View Full Version : Good Dancers ...
Richie

I used to see so many good dancers at parties, but lately, everyones skills are just going downhill. There are still a handful of good dancers, but not as many. Everyone on the board is always talking about what skills they have, and that they are so good ... then how come I don't see that displayed at parties? I party every weekend in Seattle, and am friends with almost every good dancer that I have seen ... yet none of them are board kids. How come this is? I'm not saying that board kids aren't good dancers, I'm just wondering when they will be coming out of the woodwork? I would love to meet a few new kids with mad skills, but haven't found anyone nw who's just a sick dancer and parties often. If you are a good dancer, then lets see your shit at parties.

what's your definition of a good dancer? someone who can do liquid, or some other style that everyone and their mom can bust out?
i hate seeing repetitive shit. just fuckin' dance and have a good time, and don't worry about how other people are dancing. grr.

so are you friends with these people because of the kind of people they are?
I'm betting its because you think they are good dancers and you deem that makes them cool, and thats why you're "friends" with them.
and I can't tell you how glad I am glad to see that, because I was just sitting at home the other day thinking to myself what this world really needs is one more shallow superficial fag.
And I know you just the bitch for the job, but why am I telling you this afterall any one who had openly stated the following

Wow, that's a pretty depressing point of view, Richie. I'd hate to think that if I were to go to a party in your area, there would be someone like you lurking in the shadows, judging my worth as a friend on my style of dance.
Whatever.

richie, what up. haven't seen or talked with you since i left seattle in december....how are things? anyways, you know that i can dance, but i am not out there.......but there are plenty of good dancers still out there. at least that is what i saw the last time i visited. well, everyone isn't good. i wasn't good at first, it takes time. let the kids get better and then they will be able to rip it. but, as long as people are dancing, and not being e-fucking-tarded on the floor and in my way, i am happy. keep grooving kids............fuck..........late.

I dont see how you can judge peoples dancing. Its not like there is a particular distinct "textbook" form that everyone has to follow.
Why are you worrying about how people dance? How good a dancer is doesnt make a party its the fact that there are people DANCING that does. Showing love and grooving to the music.
I may not be the best dancer out there, but when I am connecting with the music, I could care less if someone comes up and tells me they like my dancing, or ask me "what the hell is up with that hip thing" (both of which have happened) I dont care what you or anyone else thinks, I have my OWN rythm.
I find the best, sexiest dancers are the ones who (yes its very cliche') dance like no one is watching...

um yer a fucking idiot.
In portland we used to have this kid named mike monkey. He was called the monkey cuz of how he danced. He was a bad motherfucker. He looked like an epileptic monkey on crack. Absolutely hillarious.
He was one of the REALIST people in the scene. He doesn't DANCE like I do. he doesn't dance like you do. He was ONE with the fucking music. His body MOVED by the music not because it looked good or everyone else did it. The music TALKED to him. That's the ultimate gruver.
Now we've beaten this thread to death. someone lock it before this asshole says something really stupid...

A lot of the "good" dancers are older and go to clubs. Sometimes when I go out I get goosebumps from seeing all the awesome groovers. It makes me happy. But what I think is awesome may be entirely different from what another person thinks.
Another thing: why do all these kids feel like they have to "prove" their skills by battling in circles?? Why can't we all dance with each other? Why does it have to be a competition?

Yeah no kidding. Maybe thats why I used to be so reserved when I would dance. But lately, I've noticed I need a bit more room to dance, which is weird. I've also noticed that my style lately has consisted of these.......pseudo pop*n*lock type moves, but by no means am I a breaker, popper, or locker of any kind. So if you spot me, don't make fun of me:mad: You shouldn't dicate your own moves-the music (or, *ahem*, bassline) should decide where and how you move.

Really, who the fuck are you Carl Jung? If I'm not mistaken your take on the situation is that myself as well as most others that posted about this are all misinterpreting what Richie is saying? Well I think you’re about as mistaken in your assumption as Japan was in thinking bombing Pearl Harbor was a good plan.
I don’t know what method of processing information you are using to come to your conclusion that virtually everyone else that read what Richie wrote ended up misconstruing the true meaning. Personally I used logic, intelligence, reason, and factored in the myriad of posts made by Richie that call others ugly, stupid, and placing complete emphasis upon pathetic, superficial, and meaningless highschool type popularity bullshit in choosing who he is "friends" with.

That’s pretty cut and dry to me. He didn’t say I have a lot of friends that are good dancers. He said I am a friend with every almost every good dancer I have seen.
So peace&love perhaps you should do a little research into the pattern of behavior of a person before you open your mouth and make yourself look as foolish as they did. If you would like some entertaining reading that’s filled to the brim with statements so horribly shallow and fucked up that if she heard one of them, I am quite certain Mother Theresa, herself, would crawl out of her grave and start beating kids, and kicking cats

Okay... I just want to mention, that anybody who actually takes the time to go to the link geminiboi posted, should totally read the whole thread. It is seriously some hilarious shit. Like, I'm talking "Board hall of fame." I was reading it the other day, and it still kills me.
But about this post in general... it kind of doesn't bother me so much as it is seeming to bother you guys. Sure, it probably isn't true that people at parties are all bad dancers now (like kim said, maybe he goes to the wrong parties)... and maybe it is a little bit judgmental to say that anyhow. But I can still understand the urge to meet people that are good dancers. I don't think that he ever said that it was all he based his friendships upon, or that he would never be friends with somebody that doesn't fall into the good dancer catagory.
I know good dancing is in the eye of the dancer, but there are some people that really spend a lot of time working on it. I don't really see anything wrong with them collaborating and showing each other a few things. Granted, I would never bother to do that, but if that is your thing... whatever. It would be kind of like me saying "I am looking for some good djs to spin records with," which I doubt anybody would have a real problem with. I think people really should look more at the intent of the poster before they decide whether they are evil. (note: geminiboi is an exception to some extent, because he knows richie beyond reading this post)
I dunno... I thought this thread was a little lame, but definitely not so flame worthy.
However... I would really like to see what you consider good dancing richie... because I bet there are plenty of people that would find that kind of dancing extremely annoying and/or conformist.

I have to agreen on invis about this (as of questioning "why judge who's "good"...). Although I recognize the good dancers and I give them props for their hours of practice/natural talents (my fellow freestyler friends), it's better if you don't get caught up in judging! Everybody have their own style (newbies to advanced) and we all should learn to appriciate their creativities! Sam (aka Likwid Kid) is a good example for this! Even though he's one of the best freestyler I've ever seen in Seattle area (vs. me, not very skilled freestyler), he still hang out with me at the party, and gives me props for the originality in my style!

Dancing is for the individual. The whole problem with today's society is we care to much what everyone else thinks of what we are doing. Here is what I say, you want to dance, then DANCE YOUR ASS OFF. If you dont, dont, (just dont take up all the space on the main floor for those who do, hehe). If you want to dance, just dance to the music because thats why you are there. If people knock what you are doing, oh well. If people like what you are doing, oh well. Do it for you and the love for the scene and what its about. We're just supposed to be raving for the freedom to dance the nights away and socialize with other people like ourselves. And Richie, whether intended or not, the way you worded your dancing spiel came out like someone who knocks people for the way they dance (whether intended or not, just stating a fact). Anyway, thats my op. Peace
The Great Wyte (lol)
hey there everyone i had to post something on this thread but i really don't know what (only wanted to post something because it's about danceing).....everyone does dance their own way i give props to anyone who is out there on the dance floor. i do give more props to the people who take their dance to the next level and practice for hours and hours on end like i do. o wells it's to early i just woke up

Here's some funny shit, so I've pretty much danced the same way, with small changes here and there since 98, much like a dj changes his set I remove stuff I feel doesn't work and add some new shit, And I'm sure although it's invisible to me, the way I dance is 100% different now thjen it was when I started. Now If you'll pardon my ADD, the point of this thrad is that, I was ok when I started, no one worth getting in a breaker circle, or to battle with, but I wasn't flopping around like a dead fish either. Well NOW I STILL CAN'T do liquid well, pop and lock, break well, glowstick well, or any other gimmick dance that doesn't require a beat. But when I dance I DO have people watching me, and waiting for me to stop so they can tell me "dude your such a great dancer" or the like. HOWEVER I have rhythym(sp?) I suppose, some people don't. MY advice for those who don't is to go all out, cuz if you do then it can at least be said your trying and feeling the music, rather than put in a 1/2 ass attempt and look and feel like an idiot

Based on the way you started this thread 4 days after NL420, I'm assuming that this "trend" of there being less good dancers out there to be an observation you made just last Saturday.
I think there is a simple explanation to this mysterious disappearance of "the good dancers." Marijuana+420=MASS STONERS. Since it was 420, THEY WERE PROBABLY JUST TOO STONED TO DANCE.
Since 420 I've concluded that smoking MASS weed is not conducive to a dancers vibe. It may make the user paranoid about their dancing skills, and take their energy to dance away. Based on past experiences at parties, I've noticed smoking a LITTLE weed can help get the heart rate up, thus helping a dancer's energy level and possibly inspiring new moves. In fact, dancing stoned is my favorite thing to do at parties, dancing BAKED OFF MY ASS is not.
Most of the people I talked to at 420 were just that, BAKED OFF THEIR ASSES. So the "good dancers" were probably right there with them.
PS... I noticed you dancing at 420, Richie. You're a good dancer. Had I been sober enough to verbalize, I would have come and said hi and danced with you. I was gone though, you know how it is. And, I'll be doing the same thing all over again at "Still Smokin'" too, see you there. Come say hi.
I'm OUT TOO!

Wow!! First off, I think everyone needs to stop and look at what they are saying. When the fuck did dancing become so apt to criticism? I mean for real now, what makes someone a "good" dancer? The number of people standing around watching them? How many drugs are those people on when they watch you? People need to learn how to stop dancing for others and start dancing for themselves. Then watch all the people gather around. Back in the Tri- Cities, we used to feed off of each other. We danced out of a love for dancing, not to out do the next. If you've ever seen the Ravers from the Tri- cities I think you'd understand what I mean. To me a good dancer is simply someone who isn't afraid to dance. Really the only bad dancers are the people in the clubs who go there to stand and have never even stepped foot on the floor.

Is the purpose of nwtekno and the rave scene for us to criticize one another and get angry with one another? I'd like to think not, but everyone on here gets after one another (and I wont be hypocritical because i've done it as well) but damn, where is all this negativity coming from? Richie, I'm sure you are a bad-ass dancer man, and I can see where you are coming from, so I dont think we need to have Richie as a "nwtekno hater" but instead just take it for opinion and dont respond to the threads you dont want to. I'm not saying that I am a bad ass dancer ... I'm saying that I love dancing ... and that I enjoy seeing other people dance well.
As for the kids taking a naive role, and asking what makes a good dancer? Excuse me for a moment, but come out from under your fucking rock. If you haven't come to the realization that this world is not perfect, that there are people who excel in different aspects, that not everyone is equal in every way ... then you need to learn a few things about the world still. Although ignorance is bliss I guess . Play it like the world is perfect, me on the other hand? I'm not going to sit there and pretend as if there is no difference between different people. Micheal Jordan is better than I am at basketball. That doesn't mean I'm less of a person ... it simply means he's better at something. You all need to quit it with this whole "everyone is the same" bullshit. We are not the same, and that's what makes us all cool. We each have individual characteristics that prove superior in different ways. I know you aren't stupid, I know you know all this ... but when someone enjoys what they do well at, they get bombarded with insults and slanderous remarks. Yes, I do think highly of myself as a dancer. Am I the best? Far from it ... but I like to see other good dancers.
You think you all have such better opinions, and such more open minds then the rest of society when in reality, your the fucking sheep.
There are better and worse dancers out there ... there are. Don't get up on me because I think (let me say it again ... think) I'm a good dancer, get on me if I start making fun of kids for not being good.

He he, it's great watching way-too-fucked up 16 year old e-tards dancing together, kinda pulsating on the floor, groping eachother.
Lol... That paints a really weird image in my head. Scared of it.

I wish I could dance...but nope, I deffinately suck. i'm working on it though. You know who are some really good dancers? Jesse, Troy, Marcus, Timone, Bryan, Thomas, Squirel, and a couple others. Most of which are from Portland. I wish i had skill.

It's called haters, and it comes with perfection. Not even I believed in real "haters" up until this board, when I made the realization that most of the people on here are just lonely internet junkies who went to a rave or two, saw someone they thought looked cool, and tried to become them online. As my Fag Poppa, Neil, always taught me ... "Class never competes with trash" ... so why bother bickering with these maggots? I'm not saying all of you are trash, because some of you are cool ... but most of ya ... yeah, you're trash. (and I am the one who decides who's cool and who's not)

This is not my doing Sam ... when you are repeatedly told this on a day to day basis, saying it just kind of ... I don't know ... flies off your lips. It's easy to say when it's oh so true.
Elroy
04-28-2002, 04:44 PM
The point is that you should have to say it out loud if you know it is true. Just let the other people say it for you...

Totally.
Personally, I don't like to dance in big crowds of people. I like to zone out and really enjoy what I am doing. I will really only dance if I am in the front so that I am not totally surrounded by people. I don't understand "competitive" dancing- it's just not my thing. The only time I like being watched while dancing is if the crowd is nice, and I am in the front making people feel more comfortable to dance themselves. When I was on the main stage for Glaude's set at Laygoland 2 it was cool becuase everyone in the crowd was hyped and it was like they were dancing with me. I like cooperative dance environments, not competitive ones.

Dancing is a sport to me ... I feel like there is always room for improvement or something that can be tweaked to look a little bit better. It's a fun sport, and not everyone takes it seriously. I do enjoy watching all different types of dancing as well, not just typical kinds.

If you've ever been to Last Supper Club, then you know that it's bad dancing (vibe..atmosphere..people...etc) at it's WORST!!! In fact, i wouldn't even call it dancing...Dancing is only dancing when it's good, when it has your hear, soul, and mind all combined and expressed through your body's motion. It's singing with your body...It's love...IT's life...if it's bad, it's not dancing at all. it's mindless, pointless booty-shaking in the worst sense of a word

Check out the Deep Down Lounge on saturday nights for free jungle. It has a nice comfy vibe with lots of groovers. Arena on fridays is pretty good sometimes. I some bad ass dancers there the last time I was there.

I think that the rave scene is not perfectly upholding the ONE THING that I feel the rave scene should be holding up. DIFFERENCES. The differences that people have are what we should truly be learning to respect about other individuals. So lets give props to those who deserve props and we'll all find that niche within where we excel. Thats how things go. One man's weakness is another man's strength. So, I'd just like everyone to take that to heart and think about what the raves do for us. Whatever you enjoy doing at a rave, strive to better yourself at it. Some of us dance, some love doing light shows, some spin, some sell things, and some just enjoy being there with the loud sounds blaring at as while we socialize with people. Whatever it is, just have fun doing it, and be safe. PEACE

Dude, the fun of the board is to get people all disheveled about issues, to make them get angry ... then sit back and laugh (and maybe snap back once or twice). I don't really care what people think of me (of course I do to an extent ... but who doesn't). I'm Richie, and I enjoy me, so that is who I will portray and be. I don't say "whatever" often, because I often have something to say, so I say it. Difference of opinion and debate is super ... I love them both.

No shit. Everyone really needs to get the fuck off this little soap box trip. How come it is that everyone is so quick to jump on me for asking for good dancers to come out and play? Did I once say "I am the judge of good and bad dancers"? No, and I wouldn't either. This conversation is becoming a little rhetorical for my taste, so once someone has something new to say about it the subject, or if someone wants to meet up and dance at a party, post it. Eating pills doesn't have to equal being messy. When I eat pills, most people can't tell anymore. But anyways ... that's good you don't eat 'em I guess, more power to ya and stuff.

Sure, whatever jackass, I love having people's first impression of me being a jaw clenching, eyeball rolling, name forgetting, water spilling clown. I seem to be a little more outgoing when I'm not busy sucking air through my teeth and forgetting what I'm doing.

No need to flame. Not everyone that drops is like that either.

I'm sure you can't control yourself when you're under the influence Sondr, and I'm sorry to hear that, but unlike you ... I actually maintain, and don't try to get as high as possible. If I do get high (which doesn't happen very often) it's to improve my dancing. If I plateau as a dancer, I find that I become more creative when I'm under the influence. I don't eat pills to walk around a party getting light shows and backrubs ... I mean ... more power to you and those who choose that way of getting high Sondr, but it's just not for me. As long as your ass isn't on the dance floor where I'm trying to dance, I'm cool.

Hey bitch, quit trying to read ... it's obviously too challenging for you. I wasn't rationalizing anything, if I get high, it's because I want to, I don't need a rationalization for it. If and when I do, it's because I want to get better at dancing. And I forgot who I was rationalizing to ... was it the dirty white-trash PDX man Sondr ... or is it for all the other insecure 16 year old board kids such as yourself ;)? A little clarity on that subject would be great.

Sorry Sondr ... I forgot I was talking to a tard. Yes, the rumors are true ... not everyone likes to get fucked out of thier mind when eating pills. I enjoy a good high, but not one that I can't understand what's going on around me ... it would then defeat the whole purpose of my high ... dancing. A "buzz on" as you would call it does me just fine. Stick to eating 4 a night, but I'm good where I'm at.
I don't know if I'm the only one, but I sure as hell am glad I party in fucking Seattle, not PDX with all these fucking half-wits. It gives me a headache just reading the stupid shit they write ... I'm not sure if I could handle seeing the stupid shit they do in person. I feel badly for all the normal kids down there.

Hey bitch, I'll quit reading as soon as 'tards such as yourself stop making useless and utterly ridiculous threads such as this one, and then making up completely unbelieveable excuses for why you get fucked up and clog up the dancefloor.
Believe it or not, Richie, you are not god's gift to the rave scene. I'm pretty sure that if you were to dissapear off the face of the earth tomorrow, none of us would be mourning. You are, in fact, a snotty, bratty, superficial little fag with nothing to better to do than make pathetic attempts to glorify your ineptitude on a fucking message board. Making digs at my age and calling Sondr white trash does not help you get your point across, whatever that may be.

Oh, I found a new one ... the ego one is more specifically designed to someone who is young, gay and beautiful ... don't think to hard about that ... you wouldn't want to get a headace from not being able to understand.

Didn't I tell you before not to try and read anymore? Bad bitch ... bad, bad bitch. If dancing is clogging then consider me guilty. But what I would really like to see is higher age restrictions enforced in the scene. It would prevent little raver-girls and boys such as yourself from ruining our party, vibe and scene.

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't mourn. And yes, I am a snotty, bratty, superficial little fag ... that is the persona that I display on this board. Do ya know why I display that persona? Because of sophomoric little Portland ravers like yourself. It's easy to realize how good I am when being compared to people like you.
And Sondr, stop teaching her more than two syllable words, she's gonna choke on 'em soon .

I find it really fucking ironic that when someone points out what a complete and total IDIOT you are, you cry a river about "ruining the scene". Newsflash: there is no more fucking scene, and certainly no more "vibe". Why? Because of people like yourself claiming to be all-knowing and elitest, when, in reality, they have NO FUCKING CLUE what they are talking about. You are the epitomy of a stupid, generic raver, and I really hope you realize that and get over yourself.

A. It really doesn't do you any good to be bring up her age richie (for reasons obvious to anybody reading the argument without an ego attached).
B. The dancing thing is ridiculous... did it ever occur to you that there is a problem when you can do something creative, and important to you the best when you are on drugs?
C. Yeah, sounds like just a buzz to me.
D. I take e to get fucked up and make an ass out of myself... but that's because its rare, and I am confident enough in my sober persona and social standing to realize that it is just ammusing, and nothing more when I am high as shit.
