my battle with bess

bess is the cute dog that acts as a mascot for a proxy that my school uses to access the internet. Bess isn't as cute as the picture makes the dog to be in fact give yourself a minute on the internet and you won't think Bess is a dog at all, more like one of satans hell spawn. although i'm sure that i won't be able to get rid of the dog's controlled grasp on my internet i'm hoping that I can find some way to access a chat client. nothing big maybe just irc, or aim......any ideas?

bess is the most horrible thing ever! its used so kids in school wont like gawk over porn and shit during class. its rather annoying when you have to sit threw a long period and cant check your e-mail in class because the stupid bess dog pops up and says "im sorry, we are unable to access this site"

actually mmmcrack this post follows the guidelines fine, i'm asking a question that is completely off-topic i'm just attempting to be creative in the way I present the question (ie: my battle with bess)

angelstar_68 - bess is the mascot for a company called N2H2 which is what my school uses for a proxy. Its excessively general in alot of the content it blocks, alot of people are unable research the net because of certain words the page contains that bess doesn't like. I'd envision bess as being the internet version of a communist dictatorship.....damn communists =)

in high school we had bess too, i can help you.

for the web use a proxy, alot of the popular ones are blocked by bess. but this one used to work for me, dunno if it still will. If not try searching for proxy's in a search engine. (alot o them will be blocked) but search hard enough and you will find one that works. and some of them even filter out ads.

so for broswing the web use this.

As far as irc goes, i was able to install and use mirc just fine. But if you cant do that, You might be able to use Java based irc clients (though im not sure). Next time your there at school try nwtekno's java irc. if not, there are more complicated ways of getting on irc.

prolly nbhs jenny. i can proudly say i was the first person @ my hs to figure out how to get around the damn thing. after figuring out wtf bess was i was like 'uhh. why dont we just use 303.org's anon proxy?' i dunno if 303 is still around but their proxy worked fine to get around bess until ESD configured the routers to not allow the use of proxys unless they were on a certain port and ended with k12.or.us :( if thats the case with you just root some *.k12.or.us box and set one up yourself. this was for educational purposes only tho!

Anton - Thanks, all the computers here are running win2kpro so the school severely restricted what i can play around with. Fortunately i do have a class with more access on the computer that I can play around with. It's become more of an "educational" game for me to beat bess, heh...i'm a nerd!
