I just made a thread about this. And then deleted it when the "rave" part was over.
Of course, the whole idea was that the student who overdosed got the bad drugs from a "rave", like the only place innocent and susceptible teenagers can get their hands on "X" is at a "rave".
And the actual "rave" scene...bwahaha.

im fairly surprised at the reaction to this episode...
at first i rolled my eyes and said "oh great, more bad rap".. but i was VERY surprised and glad what was shown was shown. did you guys even watch the whole thing, or just turn it off?
there was no claim e kills you... they talked about pma, and implicitly mentioned how you shouldnt buy from people you dont know, and talked about testing kits.. i mean shit guys, for a prime time show, how much more harm prevention talk could have been done? and the shit about "drugs are at raves", is totally true.
again, im surprised by your reactions, and im wondering if any of you even watched the whole episode. i was impressed by the content (it could have been a HELL of a lot worse, like dawsons creek), and the fact that harm reduction was mentioned several times.

Yes, I watched the whole show. And you make a good point. However, the implication that ecstacy can only be found at "raves" sort of shadowed the positive aspects of the show for me.
Yes I agree with syd.
And yes I watched the whole episode.

where was there an implication it could only be found at raves?
did you expect them to say something like "but you know, it can be found other places too!" ... the poitn was it IS at raves, and quite widespread... there was nothing bad about it. like i said, its damn good they talked about harm reduction.. but if you expected something totally non-bias, youd be dreaming.. i was EXTREMELY glad they showed what they did, especially for being such a prime time show

I dunno...i watched the whole episode...and i was still disappointed. They probably said the words "rave" and "ex, or ecstasy" about 30 times. It coulda been worse....but i dunno...its TV...pz

I heard the little bugger fucked his car up...
hmmmmmmmmmmm is this true little bugger?
*smiles*
Why yes Im still here. And I'm still me, magic penis powers and all.
I dunno the thing about the episode that irked me off...was..well everything. The mass public doesn't need to friggen think all the teenagers of the world go to raves and do drugs. They should be at home on there fat ass buying shit for xmas and not thinking. I fucken hate the staff of Boston Public. I want some crazy kid all wacked out on magic markers to go nuts and shoot all the staff minus the teacher with curley hair and whoever that girl that Jerri Ryan is playing. But everyone else can die. And the "hook lady" scares me worse than my mother in a nightgown.

A soft penis is never considered magical or powerful.

AJ, its the newest trend, and I'd say at least 30 - 50 % of teenagers and a smaller percent of college stundents now attend raves and do drugs. In all honesty, can you tell me you've been to a rave where NOT ONE PERSON WAS HIGH? Not even on pot? I dont think so.
They should be at home on there fat ass buying shit for xmas and not thinking.
They are at home sitting on the fat asses buying shit for christmas... just most people can watch tv from their computers where MOST people do their shopping now!! thats why america is so FAT.

uuuuuuhhhhhhhmmmmmmm I dont watch boston public... actually I dont watch tv. But from what kim said, if they mentioned the fact of harm reduction and what not.. you guys should be thankful. What if some 16 year old kid is watching and does ecstacy every weekend and had no clue about pma or testing kits.
You guys are acting like there really isn't ecstacy at raves when it is the most used drugs in the dance scene period. Get out of your little fantasy world and realize that we're not in a pure, drug free scene.

Well if they didn't fucken research the drug before they did it they can fucken seizure themselves the seventh layer of hell. Myself included...heh.
Ok, in all honesty I would feel bad if some tardo died. I would probably flinch or something.
Any my penis is rock solid damnit! Let me show you.
*pulls penis out* Don't worry it'll get hard any minute now..... any minute

ok guys, since e is the new thing and so are raves (to the media) THIS SHIT IS GOING TO BE DONE ON TV.
now given that, would you rather have another episode like dawsons creek, or one that takls about how e can kill you, and sets up more false ideas in peoples minds?
or would you rather have a show that preaches harm reduction, even at the end, when the girl is getting yelled at, she still talks about harm reduction and what a good thing it is.
i personally think people are way too over sensitive to say "OH MAN!! THAT SHOW SUCKED BECAUSE IT MENTIONED THE WORD RAVE" because it happens so much now, without stopping to think abut the CONTENT and how much worse it could have been on so many levels. just stop to think about that.
so far to date, i cant think of any prime tmie show which has talked about harm reduction so strongly. and since these shows are going to happen, what a better topic to talk about.

Ya, I agree with Kim on this one. Why get pissed just cause you heard the word "rave" on television? This is what I like to refer to as "blindly jaded"; getting pissed at anyone who says anything at all about raves who isn't in your age group and/or your party friends. People, raves are something kids like to do these days, so people are going to market it. It's sorta how this capitalist economy works.
So we had to drive somewhere halfway thru the show. I last saw it when the random girl was like "look! X!!! I got some for all of us!!" "Where did you get it?" "I don't know, some guy. Does it matter?" BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! This sounded like one of those after-school specials sponsored by the Ad Council. I almost expected the screen to freeze and see a guy in a suit step out and say, "Now, children, where did these girls make the wrong choice?"
So what happened? One of the girls (who was the principal's daughter) got picked up for curfew violation or something. I assume the other two girls are gonna eat the E and find out it's PMA or something. Drama, drama, drama.

im glad peopel are starting to agree with me, and enkidu nailed it when he said "blindly jaded".
i keep saying it, but ive never ever heard harm reduction talked about on tv, especially pill testing kits. *I* half expected something for dancesafe mentioned... and people still probably would have complained. yea, maybe the lingo sounded cheezy, and the word rave was used, but do you expect them to call them "parties"? these are adults writing these shows who dont go to these events, so they are supposed to know you dont call them raves? shit, thats what i called them before ireally got into the scene and realized its taboo to say that.

Probably the only place high school kids get ecstasy from is at raves.
*edited because I know that e can be found pretty much anywhere. My point is that everyone (including high school kids) knows they can get pills at rave.
It was just the cheesiness.
*shakes head*
I wish they would have done some consulting or something... heh
