Yeah, the timing of this thread probably isn't too opportune given our economy, but I don't really give a shit.

I am soliciting suggestions for employment, afterhours (post 9-5) or weekend. Now that I am supporting a deadbeat roommate;), I'm going to need supplemental income...

I want something part-time & fairly stimulating (read: where I actually use my brain) , preferably where most co-workers will be younger than say...30.

I'm pretty damn qualified for anything, so throw out anything ya got...

kick out the deadbeat roommate and get a paying one, so you have half as much to worry about

Good ideas all, but I want a bit more than minimum wage.

Fed-Ex and UPS tend to start hiring around fall/winter for seasonal to maybe longer employment.. it keeps you fit, and no lady can turn down a guy with a box and brown socks.

Join a union. Many union folks are young (although some are down right ancient, and scary). Lots of union shop have three shifts and will let you choose when you want to work. At my shop the cheapest you can be hired on for is $12.85 with guaranteed raises yearly (and sometimes every six months). As you gain more experience, they move you up in the ranks, which also raises income significantly. Not all posistions are manual labor, and they've got a union for just about anything these days. If you lose your job for some reason, the union will find somewhere else to put you. I dunno...Probably not your cup of tea...but if you're looking for well-paying part-time work, you might want to check it out. Good luck!

RudeBwoi - Good call on the UPS angle. I checked that out and here's the problem; they said there's a mandatory orientation that takes place during a series of 8-hour days (9a-5p). It also seems pretty career-oriented, which belies what I'm trying to do ie have a kickback off-time job. As such, there's no way I could hook that up in addition to my regular job.

AthenA - Joining a union is a pretty vague suggestion. I see where you're coming from, but there is the issue of Union dues, and I know a lot of Unions have prerequisites - more often than not within the specified field - of which I probably would not qualify.

Keep 'em coming, though. I'll give you a more stringent idea of the type of look I'm looking for:
Call Center
Grocery Store -

Something pretty lenient & flexible, not too serious, not terribly boring, generally young(ish) co-workers.

True. I love a man in a uniform. I say there's a tie between UPS guys and Firemen. ;)

With the economy the way it is you need to know someone to get a flexible, fun, job with young people. Or be downright lucky. I say try safeway.........

what you need to do is not be picky. there are a lot more job opportunities for less picky people. I got 2 sandwich jobs. I don't care where i work, as long as i get a paycheck, and it doesn't involve deep frying. As soon as you look for a specific job or niche, it makes your job search take about 4 times as long. Why not get a shitty job and keep looking for the good one? That's what I'm doing...

Hey, good call...but I already have a job job that I enjoy & is also pretty career-oriented. That's why I can afford to be picky; I'm looking for an optional second job.
