On Friday, October 15th, DanceSafe Northwest will be holding a free
"Ecstasy
Health and Safety" workshop at Raverbooks. (full info below) It will
be
given by Emanuel Sferios, the director of DanceSafe in the Bay Area.
This is
a valuable opportunity you don't want to miss, since Emanuel won't be
coming
up to Seattle very often. He is an excellent speaker, and I will
guarantee
you will learn something new. And please don't be intimidated,
thinking it's
going to be preachy or too techinal/ hard to understand. This is
down-to-earth information, valuable for everyone, (even those who think
they
know it all.)
Since it starts at 8pm and will go until roughtly 10pm, you can use
this as a
premeet for whatever you may be going to on Friday. Or if you are
saving
yourself for Final Impact on Saturday, come downtown, have dinner on
Broadway, and then come to the workshop and have dessert (there will be
cookies, tea, and other goodies.)
I expect you see you there! :o) (Emanuel will also be at the
DanceSafe
table at Future Impact. Stop by with your questions...or just come say
hello. :o))
love, Tracy
Friday, October 15th
Respecting Ecstasy, Respecting Yourself:
Health and Safety Issues Pertaining to the Use of Ecstasy
8:00 pm at RaverBooks
1205 East Pike St., in Capital Hill (directions: www.mapquest.com)
FREE, but donations gladly accepted.
Topics to be covered include:
1.Neurotoxicity: Does it happen? Can it be prevented? What is the
current
scientific understanding?
2. Contraindicated medications: What drugs react dangerously with E.
3. Pre-existing health conditions that increase your chances of a
dangerous
reaction.
4. Overheating/dehydrating: Ways to avoid the most common cause of
E-related
death.
3. Mixing other recreational drugs with E: Which ones are dangerous?
Which
are safer?
4. Depression: Can regular use of ecstasy make you depressed? Can it be
prevented?
5. Pre-loading and post-loading: How do these supplements interact with
MDMA?
Are they dangerous or do they help?
6. Fake and adulterated pills: How to identify and avoid them
The workshop will last about two hours; a question and answer session
will
follow. It will be presented by Emanuel Sferios, from San Francisco's
DanceSafe organization. And there will be free cookies and
tea/coffee/juice!!! http://www.harmreduction.net/dancesafe
This is a "harm reduction" workshop, which utilizes a non-abstentionist
approach. While abstention is always the best way to avoid the dangers
associated with any drug, harm reduction acknowledges that this is not
an
option for many people, and offers information on the safer use of
drugs to
people who choose to use them for whatever reason.
