the time is very near that the Special Events Ordinance will be (sadly, most likely) passing within the City of Seattle...
not to be daunted, we here at Dance Defense want to do all we can to make you and the rest of the public aware of how your rights to assemble express your freedoms are in grave danger here in Seattle...
in doing so, we're going to have a FrEe RaLlY!!!
When? - This Saturday, September 29th. From 12:30ish to 6ish PM
Where? - Westlake Center in Downtown Seattle!
How? - by contacting the city and having permits to have a legit and enclosed rally to voice our beliefs and opinions!
Who? - friendly neighborhood activitsts for rights, some DJs, and, most importantly, YOU............
mostly ensured LINEUP!:
1230-120: Elixor & Jimni Cricket [Mew]&[Funshine]/[HHC... 2step & jungle?]
130-210: DJ JAB [F-8]/[Trance]
220-310: Jizosh & DJ Simple [Funshine/UHF]/[Hippie House]
320-400: Binke /[Reggae, jazz, DnB, IDM, goa...]
410-450: [b]Jesiah [Phractalized]/[classic rock, goa, IDM, Shpongle-esque...]
500-540: Muschi /[who knows?!]
[i]all times, DJs, and styles are subject to change without notice
Why?!?! - because the Special Events Ordinance is attacking YOUR rights...
if you're not sure what the Special Events Ordinance will do, then I highly suggest you read and take very seriously the bits of Ralph Warren Jr.'s e-mail below that I've copied down here:
...we will do a rally to kick off a fight against the new "special events"
ordinance and also to continue to show support to all victims of the attacks on Sept 11th. we are still in the first stage of healing and re-orienting ourselves to a new reality... regardless of beliefs about what direction our country should take from here lets come together to support each other and defend our rights of freedom of assembly.
in a nutshell here is my report from the city council committee meeting last week:
they are likely to vote on this at the full council meeting one week from
tomorrow. i think it will pass. it basicly wraps up the worst features of
what we have fought in the Teen Dance Ordinance, and Noise Ordinance into one subtle package that will allow:
-- declaring any event that affects a public street and could require extra police monitoring or staffing to get a special events permit.
-- they set the limit at 50 people and this affects events on private
property as well as public parks.
-- they can require special insurance before giving a permit depending on circumstances but the rules are vague of course.
-- and along these lines they can decide whether or not to grant permits on vague rules about checking on promoter backgrounds, audience profiles, and advertising... yes they even want to affect advertising.
i expect a few minor amendments but most of this will probably pass in about aweek. there are still very effective ways to fight it however.
the big saving grace is that WA ACLU took a very strong stand against it.
What?
RALLY! Westlake Center! this Saturday! All Atertoon! BE THERE OR DON'T COMPLAIN WHEN YOU CAN'T DANCE FREELY ANYMORE!
of course, the ordinance will affect EVERYTHING that is an "event", not just the rave and nightclub communities (though, we are the prime "target")... so feel free to invite your non-party friends, your mom and dad, your brother and sister, and bring the dog just for show!
Hope To See Lots Of New and Familiar Faces!
