning of the word "break" is my signature move.
And if you mean "canada" by "up north", yes, we do have our glowstick fiends - and firedancers. There aren't as many of them though, and both of them make sure that nobody is in the way first. Sometimes it's part of the show.
We also have "NO GLOWSTICK" events, too.

Yeah, but who ever sees the best breakers, unless they're part of the show and allotted their own space to do their thang.
If they have their own space, I'll happliy enjoy the spectacle, but if two or three of them decide to take over the dance floor, it's all I can do not to throw a handful of tacks right where they'll be landing.
Rrrr.

It's best when there's a lot of them...this happens at a lot of larger parties in Atlanta, in the jungle room. A big circle will form, with 10-20+ breakers jumping in and out, showing their shit, and the vibe's usually pretty cool. Circles like that are pretty cool...but then again they're also in large-ish rooms, so it doesn't take much dance space away. And some of the breakers are pretty damn good.

if the room is HUGE and they stay away from the front of the dj area, breakers can do what they want. but it pisses me off when they take up the center space in a small room where ppl are already pushing and shoving to get through. i remember at West Coast Consciousness here in PDX they did that at La Luna and Micheal Plump walked right out in the circle and started to dance, and the rest of the crowd followed.

I'm in total agreement with ya. Not only have I been to raves in the east coast where the breakers aren't hired. But they manage to find an out of the way spot to do it. Not in front of the turntables or speakers. And I still have yet to see it impede on everyone's floorspace. Likewise with anyone who uses a glowstick. And damn if someone hits you with a stick or steps on yer foot, please get pissed, and respond to em. Assert your presence and stop acting like a victim and wanting us to feel bad about our behavior.

I dont have much to compare it to....but the glowstixers I've seen are so flippin awesome. I spent all Friday night at FX watching them. I wanna learn so bad, but I'm SOOO not coordinated enough. To all of your GLOWSTIXERS out there, I commend you, and if you see me at a party, get right up in my face cuz I LOVE IT!!!

Glowstix? I wasn't aware that could be used as a verb, but oh well. I do just about everything with glowsticks, but mainly twirl them on strings. I always look for a dark corner to do it in, less light the better, and plus there is less people around. True, most of the basic moves don't require much talent, but devising more advanced combos and making up new tricks does take some serious time, coordination, and bruises. Of course a lot of the newer twirlers want to show off their sh*t, and jump right out in the middle of the dance floor. I'm quick to tell them to move before they piss off the people who want to dance (like supamisty for instance). Anyway I'm going to go eat.

Do you like long or shorter strings. I'm tryin longer ones cause the circles are more grande to bug out on. I've learned not to "cross the streams" but I need alot more practice. My homie was at the Gorge last weekend fryin' and evidently got the rainman syndrome and learned all kinds of new moves. But I know he's hit people with them and I'm not down with that. Gotz to secure those thangs mayne. NEwayz. Check ya l8r. Probably at Naf since that's the only place with any room for our glowstick Hijinks.

yea i thought it was quite amusing on friday when darcy was spinning jungle the last hour... and some guy comes right up next to the booth and has two glowsticks in each hand, and sticks them right in her rface while she is spinning and is trying to give her a light show ...?!?!?!?!?
she just keeps kinda looking at him with this look like "ok, thats great, im smiling so i wont seem like a bitch but get the hell out of my face!"
and he did it for like... 5 minutes! i would have smacked them out of his hands if i was spinning and they were in my face

It seems that people dont really get in my face, which is good because I like a friendly light show now and then, and the few times I have seen people get in other's ways with strings and things was outdoors at Naf. Hey, yeah I met Kow cause he hit me in the head with a glowstick images/smilies/smile.gif
I can't do a damn thing with them though...cause I am the most uncoordinated person in the world.
You know I have been anti glowstick fer awhile....but some thing funny happened
this weekend....I l8ly have been werkin on breaks and saterday I just up and decided 2
tie 2 on my shoes and I started popin and
throwing some wicked kicks, twists, and arial
shit and my friend who was chillin against the wall said he had never seen anything queite like it ever.....if you do something at a rave.......have it be your own shit...

"You could learn most glowstick stuff in a matter of hours"
Not true. And as for people getting in your face- it's cool if they have skills, but if they just wave the things around all hippie dance style, it pisses me off, ya know? I can do that too...

ok... now... i'm not the greatest fan of glowstix... but I don't mind them as long as you don't put them in my face and swing them around to knock me upside my head.. because i'm going to turn around and take them from you and break them.... (not really though.. i smile all weird like and say its ok.. but hey.. its gonna happen if ya'll don't watch it).
Now as for the bboys/bgirls.. in all the years that i've been partying i've never seen them dance by the dj or by the speakers.. usually cyphers are located in the back of the party or somewhere near a wall... we all are there to dance.. and we all can do it in our own way they just choose to do it differently. It is a skill that takes time to get down. It is not their fault that people swarm to watch them... they want to get down just like you do.

up north as being north of california, california raves have always has glowstixers, one who uses glowstixs as an art form and incorparates dancing with them.
Glowstixing takes time and practice and if u could learn it in hours, whoa teach me please.
I feel that most people on this board have not seen good or skilled glowstixers, even break dancers must stop and watch, it's all about dancing and expression.
glowstixing doesn't mean u wave it to someone's face while they are drugs??
if might help them enjoy their drugs more but by no means glowstixing.
I can't wait to rave/party in the northwest. I just wanted to know if the party scene up there is the same as in CA??
Kim the person behind these board is a fellow member of Iloveraving.com and I respect and like her style.
make things short. Glowstixs are fun, and fun to dance with. Long strings are to dangerous and I dislike them, takes too much room and could hurt someone.
Hope to rave in northwest soon
I am Manny from www.iloveraving.com (http://www.iloveraving.com) thank you for your time. PLUR
WURD....
INCORPARATE THEM W/ DANCING
yuh thats what its about....
DANCING not waving them around
and around and around and ect.

From what I've heard people can't do glow sticks in Cali. It's not that popular in Portland either but I kinda see the scene down there as kinda new, naive, and inoccent. I break out the glow sticks there and people watch, seattle they're like "sorry dude I've seen that before". But I've never been to a party in Cali so I can't say that's just what I've heard. It's hard to say if glowsticks or breaking is easier. I picked up spinning glow sticks in gloves really quick. Now breaking is hard to say, cause I'm not in shape. If I was really strong I'd say breaking could be just as easy. But again I'm not really one to say, I'm just making guesses. What i want to learn is how to pop. I've seen some guys do some wicked shit. ANyone got any tips on how to do that stuff? I've sorta been figureing it out but is there any magic tip that I should know?

Tips for popping....hmmm. Well I don't pop in a pure sense but I'll try and help. I incorporate some popping into my groove, but mostly I just do what the music tells me.
One thing I've found that make all the difference in the world is making sure you're legs are moving. =) Seriously! A lot of people who do liquid and/or popping (liquid, more so) tend to be just "upper body" dancers. They get so caught up in being precise with their hands and arms that the lower half gets no attention.
Doing some sort of a still walk/run in conjunction with what your hands and arms are doing looks pretty sick, IMO.
Other than that, watch and learn, young grasshoppa. Watch and learn. =)
peace to the middle east
