there are like 10-15 people logged in tonight and for the second night in a row i am not able to get on....last night it was all night tonight it will be??? what's up with that we never had those problems before...are there mad people not logged in being "guests" or? those logged in should get first dibs on resources if that's the case, this is fucked up.

Yeah, this is causing serious issues with me continuing my reputation as being a huge board whore ;) ;)

I've been getting the messages for 2 days now as well, and it has NEVER been this bad, not since the boards went down for a few days not too long ago.

I heard that it may be a problem with DreamHost? But I'm not sure. . .

it has been happening for at least three days, and I have gotten both of the messages mentioned here, as well as just general lag.
We have not had an unusual amount of users, so either
a) we have serious PHP issues
b) dreamhost's servers are having problems, or have been limited in some way
c) someone is DOSsing nwtekno

c seems unlikely, since Dreamhost would have their asses on a plate by now (not too hard to block an IP range) so I think it must be a or b.

whatever but you got some serious issues, like hexrei said. its never been this bad and there isnt a huge amount of new people. maybe now people wont post so much bullshit because it's harder.

Dear NWTEKNO Tech-Geeks:

To eliminate this problem your users seem to be having:

Just create a file name my.cnf in the /etc directory and add the following
lines:

[mysqld]
set-variable = max_connections=200

Save it and restart MySQL. That should be it. Yay.

(pass that on to whomever the nwtekno IT guys actually are - because lordy lordy I sure don't know.)

Heh, the max_connections is set way higher than 200. I'm not entirely sure what's up, but I'm in touch with DH about it. I think there's another site on the same machine that's eating up our resources, or something.

we should get our own machine :-)

We had our own machine, but it died. If you know anyone with a few grand to blow on another one, send them my way.

Well I have Powerball and Oregon Megabucks tickets for tonight's drawing. If I win, I promise you new machine ;)

I've been getting the server busy message frequently over the last week or so (including just now when trying to view this thread about server problems!). Also, been getting the max connections yadda yadda whatever messages as well.

A lot of times I can't even open the home page!! Will not even let me on to the site. Maybe I'm on this thing too much any how?

So, VMaxxed, did you win, or what?

I changed something that might fix it... maybe. Let's see how things go over the next few days...

ok endquote, here's one for yah... im in Tokyo, and when i go on, say around 12pm-3pm, which is 7pm-10pm in Seattle, i get one of those server busy messages, which i might be able to accept being that its peak time... however, when i go online during the night over here, say around like 9 or 10ish (example times), its about 3-4ish in the morning over there, and it takes forever to load a page, and im on broadband... ive even timed it, it takes approx. 45 sec to load a page... there has seriously got to be something wrong if i cant load a page on this site when its not even peak hours

MrMiyagi

well, whatever you guys did, its back to speed at non-peak times again

not gettin the error, but its still S-L-O-W on my DSL.

its somethin new, I've never seen the board do this before, aside from crashes which are fixed in a day or so. but whatever. our lives will end when we can't post on some board.
