Im sure this show will piss of a bunch of us as it has already pissed me off and has not aired yet but I just thought it would provide for a good conversation on the Board. anyway, check it out!

Fact of the matter is drugs are a part of the scene, as is the sex. It's been a downhill battle since we've tried to prove otherwise. Enjoy it and than years down the road pick up your copy of "Y2K rave compilation greatest hits" off an infomercial.

*yawn*
shows of this nature have been happening for how many years?
i don't understand why every time this happens, *somebody* has to post about it on the board. big fucking deal.
and besides (like sondr already pointed out), how do you know they're going to cast 'the scene' in a bad light?
as far as the "media exploiting our scene," get used to it - the media exploits everything it can.

am i the only one that gets some sick enjoyment out of watching this "rave exploiting" coverage?

I actully like watching it, because it brings to light the negative side of the culture. Since I'm not part of the 'drug' side, or the wild, random sex side(though that would be fun), I really have no reason to be mad. They are exposing all the shit that everyone says they wish would go away. So what if some reporter makes some expose on a bunch of etards?

Since everyone on this board claims to hate the etards, and nobody here is one, nobody here has anything to fear or hate on, right?

I think the reason some people get so upset over coverage like this, is that they are engaged in the behavior that is being condemed, and it ruffles their proverbial feathers.

Every piece I've ever seen is to soft on the rave scene. There is shit loads of drug od's they could get on camera, they could goto any after parties and most likely get some heavy drug use on camera, they could goto to more parties so they have more footage of all the normal drug use at parties. Like I said reporting about how bad ecstacy is used a these "raves" and showing footage with a bunch of candy kids with colorfull clothing, clinching onto stuffed animals, sukin on a "binkie" waving glow sticks around is a puff piece.. nothing much to see. Now if they dug in, got some great footage, reserached even futher in how distructive the rave scene is to the youth in this country, followed more of these kids around, etc there shit would actually be worth watching.

Riiiiight... lol.
Having run with nearly every counterculture for at least some period of time, I can personally guarantee you that there are drugs in every single social scene. I have watched kids snort heroin at punk shows and smoke crystal at goth clubs. I've seen kids drop acid at rock concerts and smoke bowls behind church. I've watched math nerds drink themselves into a stupor.
The desire to alter one's reality is a factor of human existence and has nothing at all to do with raves. To single out raves and air the hardcore drug use there while ignoring other scenes would indeed be "shit" (and probably worth watching, if just to laugh at).

I'm laughing with you of course. I know drugs exist all over the place. But the rave scene is all about drugs.. if it's not your fooling yourself.

Heh.

I hope it's negative as fuck. Maybe when "Our" Cutlure or Scene falls out of popularity with the stupid fucks who've jumped on the bandwagon in the last year (AHEM when did u register Pigtail?) or two, it'll be a family again like it used to be.

Who the fuck let you in to OUR culture??

I remember when u had to RUN from the cops because the party was thrown in a wherehouse someone broke into. You go to massives at the Exhibition Center and pretend you know what this fucking CULTURE is about?

The best shows are still good DJ's in SMALL venues. Still happens at CLUBS. Those aren't getting flack from any news media. Not Paul Oakenfoldupyoumoneyandbecokedoutordrunk, or Superstar DJ gotanylittleboysIcanmolest Ke0ki. I'd rather watch locals. Because most of em aren't making a living. They love the fucking music.

I could care less about what is said about YOUR fucking culture in the media.

Me? I'm not trying to get thier approval. What I love isn't going anywhere. Music's everywhere. It's Eternal.

Raves ARE about Drugs and sex. y do the girls dress like wh0res and the guys trying to mack on them.

Can't really argue much with that. Back when shit had vibe :D

That, however, sounds like high school, elitest, bullshit. It reminds me of when I was the picked on kid back in school, when I was just trying to belong. Just because someone hasn't been around as long as you means their love of the music isn't just as great. I'm not one to preach acceptance, love, blah blah blah. Fuck all that...but when someone starts saying you can't belong...or we're a members only, exclusive club...well that's just immature in my eyes. I could go join a country club that is more accepting then that.

Have to give 110% approval to that! :D Some of the best shows in my day have been to crowds less 200, where the dj's can interact with the crowd. And at a party I threw earlier this year...with around 300 or so people, I felt some of the best vibe I had in a long ass time. :D :D :D

So, yeah. Have to agree and disagree about some points...

So is it all about drugs? Or is it "more" about drugs? If it's "more" about drugs, how is more about drugs than other communities?

I don't see your point, or your argument :)

Carley are you kidding yourself? Last time I checked I didn't see the Government having to pass a federal law to control an epidemic to keep teen agers from hurting themselves at a N'Sync concert.

No. Are you answering my question? (no)

The government has addressed several social "epidemics" ~ which is one reason why I'm confused about your allusion. Please clarify what you are saying, and explain it.

two people fighting over stupid shit. but that's beside the point. as far as drugs go, one has only to take one look at the past to realize that there has ALWAYS been the desire to alter one's existence by using various methods of inebriation. coke was everywhere in the 30's and 20's -- it was fahionable to snort it everywhere, and that's just one example i can think of. not to mention ancient Greece, where to get rid off common cold one had to eat on some mushrooms, sleep, see the dream, in which the gods supposedly cured you. the scene is what you make of it.

Um, what is there to argue about. Parties and hard drugs go together like peas and carrots, and they always have. If you beg to differ, than you're either kidding yourself, or you're simply arguing for the sake of argument. And not only are more drugs involved in the party scene than in other scenes, but the type of drugs are much harder. Sure people smoke dank at hiphop shows or rock shows, but the use of harder drugs at these shows like mdma, lsd, meth, etc, is nothing compared to how prevalent they are at parties. The reason of course is because parties are the ideal environment for psychedelic drugs. Dark rooms, flashing lights, lasers, fog machines, loud droning music, etc.

Dejavu! :o

Parties and hard drugs go together like peas and carrots, and they always have.

Like Yemen & khat; low-income housing & crack; Oaxaca & salvia; dead shows and hallucinogens; trailor parks & crank; gay men and meth; the symphony & alcohol;

?????

Regardless, the issue wasn't 'are there drugs at raves?' I asked "Zupan" to explain his comment, but he declined to answer... as per usual ;)

In other words, you are so convinced you are right, you refuse to field an argument?
Either refute her with facts, or drop the argument. You are basically saying that if she doesn't implicitly agree with your as-of-yet unfounded statement, she must be misinformed. This is a logical fallacy.
If you make an assertion, you cannot expect people to simply take your word on it, you need to be prepared to present facts to support your assertion.
