View Full Version : Stop intellectual inbreeding!

To all you kids who constantly hang out with the same groups, read the same boards, and email the same people over and over again:
It needs to stop!!!
Get out there in the world! Find new circles of people to share your ideas with. Don't be such a stranger. If you don't make any attempts at this, you find yourself going down along with all the open-drug parties targetted by the government.
Self-regulation is key, but if you don't circulate you will find the waters becoming very muddy...
This was a public service announcement by: Raver against overindulgence and self-hatred.
Peace-n-respect!

Wouldn't that be social inbreeding? I'm not flaming, I'm only saying that because when I saw the title I was like "Word! I'm tired of universities turning out ten thousand writers who sound the same and write the same dumb stories on the politics of identity.*"
*Which is really bad, and needs to stop.

Pretty much... Intellect is the tool for social change, and if everybody is keeping to themselves and "their own" social groups, there is little chance to influence or help the collective consciousness...
Yeah, lots of university professors take part in this kind of inbreeding..Most students don't realize it and are easily taken in..

What does that mean?
Collectivism is just a way of defining the human psyche. For example: Take some great, provocative art. Put it in a big museum, publish it all over the place, let it seep in. It has entered our collective consciousness, meaning most people have seen it and absorbed it.
Just because not everybody has artistic license doesn't mean that everybody doesn't benefit from art.
Are you schizorphrenic or trying to spread anti-schizophrenic vibes? Because anyone who doesn't realize that we are all individuals must certainly be a schizo. :P

So... if I don't find make a conscience decision to go to a place I normally never would, and meet someone I normally never would, you think I'm inbred?

If you wrote what I think you wrote:
You are an inbreeder if you constantly talk to the same people, day in day out, rarely meeting anyone new or making contact with anyone but yourself.
I'm all for individualism, capitalism, and living a private life...

no matter what we do we will always be harrassed by the government. So how does spending extra effort finding new friends help with avoiding conflict?

Well, not exactly finding new friends...
More of having a decent (positive) attitude and making quality educational connections with new people... After all, with a crooked (but well-crafted) word or two, you can "make" anyone your friend. Yah know? The whole brotherly love thing?
Isn't politics the science of conflict resolution? The world won't heal itself. And the treacherous are ever distrustful...
ooOOoo... radio convention! neat =)
Im sorry, but I deem you unworthy of life....
*BAM*
Can we lock the thread now on grounds of pure boringness?

^^^^ SMUR is the new PLUR... but anyway, I don't necessarially like everyone outside my 'social circle.' People are so dumb sometimes, I just don't want to deal with them. *Shrugs* I'm always up for making new friends, but I tend to be sort of judgemental.
