To escape reality for a while? To ease your pain? To feel "good"? To enhance music? Because its cool? Cuz thats what RAVERS do? Because you have nothing else to blow your moms money on? Because you heard sex on E was awesome?

Seriously.

Why do you do drugs? Why do drugs at a rave? Where there is so much going on that might create a bad "trip"?

I personally have had limited experience with drugs. I have smoked some chronic, dabbled in PCP and Opium, but never had an urge to do E or acid. I'm not sure why, its just these drugs dont seem to appeal to me. I often catch shit for not doing them by my "raver" friends, but i see no reason to do them just because it is the stereotypical raver expectation. Curious to see who else is a "sober" party kid.

So in conclusion I'm asking.

I don't do drugs never have and never plan on taking them. For some reason, I've always found myself doing the oppostie of what people do just so I can see the opposite point of view. I've learned so much from doing so.

As for the alcohol part, I may drink a cup of red wine aobut once a year to celebrate a holiday (like Shabbat, Passover or Rosh Hashana.) I hope that doesn't count me out as being sober! I don't even feel buzzed when I drink because I drink so little. Am I still a sober kid?

I do drugs because they are fun. Yes, that's the only reason. F-U-N. Actually, I stick to acid now, but I have pretty much done them all.

To answer your other questions: No, I don't use drugs to escape anything, I'm completely happy with my life, my drug use, and my financial situation. I occasionally party sober, but find I enjoy myself more at parties when I'm tripping. And no, I haven't gotten any money from my mom since I graduated from college.

Certain drugs, when used responsibly, can be a hell of a lot of FUN.

By the way, there is no difference between caffeine and alcohol and acid. They are all drugs with varying effects and side-effects. In the future, new drugs will blur the lines between them even more, and you will have to realize that there are no lines between them to begin with.

I don't think anyone truly knows EXACTLY why he/she does drugs. In the end, it's mainly about what kind of fun a person wants to have and how they wish to have it. For some, getting completely tweaked out of their head going ape shit on the dancefloor is fun. As long as they're not hurting anyone, there is nothing wrong with that. For others, partying sober and reserved is the only kind of fun to be had. Once again, there is nothing wrong with that.
I dunno. I've been through my sober partying days and I've been through my crazy drugged-up partying days. Each one was immensely fun in its own way. And, each one had its drawbacks. In the end tho, neither one was better or worse. All in all it's an experience to be remembered fondly one day. Might as well enjoy it while I can right?

I never felt the need to try drugs. I'm not really shure why. And actually after a while, and I started to the see the effects of certain types of drugs on my friends, I started to dislike drugs.
Some types I think are okay.....but others....they just don't seem werth tha potential damage, and it makes me wonder why people would do them....I guess cause their "fun" and for some people I've talked to they sed that drugs helped them learn more about themselves.

I don't think that many people use drugs to escape. I think most are smart enough to realize that the problems will be there when you come down too.

Obviously I'm no expert tho. ^_^

I'm sober 90% of the time. It is a RARE RARE day when I dose or roll or grill or whatever else... If I go to events I either go dead cold sober or some varied degree of drunkeness...

I do drugs every so often but I don't like them that much. I'd prefer rowing my ass off during a race and crossing the finish line in first... not being able to move, breath or see because I worked so hard... i tried E and found that i was not shy anymore, i had a lot of fun in a situation where i was feeling uncomfortable about my self.this was mainly because i made the mistake of going to a club where fashion seemed to be more important than music.

A year ago, I never thought I would do drugs, or even get drunk. At some point I made the realization that drugs are only different from anything else we put into our bodies by the degree to which we are affected. Everything you consume changes your body chemistry in some way, whether it be to change what metabolic pathways your body uses (sugars v. complex carbohydrates), make you more energetic by manipulating the metabolic pathways (caffiene, ginseng), changing your mood by manipulating the brain's release of chemicals (St. John's Wort, ecstasy), or changing the basic chemical function of the brain (alcohol, LSD). While the possible harm definitely differs, you accept risks with all of them.

While this doesn't change the fact that drugs are dangerous, it has made me more open to look at the benefits of the things our government has deemed illegal.

to answer the direct q's:

Why do you do drugs? Recreation, or to get a different viewpoint on life/the way my body works.

Why do drugs at a rave? The environment is custom-built to glorify the senses that drugs react to so strongly, and because I wouldn't roll at home with my parents.

And I should point out that I have only gone to a party under ANY kind of influence 3 times; I find that the fun of going sober is different, but not better or worse than, going under the influence (of alcohol, E, or natural herbal remedies).

I don't think that drugs are for everyone. I am one who they are for. Some drugs are fun and others are not. Personally i think that mushrooms are EVIL. they fuck with me everytime i take them. yet i'm unexplainably drawn to them. I love the visuals, hate the mind trip.

I've been to around a dozen raves. The only one i didn't roll at was my first. It was a shitty rave and I got shitty E. I enjoy how xtc enhances your sences and thats why raves are a great place for E. Candy, music, "trippy" lights, backrubs!!!! Plus you can always find a nice gal or guy to talk to.

I had never done any drugs, nothhing, I was always the one watchig everyone else getting messed up but at USC4 I tried ecstsey and I liked it it was a cool feeling. Since then everyone that has heard that I did "E" has been trying to get me to do everything elese "smoke some pot, come on trip with me, I got some mushrooms" im sick of hearing that. I will never do any other drugs other than "E" not for any reason other than I dont want to, I wish now that I had never done "E" but I have I have been to over half of the parties I have been to sober and I have a ton of fun sober too but it deffientally is totally different on "E" not really better just different!

USC4 was my first party but I have been out since and have only done "E" one other time out of the other times I went out. The next weekend after USC4 I went to FX on Friday night and then back for the free party on Saturday which was a cool party. Last weekend I went to FX again on Friday and Cipher on Saturday, so I have pretty much been partying ever since. Tonight im going to Fx again and tomarrow its D2K Don't these party's count?

hmmm... drugs and anything do not necesarily go hand in hand.

Some people LIKE to do drugs. Not constantly, not cuz we're depressed, not cuz we need to to meet people, just because. It's like a hobby. I myself prefer psychotropics, as I have found those to be conducive to having 'spiritual' experiences (and they are not necesary to all my spiritual experiences either).

A good author to enlighten anyone on the drug culture is Hunter S. Thompson.

If a person stays with their drug, eventually you find a place where you like, and won't want to go eat an entire blotter sheet, or whatever. Moreover, there is a vibe to the drug. When you buy the ticket, you have to take the ride; knowing this and being able to let go, to trust the drug and your subconcious self, allows the most intense of beautiful experiences.

When a person buys the ticket and panics, tries to get off the ride before it is over, that is when all hell breaks loose. That's the evil side to a trip.

I present to you, it is possible to have a good trip on bad drugs. It is what you do on the drug that matters, not what the drug does to you.

The point is that no one should either do drugs or dismiss doing them wholesale becasue of what anyone else tells you. Follow your heart and trust yourself.

Personally I perfer raves sober. I have gone high and it isn't as fun. I actually was into E and other stuff before raving. I think that doing E responsibly has been a positive thing for me. I learned something about myself each time I took it. But I usually do it at home with people I love and trust. Something about being all high and out of it in public just doesn't appeal to me.

Camping trips are different stories though.

not sure about the mdma discovery but Albert Hoffman is given credit for discovering LSD. I don't recall the exact circumstances behind his discovery but from what I do remember, he was doing some experiments with mold spores and left one of his "moldy" experiments up on a shelf for some time. Upon returning to his experiment some time later, a couple of months I believe, Dr. Hoffman accidently took a big whiff of his concoction and thus took the first lsd trip the world has ever known. i like this string because it actually made me think about a subject i normally dont spend too much time pondering about...<to self> why do i take drugs and moreover, do drugs and raves go hand in hand? for me, i have no moral objections to them if they are taken "responsibly". granted taking drugs in the first place is not the best idea in the world but if you are gonna do them at very least, do yer homework. know where they are comming from and dont be a jerk when you are fucked up (ok enough preeechy talk). For me I guess raves and drugs always have gone hand in hand. I go to parties sober quite often and still have a good time but if the tunes are slammin to begin with, I see nothing wrong with a little extra "boost" to make things that much better. If the music sucks however and you really do need some "incentive" to enjoy yourself, then we have a problem.I try to avoid this situation by selectively choosing the parties that I go to (where i know i will love the music)..And I don't care what anybody says, I personally think techno is total tripper music and sometimes certain drugs make that music sound ten times better. like acid music....holy shit, acid music RULES all by itself, but, when you mix that with a little bit of something else, than personally, that sounds like a huge recipe for fun!! Mix some tweeky 303 basslines with a fat 909 beat (or some really melodic trance lines), throw in some intellibeams and some really nice green lasers, fog, a dirty warehouse floor, and a little bit of Dr. Hoffman's yummy discovery, stir, and ouila, to me, that spells pure genious...just my two cents...
