View Full Version : Goddamn hackers!

First, and foremost...I use the term 'hacker' very loosly, for I was threatened earlier today by a guy who said he wanted to castrate me for my use of the word on another board.

Here it goes...
My boyfriend and I got back from a week in Palm Springs very early yesterday morning. Around 2pm today I get a call from my boss saying he cant sign onto our AOL account in the office because it says my screenname is currently online. I havent been on my AOL account for more than a week. So I sign onto AOL on my BFs computer just to double check, go to my e-mail inbox and there are literally 70+ fucking e-mails from ANGRY people telling me to stop IMing them. They knew my name, and my BFs name (from my AOL member homepage I assume, which I just deleated). They ALL say I (someone using my account) IMed them with this same message over and over...
"Hello, can you help me with something?"
...and then my screenname signs right off.

What the fuck? My boss called AOL and had my password changed buta shitload of people are still IMing me as we speak asking what the hell I want. The last guy that I talked to said that he has gotten that same IM 3 different times today. One was from my screenname, and then from 2 other people. What exactly does that mean? I have no fucking clue.

NO I DIDNT CLICK ON ANY "CLICK HERE" LINKS!

NO I DIDNT GIVE MY PASSWORD OUT!

NO I HAVE NO CLUE WHATS GOING ON.

I NEVER download anything online, ever.
Now I'm no genius when it comes to computers, especially all the nonsense about firewalls and whatnot. But the Idiot from the other board told me earlier today that it was most likely a 12 yr old kid who stumbled upon a AOL/AIM program. I dont see a snot nosed little brat sending out a thousand of the same IM messages, but who knows.

Fuck AOL. Bastards.

I've heard about this happening to other people too. Dunno what the full story is, but it sounded like someone(s) were hacking passwords and then using said hacked accounts to send out spam mail or something to that extent. Something similar was happening on Ebay. I'd suggest changing your passwords on both AOL and Ebay (if you've got an ebay account).

theres a worm that went around on msn like that... it would automatically send a message to everyone on your list asking if they wanted to see a recent picture of you.. it looked legit.. when you started to download it was a worm.. spread fast.

might be the same kinda thing

realize, if you direct connect with anyone, they can easily get your ip and potentially fuck with you

someone did that to me on AOL once, but they were sending IM's that were totally disgusting and sickly pornographic....aol thought it was really me and ended my account w/ them........ I never figured out who or how it happened.....

another easy thing to do would just be to change your password.

I never do. While I'm at work, 99% of the time I have my away message on. I'll maybe get one IM a day, and it would be from someone I knew. I never carry on convos with people through Instant Messager. If anything, its "hi", and "bye".

Already have. That was the 1st thing I did. Though it was a pain in the ass trying to find out how on aol.com, since I wasnt at work where my main account is.

I"m pretty sure with an aol account and not the aim account you're unable to actually do direct connects... at least thats what I noticed when I have tried to connect with someone who uses aol.

Personally.. I think should be a lesson to you and persuade you into getting a different isp other than AOL... (:

good luck though... Was anything else on your computer harmed?

I have no say whatsoever in which provider my company chooses. They had AOL before I started working there. Since this has happened though, hopefully we'll be switching.

No, nothing. Although I talked to a couple people who recieved the IM's from my account, and they said that when they would try to respond, their computer froze.

It prolly is a snot nosed lil' 12 year old kid. I mean to find out someone password on AOL is pretty easy once u have the screen name, what with all the password cracking programs out there.

And once he is online, sending out mad IMs is as easy as puching a button.

Stupid people have tried to do that to me b4, but i either just change my p-werd or find out their real account aess shit up:)
