My older sister was diagnosed with ADD when she was 13. As she got older, she got sick of weak, legal methamphetamines like Ritalin and decided that crank was a good alternative. For about two years my house was cleaner than a hospital. Than she got knocked up by a fellow tweeker and quit.

My little brother has ADHD. He takes Adderall for it. Adderall is cool when used in moderation. But I don't like stealing my brother's medication so I can get my kicks, so I rarely do it.

I get sick of having friends blame things on their "ADD" diagnosed by one doctor. Claiming they are having an ADD day when they just didn't feel like paying attention... there is a difference between not wanting to be attentive and not being physically and mentally able to. Jeezis.

ADD does not exist.

I have to disagree with ya, junglesolja.
I was with a guy for almost 2 years who had been diagnosed with ADD. Additionally, his father had been diagnosed with ADD and his little brother with ADHD (that's a *lot* of ritalin for one family!).
my ex hated to take his drugs (not that i blame him), but unfortunately when he was off them, he would just zone out in front of a videogame, forget if he had plans/responsibilities, and become very difficult to converse with.
his little brother was even worse. he was put on ritalin as early as 6  and had become pretty reliant on it. the parents basically just let the TV raise him; i can barely remember a time when he wasn't glued to the damn thing. when he didn't take his ritalin, he became insanely hyperactive and just downright freaky.
i know that ADD/ADHD are real from what i've experienced, altho i think ritalin is diagnosed far too generously, and most of the people who take it end up feeling even worse (my ex said it made him feel like he wasn't himself, and so most of the time he'd flush the pills). I think that often when a parent notices something wrong with their kid, they take the easy route and blame a disease instead of examining themselves/their parenting skills. ritalin appears to be a quick fix, but i suspect that 90% of the time there are better options.

I have one brother diagnosed with ADD, and another with ADHD, and both of them are completely fine, although my bro diagnosed with ADD is as dumb as an ox.Maybe i'm just mistaking stupidity for ADD.My brother that supposedly had ADHD has no problem with hyperactivity or anything.

I had never wondered why any of my brothers acted the way they did. They all seemed fine to me.One moved out three years ago and the other moved out last year, and in all that time I had never noticed anything odd about the way they acted.

It was silly of me to say that ADD doesn't exist though.I had just never known anyone who really had it.Now that I think of it, I did have a freind that I suspect of having ADD.

ritalin is just state-sponsored Amphetamine..

i dont think everyone has such as an extreme case as mine (finger tapping, foot twiddling, etc..) but ADHD reaches into further realms than the obvios physical world, you cant always tell that a person's brain is zooming, the people themselves cant even tell that..thats up for the d.o.c.

My brother has ADD. I'd totally disagree with the whole "there's no such thing as ADD" statement. My friend Ben claimes he can't do any of his work because he has ADD. I call that laziness. My bro, on the other hand used to have a lot of problems concentrating on things and such in school and when he joined the navy, but he worked his ass off in order to be able to fully concentrate and get shit done. Personally, i think ritalin didn't really help him too much.... So yeah... my .02.

some circumstantial evidence that ADHD does not exist:

Have you ever tried Paying attention to something for a long time while on speed (ritalin, adderal...)?

many of the "symptoms" of ADHD are caused by the treatments, which re-enforces the diagnosis, and encourages the subconcious to keep up the act.

If you wanna learn the truth about ADHD, go here:
http://www.reciprocality.org/Reciprocality/index.html
but be prepared for alot of big words :p
i especially recommend this to anyone who thinks they might have ADHD/ADD, or anyone who truly doesn't fit in (same thing)

this is my favorite part:
http://www.reciprocality.org/Reciprocality/r1/index.html

supposedly: Radiograms show people with ADHD have weak brains.

False: Radiograms show higher oxygen uptake by parts of [healthy people's] brains. Probably because of having to work against excessive background levels of neuroinhibitor just to be able to walk" (ADHD people's neurons are much less inhibited)

Time to reconsider who's the healthy ones.....
