I'm hoping I can get some help on some bus route questions and such.

I live in Capital Hill and was wondering if anyone knew the fastest route to take from the hill to the u-district? where are a few of the bus stops i can catch?

The other question I had is for people who are familiar with where to buy Monthly bus passes... I live in capital hill and I'm wondering where the closest location is where I can buy a pass?

Thanks for your help! Take care.
Peace. Andy

transit.metrokc.gov

they have info on bus passes (any bartell's drugs has them, too) and bus routes. I know anything that begins with 7 (74, etc) goes to the U-Dist...but really, the website is a lot more helpful than I can be.

I know I don't live in Seattle, but I stopped there a couple of weeks ago and took a bus to King's street. I would just like to say that in my opinion, Seattle's buses are WAY better than ours. You are soooo lucky. *envies seattle-ites*

Kinda irrelevant, but worth posting.

Vixie you have got to be kidding! Seattle area public transportation is amongst the most inefficient in the country! Let me tell you you must have been here on a particularly good day because metro is terribly inefficient, tis routes are limited, busses are never on time, do not run with nearly enough frequency, and for the most part hardly anyone uses them! TriMet has way better services! In fact I am jealous of those in PDX!

Bartell Drugs on Broadway (right by Taco Bell) sells bus passes, that's probably the closest place to you.

The 7 and the 9 both run down Broadway, then they go across the Eastlake bridge and right into the center of the U.

Just walk out to broadway and look for a bus stop, they are every two blocks along that road. Make sure you're on the east side (the same side as Orpheum, Subway, etc), NOT the west side (F-8, Fred Meyer, Seattle Central, etc).

Urban... what cities are you comparing it to? I don't drive at all, ride the bus every day and it works perfectly for me... including my commute to Redmond (which is shortened by the 545). The 8 is the only bus I've had problems with (being late consistantly); the 7, 9, 43, and damn near every other bus I take (M-F) is always within 15 minutes of one another. I think Seattle's bus system is fucking tits... ESPECIALLY compared to other cities bus systems I've attempted to use (CA: san fransisco, sacramento, huntington beach, newport; PA: philidelphia, harrisburg; OH: Columbus, Canton/Akron; anywhere in Italy, and several other places).

Are you trying to get to the eastside? That's kinda hard sometimes.. *shrug* weird :p

No, I mean the BUSES are nicer :D I know...You're bus system is very confusing. I had about 10 minutes to figure out which bus to take. Hard...But the buses are nice. Tri Met's bus system is way better. Wasn't it rated the best in the country at one point? :)

Tri-Met's city bus service is actually about the same or slightly worse than Seattle's.

Tri-Met wins because their suburban services kicks ass (TV highway bus runs every 15 minutes, etc) and they have MAX.

Metro kicks ass if you're not planning on leaving Seattle, it's just a pain if you want to get to places like Des Moines, Shoreline, Issaquah, etc. But Seattle is also a LOT more spread-out than PDX is, which is why our suburban buses suck more. Tri-Met works so well because even Forest Grove is only like 15 miles from downtown.

the most inefficient in the country? then why has it won numerous awards for being among the best?

where else in the country have you ridden buses?

I errd i suppose in saying the buses, in general I intended to say public transporation in the Seattle Metropolitain area is in a sad state of affairs, so I am sorry. However if you do not recognize this fact and you live in Seattle you must have been hiding under a rock or have been very immobile for the last several years. Our buses are surely better than in many places like LA or the busses in SF. However we lack rapid transit, and very widespread services to suburbs and the like. Personally I can only compare this to East Coast transport because that is the only other place I have lived, and I sure found it a bit more efficient and convenient there.
