For over a decade, NAF Studios has been the focal point for electronic music events in Seattle. It's earliest parties were done by crews like Cat In The Hat where it was normal to see a keg in the corner and attendance averages around 200 people. Then came the explosion of Seattle's scene in the mid 90's when companies like Exotica, HABIT, FTT, S&R, rocked NAF with magical events that brought several thousands of people together through the power of music with a tremendous vibe never before experienced in Seattle. As the size of the events grew, so did our scene and so did the number of shows and diversity of talent. Which brings us up to date. With over 30 production companies throwing numerous parties every weekend, we have one of the most diverse scenes in the US. Those crews come and go but the one thing that never changed. That one thing was NAF Studios.

Whether you love NAF or love to hate it, it has always been there. Our scene has revolved around it. It has given us a place to go when nowhere else would let us in. It was never the cleanest venue in the US. It was never the biggest. It was never the best, but it was ours. Most cities don't even have one place to go that always has a show. Cities like Denver can't even have parties in the city limits. They're ravers are forced to drive two hours away to go to shows and even then, they are limited to one or so a month.

Many of our eyes have been opened and our lives changed by people we have met and friends we have made at this place. We all spent our first parties here and now, we will be here for it's last. NAF Studios is closing down. We will never meet another friend here. We will never again hear our favorite DJs spinning here or even be able to step foot inside the concrete walls. It's over. So come help us celebrate the end of an era as we throw the craziest show in NAF history.

Dynamo Entertainment is teaming up with the newest and brightest promoters in this scene, Next Level. As these two powerhouses come together ,we're turning out the light on the past and openning the door to the future.

We would like to thank all of the other promotion companies that have made this scene great. This place would be less without you guys (and girls) around. Because this is the last show ever, we booked two DJs from each company that we think contributed to the growth of our scene. This party is as much for you as it is for us. Thanks.

So how come Roman and Shawn aren't playing (S&R) - Roman still rocks parties all over the country. He's paid more dues than any dj listed. He's also a member of Funky Tekno Tribe. Another production company you say rocked NAF with magical events that brought several thousands of people together through the power of music with a tremendous vibe never before experienced in Seattle

Where's Quest, Kipp, and Jonlee (Habit) - They still play out pretty regularly and Jonlee is probably one of the best house djs in the NW. They also threw a party no promoter today could do Dan and Donald 2x4 Something that will never happen again - EVER!!! I guess bringing Enrie comes kinda close...

Where's Joe-Matt and Sol (Phat bastards) - Taco threw the most cutting edge off the crazy hook parties that to this day are unparralled in production. Joe Matt and Sol are as much rave icons at Naf as any dj around. Not to mention they're two of the original residents of Gravity Point. Joe-Matt and Sol were throwing Bubble Beats when some of these promoters were still in Middle School.

Where's Mcphilly - 27/28 had the real nuts to throw true techno parties and bring out acts such as: Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch, Joel Mull, Mike Dearborne, Christian Smith, Misstress Barbara, etc..

Where's 360BPM crew? When Jungle wasn't popular these guys where blowing up the small room and making drum and bass in seattle what it is today.

Ummmm Naha and Delirium System 6 has been a presence in the scene for a very long time. Everyone, including you have at some point gone threw JonC for advice, a space, or talent. Some of you have even gone so far as to him grade your girlfriends essays...

There are more companies that have contributed to our scene but we could not accomodate everyone. We thought three outside rooms would be a little too much so we focused on companies that are around today and have thrown parties within the last year.

Probably record shopping at platinum or F8. Romans on the bored 24/7. Naha and Delirium play GT every tuesday from 4-6. Mcphilly is here somewhere...Joe-Matt and Sol play GT every saturday. Zacharia works at platinum most days when people are awake. Kipp and Quest play EMP pretty regularly(I bet Kai, smile or subconsciouse would know how to get a hold of them)

Well yall, Ive been doing NAF since day one....I must say that this is TRUELY a SAD event for MR TRIP2KNIGHT. I was there when in all started WITH DRAZICH & DONALD GLAUDE, then known as the DOMINATOR. I really think alot of people now have NO IDEA what this closing means....To me it truely brings a TEAR to my eye....What I want is a few more of the OLD SCHOOL DJS, and HELL bring BACK DONALD..I mean honestly how can you throw this event without him involved.....!!! I truely apprciate EVERYONE and EVERYTHING that has gone on there and that will happen there this night!!!!!! I want the DOWNSTAIRS to be open again,. I want the people who started this all to get their dues, I also want to see EVERYONE of the little kids who have been BITCHING about how much they HATE NAF and what they look like when they relize they dont have it!!!!! I am so looking forward to this night and hope all goes well...I would love to help in anyway I can in this event........I will MISS NAF, I TRUELY WILL!!!!

I think that most the oldskool ravers who used to see all the original Seattle DJ's back in the day at NAF really probably dont have too much to do with the rave scene today. Therefore they probably dont pick up the rave flyers too often. I think an oldschool lineup would be off the hook, but probably wouldnt sell NAF out. The kids who rave today didnt rave 5-10 years ago and have never heard of alot the the old DJ's.

I give credit to Dynamo for attempting to throw the LAST NAF party. Of course people are going to complain. They're doin' the best with an already sticky situation.

Some of them have drug problems, some are married, and others still deejay all over the country. Roman still plays out quite regularly. So does most of the old habit crew. Masa buys all the techno for groovetech, as well as running GT record label.

TruSkool and System 6 are two different things. A couple of the same deejays but Mike(the founder of truskool and the guy who fucked it all up, split the scene a while ago)

System 6 was/is John/Chris/and Naha - and Static...

I understand it's your party and your perspective, i'm not hating just showing some love for some of the people I think made a difference...I guess when I throw my first party by myself i'll get a chance to put my 2cents in on the scene. Until then it's a happy hard house, breakbeat, parlor, trance, jungle thing - Notice not one techno deejay is spinning - I remember several slamming Techno events.

Damn that sure would be sweet to see Donald close this sheezy, im sure if he knew his native seattle people were begging for such a proper naf goodbye he would scratch his head in consideration, but playing boston then coming to seattle right after words is a hell of a favor to ask, but they definately have been known to do crazier stuff. I havent been attending naf that long but I still saw alot of great DJ's there and I'm still going to be just as sad to see it go as you all who have been attending since day 1, im fighting to hold back the tears, hehe. So rumor has it mark is opening a bigger venue up in downtown, but for all i know it could be exactly that, a vicious rumor. I'd hate to think that I have nowhere to go now, to a real rave i mean, and that I have nowhere to start playing out when i get better :) Anyway im just 1 voice, but i still wanna say thanks to all the production crews and DJ's that I come out to see, and of course, even though some people wanna kick him in the groin, and some people love to hate him, gotta say thanks to mark. Well yall, Ive been doing NAF since day one....I must say that this is TRUELY a SAD event for MR TRIP2KNIGHT. I was there when in all started WITH DRAZICH & DONALD GLAUDE, then known as the DOMINATOR. I really think alot of people now have NO IDEA what this closing means....To me it truely brings a TEAR to my eye....What I want is a few more of the OLD SCHOOL DJS, and HELL bring BACK DONALD..I mean honestly how can you throw this event without him involved.....!!! I truely apprciate EVERYONE and EVERYTHING that has gone on there and that will happen there this night!!!!!! I want the DOWNSTAIRS to be open again,. I want the people who started this all to get their dues, I also want to see EVERYONE of the little kids who have been BITCHING about how much they HATE NAF and what they look like when they relize they dont have it!!!!! I am so looking forward to this night and hope all goes well...I would love to help in anyway I can in this event........I will MISS NAF, I TRUELY WILL!!!!

Who Knows , DONALD may not be there but, It will always REMIND me of some of the 1st times I ever saw him!!! I understand that some of the old skool DJS may not be around..but I do think a GOOD ROMAN SET is in order!!!! ANYONE>?????????

That would be nice, throw in a DJ HI-C set and your parties off the hook. I tried to close a venue with PI back in March of 2002 with Dj Dan but they re-opened it as a Hip-Hop club...go figure.

Have fun party people. The cool thing is your going to start seeing alot more renegade parties with kegs that go till 8,9,10 in the morning. Plus alot of the true heads will be in it longer. No more Naf churn, 6 months in, 6 months out...It's going to be underground again. The underground is why most of us got into it anyway...

Hell yeah......that will be the shit. But I also like to see good talent coming through with places to play......hopefully, they will have places to play. We don't want Seattle getting skipped on tour because of a lack of a venue, which I am sure will never really happen, but you could always fall back on Naf. Let's just hope someone opens up the ideal party place somewhere.

But you're not throwing this party, so we made the decisions that we felt were best. Doesn't mean they are in everyone's eyes.
And to say what you would've done differently is a waste of time because you can't change the lineup.

Seems like there are a few people that probably deserve these "honored dj slots" that didnt get them but I still do think the promoters did a good job giving props to those that have been makin this scene thrive the past few years. It looks like the bookings for this is giving props to the production companies by booking there DJs. As aposed to just booking the DJs that made Naf what it is. So I really dont think any DJ's should feel bad for not making the list. Because its promoters and DJs alike that made the scene what it is today.

Your right. BTW - I never said I was old school. I've been around for a long time but i'm only 21. I went to my first rave at naf when I was 15. Being 21 hardly makes me old school. However, I do like old school music like techno. Does anybody listen to techno anymore? Now that's old school. Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, Adonis(the REAL one), Frankie Bones, Derrick Carter, Mike Dearborne, Joey Beltram, and Steve Stoll. That's old school.

First, how do you know I'm a guy? Second, I like your idea. Like I said and you've said(something we agree on) it's your party...do what ever you want. Because this is a public forum I can disagree and put in my 2 cents. I don't care about Naf closing. Another venue will resurface and like djadonis said they'll probably turn it into something else tommorrow. We just can't rave there anymore.

Don't exagerate. If you really wanted to give something to the people this party would be free. You would have left the humpty visions, and Mrs. Behavins at home. Took the top ten DJ/PROMOTERS and asked them to play for free. They can't say no because "they've already made there money back" on Naf.

But, it is your party and this is how you feel naf should be on it's last night. I know your party will be alot of fun and that's that. One day I will throw a party by myself(I've thrown several with several different people) - too bad Naf wont be around to see it.

It's not temperary, Mark may have said he wasn't going to do raves anymore, but he has always (or at least as long as I can remember) held the lease to the warehouse. This time, he is NOT renewing the lease. I'm sure the owners (who are like 80 and hate this shit) will rent it to some company who will store clock radios in it or something.

And as far as Mark's "other" venue. It's going to be a club, not a warehouse. And, it probably wont be done for half a year so the real question is... what now???

that will be their SECOND to last show, the sept 7th things is their last.

but that's in colorado so some of you might not be able to go to that show.

First of all, I sure have no idea who KITA is--Moses Lake,hummm...maybe I passed through there a couple times on my way to spokane. Maybe didn't realize I planted a die-hard seed. Well,personally to KITA: If you're really excited about a show that's unrelated to the thread you're posting on-please,if it is bothersome to the thread-creator of the thread you're posting on,maybe do post on the correct thread. I could understand someone not happy about misplaced replies...I do thank you for your enthusiasm and of course merely try to point you in the right direction purely on the grounds of consideration for other promoters, not for the obvious anti-reason of being short-changed in the department of reaping benefit from controversy. I do have a hard time understanding how one of the masters of the practice of the motto "controversy breeds success" would have issue with such a minute embryo of a controversy - posting excitement about another show on a thread. I don't know when such an atrocity became persecutable by ill retorts. I remember when we threw hedonist x-mas and other promo company's crewmembers posted in a hopeful,anticipating manner--"...see y'all at (whatever name of party was)" and "is everyone as excited about (name of whatever party) as me for this sat.?" Well it didn't even cross my mind to get disturbed about such an occurrence--hey,cool,no biggie,good for them or whatever 'positive' thought came to mind. It's not like that doesn't happen all the time (like people having signatures that proudly and largely display info of whichever party whoever is associated with and naturally posting on other threads to intensify exposure---I don't see anybody getting ticked about that....Certainly not myself)

spacegirl: Nils, you of all people realize the draw of spacegirl-otherwise you wouldn't have brought her to all-american not terribly long after she had been in the nw already and also otherwise you wouldn't have pondered and made inquiries to her agent about adding her to your D4 line-up at the same time we had requested a 'courtesy-hold' for our date. And as far as the whole topic of consideration for other promoters-hey I moved our GroundZeroEvents Anniv.Party back 2 weeks-not to conflict with NL and Dynamo (eventhough I had it posted 10 days before being made aware of the NL sept.28--later changed to 27 show,originally already trying to avoid stepping on toes (I was thinking oct.5 to begin with but was informed NL was planning a big party that date,so therefore detouring to sept.28) and that was the 3rd time I had 'made way' for the reason of non-interference.

Nils-I have considerable respect for your 'craft' and that is why i referred to you in our recent telephone conversation as 'DH' (Designated Hitter) on whom one can count on delivering a great swing in a clutch situation. I just don't quite understand what's up here.

Now back to the cycle of positivity: Richard Humptivission always brings a crowd-good choice (he almost single-handedly was probably responsible for 1000 of the 1200 attendees at 'Fire and Ice'

Well I havent read most of these posts, but this is sad. As much as people bitch, i know you will all miss it, some where in your heart. I know I will.

The coolest thing I ever saw in that hall way, was when they stopped letting people walk through it and you had to walk around...two security guys were on either end and this kid climbed up the wall with his hands on one side and his feet on the other. He proceded to crawl along the wall like a bridge while the two guys tried to jump up to pull him down.

It may not be a great memory for other people, But its those small things that you will miss.
I may not be able to make it to this party, but my heart will be there.

What does everyone do on the following sunday when the party is over? Do you move on and patiently wait for future events that might fullfill all your fantasies about a rave? or are you still caught up on your black hole of bitching and whining about how a party should have went according to your thoughts and opinions?

Why not take that energy and try to have an adult coversation with promoters who are far from planning their NEXT event and give them feedback on what they could do for their next show. Keep in touch with them if you truely want your opinions to stay in their thoughts.

If anyone of you don't like how Dynamo and Next Level operates, don't bitch and throw a sissy fit for something that is ALREADY confirmed. Whatever happend to Feedback? Hand them demos, direct them to websites. You people make up the scene as much as the djs and promoters who put a lot of their effort into bringing you something you can experience for ONE night!!

In my opinion Dynamo, Next Level, LoveTribe, and Abducted are the only promoters in the NW who bring out talent that I want to see. Every weekend its breaks & drum & bass. Granted I do support my local djs who are my friends and aquantinces. But only at their events I can witness great talent by djs who are a great influence in my career as a dj such as Knuckleheadz, Morgan, Charlotte Birch, etc. By the looks of how things are going. 2003 looks like a very promising year and I support those who are down to try new things.

There is no point to repeat yourselves over and over when a response has already been made.

You can think about it this way. Dynamo and Next Level have a good reputation of giving you exactly what they advertise.

How many parties in the past year have had no-show djs when promoters knew but didnt notify or change the price on the door?

Who would you be upset at more?

I'm gonna agree with DAMEINCAIN on this one in saying that everything you posted in this is pretty ridiculous. But you're right. Kids die, most often, because they are stupid. I'm not being insensitive...I have kids too. And if, in 10 years, they decide to mix drugs and act a foo....I'm sure as hell not going to blame some promoter or anyone else but my lack of attention, and thier lack of discretion.

Twice, maybe more but yeah, MOLECULE Dec. 5th 1999. The cops turned the music off and turned the lights on for an hour in hopes to get people to leave. They also weren't letting anyone else in. This was like at 2:00am...the line was still to the street. The cops let way to many people in, when they realized what they did, they freaked out. Keep in mind this was the week of the WTO and the police who were working the show that night had already put in 24 hrs dealing with the WTO riots. Up until about 7:00pm the show wasn't even going to happen(I didn't know until Mark "kinda" told me)

I was driving Dieselboy and his MC back to their hotel when we saw the accident. Dieselboy wanted to stop and MC Dub2 wanted to keep driving. I kept driving. We didn't know the accident was related to the party at the time. It wasn't until a year later, when I was reading the paper, that I found out one of those kids died. The newspaper said they had tried to attend a dance party on Harbour Island and were turned away because the venue was too packed.

It's definately not Nafs fault this happened but say there wasn't a party that night, or luck would have it, they got in...probably wouldn't be dead now, or they would have gone on in life to become serial killers...who knows, nobody to blame but yourself I guess.

ABOUT HUMPTY:
A child of the mid-80's Los Angeles club scene, Richard Humpty Vission quickly established himself among the DJs of the area with his unique mix style that melded various genres of underground music in astonishing progression.

In 1992, when techno and house were the new sounds that radio didn't understand Humpty's street credibility from DJing at local events landed him here at POWER 106, one of Los Angeles largest urban radio stations. I will only get to go to a couple more. I have heard so much about the memories my friends made and events they attended here and I will only get to taste a little of if all. Regardless of this, I will be there for sure to help celebrate NAF's "retirment" and to watch a legend close it's doors.

That was the idea behind doing this party... I'm really excited to be able to do thisfinal Naf show.... I hear so many people complaining about Naf, and now that it's closing and I have such and such an opinion about this, about Naf in general..... with nothing good to say, completely caught up in all the negitive aspects of the venue, and here is a girl that just started going to parties and she has the right additude about events in Seattle.... we've been so lucky for so many years to have weekly events with a huge assortment of national and international talent coming almost each week... the city and police have left our events alone, and allthough there are/ have been problems, things could be much much worse.... but the time has come to move on, no matter what your opinion, it doesn't change the fact that in less than a month NAF studios will hold it's final event.

Tickets will be on sale very soon... as soon as we drop them off we will announce it...

we apologize for they delay but the delay is from the company that does our tix....

in the future I would suggest calling ahead to confirm that a store you are trying to buy tix from does in fact currently have them....

also, where are you driving from?? there is probably a ticket location closer to you if you live out side of Seattle....

I just read that article about the girl who died; really sad. but I have a question-near the end of the article it said how her parents have gone to over a dozen raves, and that open drug use was rampant, blah blah, and that children under 18 had no problem getting in unaccompanied despite a city law or something. I thought that it was legal for minors to be there as long as they had the right security, cops, whatever...
