ninja scroll is a good one. also check out curse of the undead yoma (neither are cyborg related, but they're still pretty cool). kinda hard to explain tho
ghost in the shell kicks ass, too, but you've probably already seen it i'm sure :)

Legend of the Overfiend is about a mythical evil race from another dimension trying to take over the world, and one member of another other-dimensional race is the Chojen, who is the only creature capable of stopping the Overfiend. It has lots of violence and very wierd alien/demon sex with humans. It's one fucked-up movie. Not to watch under the influence of psychedelics!

Ughh watching Legend of the Overfiend stoned was hard enough, only the psychologically hardy would ever wanna watch that frying... :)

I've seen a lot of anime, and there are a few cool ones I can suggest

A Wind Name Amnesia - Some time in the near future, a wind passes through earth and wipes out everyone's memory. Interesting premise and interesting story. Has a killer robot, but no cyborgs

Harmageddon - No I didn't mispell that, and I don't know why there's an H at the beginning. An entity from outerspace is coming to destroy earth and psychic warriors begin contacting each other to try and stop it. DIrected by the same dude who directed Akira, an old anime but fun to watch (also has a cyborg)

Genocyber - I didn't particularly like this one, but it has cyborgs and it is the most fucked up anime I've ever seen... with the possible exception of Legend of the Overfiend.

Fatal Fury The Motion Picture - Lots of cool fighting and some really good art (minus a few kwirky scenes). If you like DBZ but want a li'l more story and better art, you'll like this one.

Princess Mononoke - Lots of ppl seen it, but you have to see this movie stoned. Such beautiful colors and character design...

Dagger of Kamui - A classic anime, and one of the first ninja animes I ever saw. The art is a bit dated, but it's worth watching.

Lensman - Very cool anime, one of the first ones I ever saw. Kind of a star wars plot, but the art is really good and the story is fairly engaging.

8Man After - Very very cool cyborg anime. It's the future (again) and there are a bunch of junkie cyborgs running around making life difficult for law enforcement. 8Man's a kick ass cyborg ready to dish out some whoopass in the name of truth and justice.

Darkside Blues - Made by the same guy who made Vampire Hunter D (which I also highly recommend). A very slow anime, but it has wonderful character design and kick ass lighting and colors. Takes place in the future where an evil corporation owns 95% of the globe and a mysterious being known only as "Darkside" escapes his prison to undue the empire with his novel technique of "renewal"

That's all I can think of for now, I'll post more later if I can think of them.

HELLO! If she wants to see something that is cyborg/rpbot related, but with definate adult topics and views that will send her for a mind trip, go with Evangelion! It's funny in the begining, then gets more seriouse, and then sad/suidicdal/mental. The End of Evangelion movie tops it off nicely. It's especially good if your into bible/end of the world related stuff. This show will definetly satisfy your hunger. The movie has lots of blood too.

Perfect Blue is good too if you like psycho/thrillers. Gundam to an exstent, but it's a little childish.

Samurai X is cool, its kind of like Romeo and Juliet, only many more twists, more scandal, more romantic, and a good deal bloodier. Its a 2part, part 1 is about a samurai warrior who kicks ass, part 2 is where he falls in love with an opposing house, and decides to love her and quit being a shogun......only, the shogun's employers aren't too keen on either of them quitting the biz. it has incredible animation, they must have used Bryce or 3DStudio Max for some of the effects...

The Vampire Hunters is intriguing, but no swords or guns, just psionics talking shit and blowing each other up by thinking real hard about it.

if you live in Portland, there's a movie theater on SE 26 & Clinton that shows hot off the press anime about once a month. anime on the big screen rocks.

thanks for all the suggestions guys, keep em coming :)

btw, im not huge on guns/violence/blood type stuff.. and thats not really what im looking for. i know most of the cyborg stuff would be synonymous with that, and i like serious topics, but i also like light hearted things as well. shit, im addicted to pokemon if that says anything...heh.

i wonder if i can rent these from video rental places...

These are by far the best anime series I have ever seen.

They are kinda hard to find sometimes, I heard a rumor that they're illegal in the states.................but that could be and probably is bullshit.

Very graphic and interesting.

Huge penises taking over the city, teachers raping their students, cartoon sex...............fun stuff like that.

Robot Carnival is one of my favs. It's a collection of short robot films. They're way cool. Appleseed is great too. Not really any cyborgs, but they're both still cool, and pretty intelligent too. Ghost in the Shell is probably the coolest cyborg movie ever (imho), but I'm sure you're already seen it a million times. It looks especially good on DVD cuz the animation is so sharp and detailed.

Peace.

Kodomo no Omocha [sp?] is a great Japanese comedy series. I don't think it's officially been released on DVD or video, but there's subtitled episodes going around online. It's a silly anime about a preteen, tomboy drama queen dealing with school and her real life being wackier than her soap opera acting career. For some reason she has a pimp, who is kinda like her agent, and her mom also has a squirrel living in her hair!

Here's a couple of cool anime you can find at the Hollywood Video (or is it a Blockbuster?) near WWU in Bellingham

Twilight of the Dark Master (short but interesting)
Dagger of Kamui
Golgo13: Operation Honey Bee

also if you ever happen to be on Morpheus, you might want to do a search for Cowboy Bebop, it's pretty easy to find and it's a fairly good anime.

One other thing, I know WWU has an anime club where I think you can actually check out anime or something. I'm not for sure because I never actually got around to joining it, but it'd be worth looking into.

Ninja Scroll, Perfect Blue, and the two by the Ghost in the Shell people (I can't think of the name of the other one--something dark? blue? moon? I dunno . . .) are excellent.

Armitage III is about a cyborg chick and pretty good to boot.

I liked Twilight of the Cockroaches.

Plastic Little is silly but fun and pretty decent.

Kim,

Waaaay before I got into raving, I used to belong to a anime club up in Bremerton. This club has long since dis-banded, but I got exsposed to alot of good anime there, even though we had to put up with alot of dragon ball once in awhile....(I don't care what anybody says, Dragon ball is for 7 years olds)

From what it sounds like you're looking for, you want sci-fi with PLOT, and drama with Emotion...So what I came up with were these oldies but goodies. Keep in mind, past Evangelion, I wouldn't have a clue what's good and what isn't. Alot of these might only be in video stores, or even out of print. Don't worry, I have copies if you're interested...

Kigamure Orange Road...It's about this japanese guy who just happens to be psychic(well, his whole family actually) and his attraction to 2 girls in high school. He does NOT WANT them to find out he has his powers, but it's never easy. The oav episodes were more funny than anything, one episode he gets his personality switched with the family cat, and he just happens to snuggle up with one of the girls he likes, but meanwhile, his REAL body is doing wacky stuff, because the cat just doesn't know what to do with a human body....There's also a movie, but it's more sad than anything. They all sorta graduate high school, and finally he has to make a choice which girl he likes the most. He had no clue one girl already liked him already, but she's too pushy, and he sorta does what he has to do, to be with the girl he really wanted....For some reason, the whole movie doesn't deal with his powers, but oh well, it's sorta a tear jerker....

Ranma 1/2 Well, you probably know this one already, but if I have any memories to refresh, listen up. This guy called Ranma and his dad decide to swim to China, and then hike all around until they find these ancient but cursed pools. They then decide to start doing martial arts there, but the chinese guide freaks out and warns them not to fall into the pools, or they are so royally screwed..They can't even hear him, and then splash splash. Both fall in. Ranma gets transformed into a girl, and his dad gets transformed into a giant Panda. Well his dad had another buddy who wants them to go back to Japan so he can marry one his 3 lovely daughters, just like they had promised eachother back in the day that they'd do...(You know how they like to arrange marriages in asia...) Well, let's just say some wacky shit happens when the daughter he's chosen to marry finds out he's not only a girl, but a guy too. But wait! Then he meets another guy who fell into the pool, who always gets lost, and a chinese girl who wants to kill her, marry him(remember, he's both sexes), well, you get the idea...There's a buttload of tv episodes, a buttload of oav episodes, and 2 movies, but I haven't seen them all...

Urusei Yatsura...Okay, from the same creator, we have another winner...There's this guy who is the biggest pervert in Japan, maybe the world. He is obsessed by chasing women, getting phone numbers, getting his face slapped, but he just never gives up. Well one day, he finds out from the government that he's been chosen to help save the world from the aliens who want to invade. To be fair, they'll stop their invasion if he agrees to play a simple game of tag. He has 10 days to win, and if he loses, earth is theirs. Well, he's up for it, so he meets his opponent who he has to tag. A beautiful alien girl by the name of Lum. What he didn't know was that she can fly! Well he chases her all over Tokyo for 9 straight days, but he just can not capture her. Before the last day, he laments his problem to his girlfriend Shinobu, and she promises that if he can beat Lum, she'd marry him....This makes him determined more than ever to beat Lum at this game, and save the earth. Well being the perv he is, he just decides to use this little grabber thing to rip off her bra(I forgot to mention, she mostly only wears a tiger stripped bikini), and being embarassed by being topless, Lum starts chasing him! Which makes it easy as pie to tag her. He wins, earth is saved, but being a real idiot, he yells out in victory "NOW I CAN FINALLY BE MARRIED!!!!!". Lum just says "Hmm, Ok, I'll marry you.....", and all a sudden the whole japanese media is asking "Ataru, is it true you wish to marry this alien girl??", and he realizes he just made a grave mistake, but it's too late now....
Okay, that was just the first episode. The show lasted about 5-10 years(I think), there were alot of episodes where he meets more aliens(and some just happen to be babes), the richest teenager in Japan(who happens to hate him, but love Lum), one of alien friends who'se kiss could make a young man old(she kissed a vampire by mistake once, it was hella funny), a chinese god of luck(who has no luck when it comes to firing guns), Lum's little cousin Jariten (this little flying kid who breathes fire), Lum's ex-fiance (who is the most gorgeous guy in the galaxy, but just happens to be dumber than a box of rocks, and loves to eat beef bowl), and this really demented buhdist priest Cherry....
Probably the best way to get introduced to this show, is watch a few tv episodes, then some oav's, then the movies...You'll basicly figure who is who and what the connections are....It's a laugh riot, but has it's good drama moments when it comes to the movies.

A.D. Police/Bubble Gum crisis.... In the not too distant future, a Japanese megacorportation develops synthetic robotic humans called Boomers. Boomers are soon used to do most high labor jobs, fight wars, even have sex with humans, but what's unknown is the huge megacorp who is building them is planning world domination. Boomer crimes are so rampant in the near future the AD Police are powerless to stop their rampages...Except for a rogue superteam of superbabes the Knight Sabers...4 women in powered armor who are more than a match for the evil boomers who go unchecked, but can they stop the corporation who produces these Boomers? I mention 2 shows here. A good introduction to the series is the beginning, AD Police. The Knight Sabers aren't in these, but a key character is, a cop by the named of Leon sumthing(forgot his last name). In the first episode he kills a sex boomer that was out to kill him. By killing his first boomer, he gets promoted into the AD Police. His Lutenniant is a woman and she basicly helps him uncover Boomer crimes.
By the time you finish the last episode of AD Police, a huge earthquake decimates Neo-Tokyo in half, and Boomers are made into mass production to re-build Tokyo. But as a price, Genom starts to build their huge towering pyramid structure, and then eventually, the Knight Sabers surface....You don't HAVE to watch AD Police to get a sense for that, but it's a pretty good introduction...There's also a brand new Bubble Gum out, but I haven't seen them...

CyberCity 808 This is one of my favorites...In the year 2808 all industry is automated. For reasons never explained, a mass exodus of humans just decide to leave the high tech cities they once lived in, except for enough people left to keep it running. But there aren't enough cops to keep crime in check...In a space orbital prision, 3 criminals are offered a choice. Stay in space and rot to death slowly, or join the Cyber Police. "Why bother? Either way we're screwed..." "Not so, (says the police chief who is recruiting them), for every type-A criminal you capture and arrest, a certain amount of years will be reducted from your sentance. Eventually you could earn your release. It just depends on how efficient you are....Are you willing to join?" 2 already decide to join, but the other one didn't say anything yet...One last time the police chief asks will he join..."Sure, go ahead, have a laugh..."(he reaches for his new high tech sai weapon, and the theme song begins....) However, in joining, there is a catch. Each of them must wear a high tech collar, and they all have detonating devices. They only get a certain amount of time to catch their criminals, and if they don't(or worse, try to find some way to take it off and be free) BOOM....Each episode in the 3 part Oav deals with each criminal the character must destroy or capture, but it's from the same anime studio who did Ninja Scroll, so the quality is there.....

I'm pooped, if you want to borrow some tapes, I'd let ya Kim...IM me...

you definitely need to check out Urotsukidoji.

and word to sonic for being johnny on the spot with that!

Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend is just incredible. no other words for it.

you probably wanna get Urotsukidoji: Perfect Collection which has the five OVA's for the Legend of the Overfiend. i think this is the one that has the subs too, as the voice acting for the dubbed one isnt that great.

Ninja resurrection:Revenge of Jubei-Sequel too Nnija Scroll doesn't really have much relation wit Ninja Scroll the Original though. The plot of the first video tape revolves around Christianity in olden day Japan, the japanese were trying too expel christianity from Japan,as the leaderof a christian rebellion is a puppet in his advisors atlernate plan,a man by the name of Jubei Yagyu was sent too help crush the christian rebellion in doing so he might've helped the advisores evil plan.I enjoyed the movie because of its fighting sequences, really gory.I highly do not recommend the second part of the series Ninja resurrection:hells spawn

X:This movie is a pyschological, action trip. Its hard too explain the movie because after seeing it two times I still don't get all of it.Great movie,I give it two thumbs up

Sakura Wars:about a group of opera performers that can kick ass in robots

Poltegeist report:If you like Dragonballz style fighting then this is a good movie.

anyone going too this years Sakura con???

Some of my personal farvorites which are seriously worth seeing are Di Gi Charat, Inu Yasha, and also I'dhighly suggest DNA2 their all pretty damn good.

Most you have to find on line or Fan Subbed though but fan subs are cheap and are usually pretty good quality depeneding on whoy ou go through I suggest though usually cause its easier then going through places like suncoast, some other really good ones I could suggest too
I gotta agree on Kodocha, thats a pretty funny one, though I've only seen to ep 20, and also Angelic Layer, its by clamp but its way different from their normal style of anime alot of its done with computers and air brush from what I can tell and its a pretty well done one as well.

If you like mecha, watch ROUJIN Z!!!! I don't even like mecha and I think it's awesome. Also, Record of Lodoss Wars is cool if you like sort of fantasy/medieval type stuff.
And for fun, there's always Oh! My Goddess. It's about a guy who dials a wrong 800 number and accidentally gets the goddess hotline and so this goddess Belldandy comes down to watch over him and they fall in love, but soon enough her two sisters come down and make a huge mess of things and funny times ensue. Whee.

I forgot to mention some stuff about each series

Di Gi Charat:The Great Digital Actress is pretty messed up each eps pretty quick to download, cause most eps are like 3 minutes or so long discluding the summer and winter specials those area bout 10 minutes to half an hour, their pretty funny though, mostly just non sensical stuff, and really chaotic plot.

Inu Yasha: Its arts done by the same guy that did Ranma, or lady I forget her name anyways its about a half demon, and some girl that ends up in his time which is full of demons and what not and their out to collect some parts of this magic stone, which is pretty kool since a demon named Naraku went through so much work just to defile it and turn it into something for demons. Character design is well done and its a nice one like Monoke Hime, style type anime thing jah. O_o

Angelic Layer I've only seen like the first two eps, but so far its about a little girl that sees this kool little fighting thing, and she finds out people make angels which are these nifty little dolls they fight with.. its really just one of those you gotta see more of to understand. O-o I'm still getting it but I like it over all.

DNA2: its about a guy who is a total freakin loser, who when ever hes around girls vomits and completely looses it, well this one girl goes back in time to stop him cause one day hes supposed to become the Mega Play boy which means he'll have a hundered children with a hundered girls, and then his kids will do the exsact same things with his DNA and so on and so on, and the world becomes over populated, its pretty cool only about 15 eps but hey not bad.

Ayashi No Ceres:(I forgot to mention this one) This ones kinda for girls but its pretty kool and screwed up, its about this girl who finds out her family is decendents of a human and a angel type thing, and it turns out shes had it awakened in her, its kool for consperiecies, a lot of people die in it, all pretty violently, I've seen all this one but the last ep, theres about 25 eps to this one its a pretty nifty one. But those are my main suggestions I'm pretty sure the rest were covered some where else. ^_^ anyways hope that helps

If your at all interested in reading comic books, I STONGLY suggest CLOVER by CLAMP *the ppl who did Card Captor Sakura, Magic Knights and Ayashi no Ceres* It is a tottal mix or organic and inorganic, robot/magic series that was never, and most likely will never be made into a series sence it is kind of short. However it did have a music video done for it. Anyway, the series is kinda sad and doesn't really have a happy ending, and the comics work backwards, the first and second being the end of the story and then the third and fourth working backwards. Its very good with incredible art. You can get the comics at Kinokuniya in Seattle.

http://bishounen.org/clover/index.html
*A REALLY good website for clover*

And if anyone loves angels as much as I do, check out Tenshi Kinryoku! *Angel Sanctuary* Its a tottal appocolyptic, choose good or evil, taboo kind of story with great art and an even better story!

X *by CLAMP as well* Has a similar story as Angel Sanctuary, where it is not a childs story, deals with more intence and imperative issues and has a more adult and complicated story where the authors don't really follow the myth that *everything has a happy ending*.

Are there any fans of Chojin Locke here?

Hey, what was that site for downloading anime? I've got cable too :)

Hmmm. I wil recommend some anime that hasn't been mentioned yet.

Escaflowne- One of my favorites. About a girl who has a pendant and is transfered into a different world beacause of it. Its a really long story, can't really describe it. But it's really good.

Rurouni Kenshin OVA 1-4 about an orphaned boy who is trained to be an assasin. Really good, but really bloody.

Trigun- Really funny. Its about chasing a man with a huge bounty over his head.

Theres also a new Vampire Hunter D that came out. It hasnt come here to WA yet, well not that Ive heard. But my friend in cali said that it was really good.

Haha I love anime!!!!!

Grave of the Fireflies: An anime about the war in Japan in WW1 or was it WW2?? It's a great movie, but it make me cry...
Princess Mononoke
Rurouni Kenshin
Jin Roh: This is by the same guy that created Akira. (For some reason his name illudes me.) It's about this higher class of soldier and it's coo, yo.
Dragonball Z: a hardcore fan of DBZ
Blue Submarine No 6
Gundam Wing ;)

were you asking about movies or tv series? the only really really good movies i was able to think of about cyborgs were Armitage III and Ghost in the Shell. there's way more stuff with mecha and stuff than there is with actual cyborgs, are you interested in that too?

sorry if i'm repeating, but i'm at work and didn't want to sit through reading 4 pages of posts, so as far as anime goes, Try JoJo's Bizzare Adventure, awesome series, basically there are a few people with certain powers within them called stands and they use them to fight very cool fight scenes, art, story line.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is good, story line gets odd every now and then, but still a good one.
Flame of Recca is a goofy, but good anime. Very light hearted.
The Robotech Series all 3 of them ROCK is all i can say. The third series is my favorite.
Cowboy Bebop is very good too.
There's more, but out of time atm to finish my post i'll come back and add some more later.

Perfect Blue - Pop singer turned actress is stalked. People she knows start to turn up dead. Two thumbs up for suspense!

Blood: The Last Vampire - I found it rather short, but it was very good nontheless. It's basically like an animated version of Blade... good vampire chick against big ugly vampire monsters. It's very graphic. Heads, arms and ass being ripped off... sent flying all over the place... tehehe. And the main character kinda looks like a fellow board member... haha.

Grave of the Fireflies - If you feel like crying, see this. I've watched it like 4 times, and every single time I sob like a big baby. It's about a little boy and his 4 year old sister who loose their parents to the war. They aren't really wanted by the only relatives they have, and so they set out on there own to live in a little bomb shelter. *sniffle* So so tragic and depressing.....

i completely forgot about grave of the fire flies, i havent seen that forever!( curt contimplates renting it this very moment)

you have to see Cowboy Bebop, easily one of the greatest anime series ever created, i purchased the box set of the entire series over christmas and have watched it all the way through like four times already... to give you a run down...

THE YEAR 2071 AD. That future is now. Driven terrestrial eden, humanity choses the stars as the final frontier. With the section by section colapse of the former nations a mixed jumble of peope and and races became. They spread to the stars, taking with them the now confused concepts of freedom, violence, illegality and love, where new rules and a new generation of outlaws came into being.....

This series contains some of the greatest character development you will see in any anime, for gods sake see it

Other than that the few must see's i can think of off the top of my head are...

Evangelion - I know its been mentioned already but you realy do need to see this one, though i prefer the manga myself.

Macross Plus - Top Gun meets 2001: A Space Odessy, but better than either one by it self

Green Legend Ran - Its the first anime i ever saw, and its still one of my favorites. In the future an alien race has come to earth and sucked almost all of the water of the surface of the planet and since they control the water, they control the earth. And in classic anime fashion its about humanities struggle against these aliens through the eyes of an angst filled teenager

thats all i got for now...

if anyone hasnt stressed it enough to you yet, then ill say it again: GET GHOST IN THE SHELL!!! its the BEST mindfuck-serious plot-mad cyborg action anime movie you can find. the animation is very good, the plot is incredible, i just dont know what to say...

ive seen a lot of anime movies but my memory is shit so i dont remember the titles of very many. :( i sorry. ill tell you about the ones that i remember the titles to though.

i like the dirty pair animes, theyre funny and have good plots too.

kimera is a short one about a vampire chick. its ok, i like the animation but the plot is only so-so.

perfect blue is good, youll be saying "what the fuck" by the end.

angel cop sucks, its like watching boring crime drama except in shitty animation form with really horrible voices assigned to most of the characters.

i LOOOOOVE <3333 tenchi muyo. love it. its so funny! theres episodes and a movie. i suggest watching the episodes first.

dragonball? thumbs down!

sailor moon? thumbs up! but good luck finding every episode + movies...

there is this one called the outlanders or some shit...cant remember...but its a horrible movie, absolute SHIT. its about a goat-woman warrior with pink hair and the plot is absolutely ridiculous and retarded. the whole movie revolves around some big dog-man that her cat-sister fucks and how goat-girl wants to lose her virginity to the geeky photographer she captured from earth. STUPID.

fist of the north star is melodramatic ("i am the fist!" "no, i am the fist!" "no, i will be the fist!" "no, its his right to be the fist!" "you must be the fist!" "i shall fight you to know who is the fist!" bullshit) and retarded, not to mention totally boring and crappy animation. the plot had potential...but damn...horrible execution.

akira never floated my boat. ill leave it at taht.

damn, there are so many awesome animes that i would love to suggest to you but i just cant remember the titles. ill get back to you if i figure it out....

although kim said she didn't need any suggestions this thread is great for finding out information myself, I'm sure others are finding it useful as well. And quite honestly, its not every day you find an informative thread on this board.

So I didn't see it listed anywhere... so I"mgoingto add my contribution.

I suggest that everyone see Shadow Skill if you're into the more violent type of anime movies. Beautiful artistry, a decent story line, and LOTS OF VIOLENCE (: which is my type of anime (: woot woot

and yeah... I have to agree with aileen... X is one of the best anime's I've seen.

hmmmm, i';ve yet to see X.... i've read the manga and its pretty good, i should check that out.

i'm just wondering if anybody else reads manga on a regular basis as well, or am i the only ultr-super-nerd who posts around here...

Cowboy Bebop sux. Ranma 1/2 sux.
If you want to see good anime go to Japan. Thier "Before school cartoons" will totally warp yer mind. Everything imported to the U.S. and dubbed in English is way to tame.
