View Full Version : (pdx) Oct. 14th GEP presents !!!!Love Rally!!!! special guest speaker Donald Glaude
We need to show that we as a community of young people have the intentions to make a bad situation into a learning experience. We will renounce the idea of contniuing the energy of hatred.
We have been warned. It's time for love to prevail.
The Groove Enhancement Project is about "creating change". I think that we need to have a gathering in downtown Portland to raise funds for the families who have lost way more than we can imagine.
I think we as a community need to come together to heal with each other. To begin the needed process of realization. We need to really own the idea that we are the future. What do we want it to be.
I'm not talking about raves anymore. I'm talking about the world. How are we gonna live in it. Even if the doomsday folks are correct and this is the beggining of the end, then let's make it one hell of a send off!!!!
It's time that we, the community of PLUR started showing it to the world. Let's show why we love to hug and why we love to love!!!!
I need everyone. I need to feel that we can make a difference.
I know we can.
Love is the answer. How we represent it is the question.
Melissa
ARE YOU WITH ME!!!!!!!!!!!!
This will be a fundraiser for the Afghan Children's Releif Fund. We will have donation cans all over Pioneer Square so please come prepared with what ever you can spare. Mostly we want this to ba a concsiousness raising event.
Our wonderful line-up of speakers and performers include:
Manoj........playing and speaking
Mattie Mataus........playing and speaking
Sir-Real...........playing and speaking
Miss Jasmine.........opening the ceremony with a prayer
Pauly.............speaking
GEP............closing up with words of wisdom
Donald Glaude............speaking and playing
We are also in search of an anti-hate/discrimination group to speak.
The rally will be from 1pm till 9pm. The Oregon community of promoters are coming together to help bring you the vibenest night you have had in a long, long, time.
This is our moment to really change ourselves and help change the face of the world as we know it. We all come to parties for something much deeper than drugs and even deeper than music. It's the spiritual connection we get. Whether it's in a dirty warehouse, outdoors on the top of a mountain, or an aquatic park, it's still the same. We come to show love unto our fellow human. It's time to shed this love onto the outer society.
This is our chance to really shine. We will be in the middle of Portlands "living room". Many eyes will be on us. We can use this energy to help spread our message. Love and compassion is the only true path to enlightenment. We've all figured it out in small doses. now it's time to help others see as we do. Maybe this will re-awaken our own faith in human kind.
Much love,
Melissa

wow, in alot of ways i am glad this is happening, because it gives our culture the chance to show the "others" the good stuff about us. the only thing they get to hear about us -the underground- is bad. now we get to show them our love.
but, at the same time i think we need stay underground. its the only way to keep this beautiful thing portland has created sacred. in other cities of the world, "raves" have become illegal because they didnt know how to keep it on the down-low. then parents got scared, and laws took over.
i REALLY hope everyone behaves themselves at this event; our community depends on it. BUT, on a positive note, i will be there because i want to support the issue-at-hand, LOVE, ANTI-HATE/TERRORISM, and the GROOVE. plus, it looks like the congregation's best preachers are gonna bee there!

The Groove Enhancement Project focuses energy on being good citizens of our world. This event is not as focused on us as a community of ravers as it is on us as a community of good hearted loving individuals who want to see the world move in it's rightful direction.
We as "ravers" have an unfair advantage over the rest of the world in that we know the power of a simple gesture of love. Ask yourself, have you been moved? Have you felt the power of change that comes from all of this that surrounds us in "our" underground society. It's not a matter of sharing the beauty that we care for so deeply for the sheer fact of exposure , it is sharing this energy for the fact of change. We know by personal experience that magic can be created by wonderful people and it seems to show itself in large doses here in our "rave" world.
My life will never be the same. I have been filled with the desire and the strength to never sit on the sidelines when simple change can take place. I now know and have seen what a smile a hug a conversation with a total stranger can do. It creates a feeling of self worth in those who may not feel any. It brings people together who may never have thought of speaking or touching in the outside world. Why is it that we can walk down the street and pass many many faces and never once make eye contact and smile. I know my spirits are lifted when I do happen upon this simple exchange. I'm not suggesting that we run around the world and hug everyone, however I am suggesting that we take a moment and think. Why? Why is it different here in raverville? Why can some of the hardest mofo's get jiggy with the most pickin and a grinnin country girl. How is that this simple idea can be translated across the world into countries considered to be thrid world and virtually technology-less?
We are the youth of America. Whether in mind body or spirit this is who we are. Change is made by the youth it has been proven through time. This is our time. Whether we represent as ravers or not it is our time to represent. i choose to represent as myself. I am a part of an amzing community that has shaped me into the powerful loving spirit that I am. However I am me and that is who the world will see as I speak from my heart. A simple girl from a small country town who has mad crazy love for this underground culture aswell as the world.
So there is one of the many long obnoxious rantings you'll get from me before this is all through.
Let's get pumped for spreadin the love !!!!!!

I will most definitely be attending this event. I think this is a wonderfull idea to try and let the world see that our culture really does care about everyone else out there too. I hope that this is going to be the begining of something wonderfull and uplifting... not the end as a lot of people think. Hopefully everyone from portland that is on the board will be attending this gathering so that we can show our support in full strength.

My wife, my son, and I will be in attendence. This is a great idea, big thumbs up to the people who decided to step outside the box to organize this.
Besides ofcourse the needed donations. We would like you to bring something down to contribute to the energy. One item is a letter, a few words on paper explaining your feelings about love, compassion or the terrorist attacks. We will pull some from those brought to read parts during the closing ceremony.
If you have any ideas on how to join more people in the idea of peace. Making friendship bracelets, bubble blowing, face painting, etc. Hand out flowers or candles, bring down a drum. Get your friends together and hand out packets of seeds or sticker that say love phrases. Whatever you may feel you can contribute. Or just bring your festive self on down and spread more PLUR than you can handle.
This is about all of us. it's not just about us who are up here making the logistical decisions. You have the means to bring ideas of love. We have the place, it's everyone's time to shine.
Much Love,
Melissa
tears roll down my cheeks as I think of the day we come together as one. i can see the ray of love beaming form every corner of the square.
who dares to challenge this idea?
who cares to donate the energy to share?
i do. you do.
we all need to.
time to share in the energy that makes us whole.
love brings so many things to life and puts death in it's loving place.
how can we sit by and watch love destryoed in behalf of hate?
how can we not reach our hands into the sky and 'pray' for guidance?
to see the light of happiness and compassion.
the spirits are guiding us all.
pulling us tourds the center of something magical.
our wands have been granted it is time to use them.
pixies of the light side we are.
running around shedding our love in the shadows of the night.
it is time for the rays of the sun to come from within and shine unto he world.

Looking forward to candles and good vibes.

That was a little something that I let flow freely from me the other day. I felt the emotion and so I typed it in.
I like what I wrote but I think I will be workin up a bit of something even deeper for this beautiful day.
I now call upon all who stop by this thread if only for a moment to read it, to speak up. We need to hear your voice even if it is just for a "hell yeah!" Momentum is created by the continous sending of good vibes and great energy. I know it sounds cheesey to ask this of you all but I think it's important to the process. This is the first step you can take in getting involved. The next is telling everyone you know.
Love be with us all during this trying time,
Melissa

This is a true display of the PDX Rave community coming together to express ourselves in the best way that we know how......... TOGETHER! We have an opportunity here to open people up and say SEE US! We are those evul raver kids, hear what we have to say about what has gone on, We have a chance to show not only our city, but the entire N/W what the future of this country can be, as long as our ideas and togetherness is not supressed. The city and it's people have to take notice and I would really really like to see the Media turn this into it's typical "Three ring Drug circus" I doubt they can.. And if they do they will clearly be dragging alot of well respected names in your culture through the Mud, (Donald Glaude, Manoj, and more..) Course, they won't care about this.
I am looking forward to this immensly.
Melissa GET AHOLD OF ME ASAP! PLEASE!! I have a request!

this is the chance to show everyone that civil liberties and your rights as someone who loves electronic music are as important as anyone elses!
if you are discouraged because events are unjustly being shut down, take a stand!
if you want to keep our local scene alive and well, come and be a part of it!
it's not just about partying and just having a good ol' time, it's a way of life for a lot of us....
show your support and keep our scene growing
this is what it is all about!!

Well i think what your doing is great!!1 we need to show the public what raves are really about!!! and maybe we can change at least a few peoples point of view on the whole rave scene, and help out the needy. and who knows maybe this will be the start of something good, and maybe it will make the police think about what they are doin before they go and cancell shows and such. i just think this is a really good thing and i will be in attendance with all my friends.
I want you all to know that I appreciate your deep, deep love for our community. However this event is more about us as people not so much about us as ravers.
We have a unique gift that we have been given being apart of this beautiful community. We need to use that gift to show the world that peace, love, and compassion are the only true ways to live.
I want this to be something that reflects our community in a beautiful light. But most of all I want this to be something that unifies us and makes us truly beleive in the power of good.
This is not a rave nor does it even resemble one. This is a community gathering of beautiful souls. I appologize if it seems like I'm trying to shy away from the title of rave, however I really want us all to be on the correct path.
We are ravers by trade but this will have small amounts to do with the representation of our community except for the fact that it is our community that shines so brightly on this day. Our strongest leaders will be out to speak on this day about love, not about how to keep our community alive. Though I obviously beleive that to be a worthy cause, it is not the cause of the day.
I love each and every one of your souls and I hope that my words here have not deterred you from wanting to attend. I just want to make clear the exact intentions of this event. However you are all right in that it is an amazing opportuinity to show who we really are, it's just not the main reason to be out on this day.
Peace and love be with us all,
Melissa

a great big THANK YOU to the groove enhancement project for this event...
standing, dancing, and simply *being* together in the name of LOVE and PEACE couln't come at a more appropriate time.
i am so inspired that events like this occur, especially at a time when is seems everyone in the country is reacting out of fear, pride, and anger. the rationality of love is an amazing way to combat this hatred and incessant violence.
i will most certainly be participating in every way i can during this event. the peaceful light of love is in each of us. let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!
PEACE!!!

I want all your input on this.
I have this great idea for where to send the money. I would like to give the money raised to an Afghan childrens releif fund. I think that right now more than the United Way this is where we could be most effective in funds donation. The world is kinda starting to turn away from these people and they have already suffered enough before this terrorist attack. And their suffering is from the same alleged people who created this terror in the first place.
My only concern is that there are people who may interpret this as going against our own country. I don't really care about those ignorant people but in the same token I don't want to cause any reason for this event to be in harms way.
What do you think?
Melissa

10-09-2001, 09:56 PM
Personally, I think it's an awsome idea... On the news, they've already talked about how both the US and the United Nations are attempting to bring relief to Afgahn civillians still in Afgahnistan and who have already managed to leave the country. I agree with you that those people both children and adults have suffered enough. Granted, there will always be those who would think that is "going against" the US, but fuck those individuals. I don't see why donating the money to the ACRF would put anyone involved in the rally in danger. After all, we're in a war against the terrorists, NOT the innocent people who had nothing to do with it.
You rock for having the guts to do something that may not be ultra popular for the sake of those who can't help themselves.

I think the Afgan Childrens Relief Fund is a great idea. Those who are following the conflict realize that one of our main goal is to insure the people of that region/culture that America and the West is not waging war on the people... just the bad guys.
I think it is a good idea to make our contribution to them because it shows the outside community that we are aware of what is happening in the world around us and are trying to make the greatest impact with our recources.
Werd em up to the GEP and all who show their love and support.
I will see you on Sunday rain or shine.
You know it's gotta be a beautiful day!!!!!
Time to do the "rain, rain go away" dance. Then boogie on down to the "Let the sun shine in" dance!
OHHHHHHHHH it's gotta be sunny!!!!!
or atleast not rainy.

I too think this is a fabulous idea. The group you're looking at looks like a really quality organization with the necessary connections and relationships in the region to get the food, medical supplies, and other goodies to the children who need them (not just chucking them out of a plane from 35,000 feet). I can't wait to see all your happy smiling faces on Sunday.
Peace.
PS Oh yeah, BUMP!
right now the budget for using the square is at a whopping $462.00!!!!
That's a lot of change that I don't have laying around to pull out of my pocket. So everyone please help us support this event. Every penny after the hard costs are paid for is going to the "Help the Afghan Children Fund". If you want info on this group go to htaci.com
They are very dedicated to the cause that they represent. They have been doing this for over 9 years.
Ok so that's the hard to swallow part of this whole thing... the money! But I think we can over come that!

well.. that's just 23 people donating $20. 22 if I can get there before 9PM. I so hope I can duck out of work early. If not can you give me an address on where to send my donation for the rent/cause?
I think that since this is a donation good will event that they really shouldn't charge us for it. I mean.. it's $400 some odd dollars that can seriously make a difference in the lives of those we are trying to help, and yet they are going to take that money for "space rental"? Come on, like it's going to make a difference if we don't do the event.

i invited my mom to go!!! she's been wanting to go to an another event (or event type thing) with me for awhile. i've taken her to the temple before but she doesn't like to stay out late... so, since this starts at 1pm she's gonna be out there shakin' her booty with me. i can't wait!
i agree - the flyers rock ari!!
It's so great that our....oh so curious familys can now come and shake there ass with us. My mother has never seen me dance. She is so excited, mabye alittle too excited.
Jen I must meet your mother since we are getting married. thats kinda standard...right?
Oh my GAWD!! Aris. I saw a mental picture of your flyer when melissa was explaining it at the meeting. That was the image that I saw. minus a few details. FUCKIN' BEAUTIFULL.
I really think we should open or close the rally with the b52's love shack.I was listening to it today. Its perfect. " love baby....thats where it's at."
"huggin....kissin....dancin',....." "everybodys movin'......everybodys groovin" Its a tune that is widley known. Always gets people going. we do have to remember that while we are representing "our community" we also have to get the "outsiders" on our side. so anything we can do to include the people that are no so fond of techno, will do us good in the long run. $$$$$$$$$

This sounds amazing, I can't wait to see everybody gathered together- and in the DAYTIME! Anyway, I'm also interested to hear the dj's speak- it will be good to hear their beats re-translated. See you there. -Blue

In under 1/2 an hour Portlands living room will be transformed into Portlands Loving room! Props to all who were involved with the planning of this wonderful and exciting event... If we send off enough energy, I think we can get the sun to come out and dance with us!
blessed beats -

Got back from Love Rally. Simly amazing. I skipped out of work early to make it. When 9PM came around I just couldn't stop dancing, thankfully I didn't have to. This was such a success and I could feel the love and goove vibes in teh entire square. Coolest thing of the night was when the girl with yellow roses ran up and gave me one and then rubbed her cheeks against mine to get some glitter on her face :)
The first time in months I was able to dance, I missed it so. I just want to say that I love all of you, all those people that I've met, and those I hope to meet, those I may never have the pleasure of meeting, I love you all. (And no, I'm not on anything, I'm quite sober for once and loving it)
