So I saw that movie last night... thought it was great... (Very realistic to how those "righteous" people work) has anyone else seen this movie? What'd you think?

Wow, great call Daz.

First off, Gyllenhaal is a superb actor; either that or he got a role that couldn't have been better-suited to his tastes.

Second, I've been waiting for the damn DVD - is it out yet?

As far as the movie was concerned, I've only seen it once so needless to say my perception is not yet complete. But upon first viewing, I was amazed. Thought-provoking as hell, extremely tight script and great characters. What a fucking movie...and truly an original.

Not on the movie, per se, but interesting nonetheless. Richard Kelly is a USC Film School alum and won all kinds of awards and garnered hella recognition for the script. The problem was that the content, direction, etc was so "unique" that despite the lauding, no studio would touch the picture with a ten-foot boom mike. Enter Drew Berrymore and her production company, who fought and fought and fought to get this made, and to do it the right way.

I own the DVD...bought it on a whim about 3 months ago.

This movie is actually a take off (im sure) of a very popular 1950's book (the name which escapes me now)

I only saw half of it yet before I dozed off in a codeine and wine induced blur but I thought it was great and I really need to see the end.

THe Bunny was scary!!

Damn, you beat me to making a thread about this film...

I forget where exactly I first heard about it, but I knew instantaneously that I had to see it; themes of schizophrenia, alternate reality, surrealism and the distraught perversions of youth are my all time favorites.

The movie was pretty good too; Richard Kelly (the director, I believe) is DEFINITELY going places with this as his debut into the hollywood scene. I love the way he uses 80's tunes to paint these vivid and disturbing pictures of high school...lots of good camera work and incorporation of the soundtrack with the visuals (I love the twisted theme music and that Gary Jules song).

Some of those delusionary scenes with Frank are possibly the more disturbing pieces of cinema from 2001 (does anyone else think about why psycho-dramas are always scarier than actual horror films?).

Although I must say I am still confounded by the ending.

I saw the movie last night, and am still wondering what it was about.......

Did "Frank" give him the power to see into what the future would be if he didn't die????

Or did Donnie figure out time travel and go back in time??

I just finished watching this movie about 5 minutes ago.

I'm a retard, and didn't understand it at all.

Will someone please try to explain what the FUCK this was about? The cinemetography was really beautiful, but it all seems like a waste to me because I had no idea what was going on.

(btw- I found the bunny scenes incredibly disturbing, especially the part where he's in the movie theater...spoOOooOoooky)

This movie sucked a bunch of sheep ass. It had good ideas about plot twists, but didn't deliver the way it could have. Good idea, bad movie. Don't waste your money!

I saw this movie the other day and was actually thinking about starting a thread on it. Yes, Frank the bunny is REALLY scary. I didn't really understand the movie until my mom explained it to me. She took a bunch of quantum physics courses in college so she understood a lot of it. For those of you who didn't understand it, I would suggest watching it maybe a couple more times. In fact, I'm going to watch it again in a couple minutes. But anyways, I thought it was an awesome movie, definately one I need to buy in the near future.

so i didnt see the beginning of this movie but i enjoyed it at least

i am under the impression that he learned all about time travel and shit and after his life got really fucked up (his 2 pound girlfriend getting ran over and shooting out a bunny's eye) he went back to the plane incident and was killed... or , eh.. ........

anyways, it had interesting content, nice 80's music, nice score, nice cinemetography ,and nice everything else , with a sort of disturbingly hot mother to boot.. so good times even if it flew over me.

How the fuck is it that I'm the only person who thinks this movie was pure cheese.

When I first saw this flick I immediately figured it was just a parody of some pretentious film noir, like they intended it to be a spoof of a David Lynch movie for use as a comedy bit on the mtv movie awards. Wow there are so many little hidden messages and symbols! Come on people. They even had to throw James Duval into the cast to make it clear that it was a fake ass Gregg Araki film. This "movie" almost beats out Spun for the ability to actually make you dumber after watching it, and it wouldn't be complete without shitty over-acting to boot.

Never seen Spun but Donnie Darko sucked. WTF was the damn bunny? And time travel.. that shit didn't make sense. Oooooh, he could have died. I'd rather watch the black sound fx dude from Police Academy do a mime show than watch this lame movie again.

plus Jake Gyllenhall is hot!!!! (maybe not in this movie though...cracked up toby mcguire?) I loved all the characters.

You gotta get the DVD or go to the site, cuz otherwise you will never understand all the time travelling stuff that goes with this movie. IMDB.com has good info too, but spoilers.

personally i thought the directors cut was a waste of time, all he did was add the deleted scenes and a few pages from the book Grandma Death wrote. the bonus feature were an even bigger waste of time, they're just hours of mindless dribble. and this is comming from a guy that could watch Jake Gyllenhaal read the entire encyclopedia.

I saw Donnie Darko for the first time the other night.

It was an alright movie, but it didn't live up to the hype I have been hearing for years from everyone and their mom.

The music, cinematography and most of the acting were good but the ending was a total cop out, and Drew Barrymore's tries way too hard at getting her watered down interpretations of irony and existentialism across.
