This was my first visit to 'noiselab' the new club in the 925 East Pike position...its been innumerable different clubs in the past few years. I used to go to this location a lot when it was ARO.space... apparently noiselab is being directly managed by the same people who were responsible for ARO.space, very nice....the space has so much potential -- the stranger reports its the 2nd biggest club (space wise) in seattle. neato!

The setup is good...noiselab has a very 'yellow' theme. There are three different bars and TONS of seating...I had to wait 20 minutes to get inside but once I got in there was no lack of seating. Sound was clear/loud throughout the premises and the drinks were STRONG! My party had a bit of issues actually GETTING drinks though...we waited 20 minutes like everyone else to get up to the bar.... we had been watching our soon-to-be bartender make mixed drinks for customers for a quarter hour. When our turn arrived we placed our order and the guy said 'sorry, I dont do mixed drinks..talk to the guy at the other end of the bar...” needless to say the guy at the other end of the bar wasnt paying any attention to us and the guy who refused us wouldnt flag him down to help us.. we stood there a few minutes, stunned, and then watched the guy we just talked to make 4 rum and cokes.. apparently lowly PAYING customers with money in hand arent eleet enough to get drinks from the person behind the bar.

we eventually got served but we had to trek across the club and wait another 20 minutes at a different/smaller bar. all in all an hour to get a drink, not too bad. heh. :\

Anyway, this was my first time seeing Josh Wink live and he put on a hell of a show. I heard everything from house to wave to hard trance to fluffy trance to techno and hiphop....even some radiohead.. a lot of remixes of older things I've never heard remixes for. :D his flow was quite smooth and the dance-floor crowd seemed pleased...he kept everyone guessing all the time and brought up an foot-stomping aural surprise each time. Definitely one of the most dynamic sets I've heard in awhile, more then once I wondered what he was going to do with a particular loop and was usually surprised.

The crowd itself was very cool. I havent had so much fun on a club dance floor since PVD at the showbox many moons ago.. TONS of smiles and people really getting into it. Nothing but polite and fun/outrageous personalities getting down with their bad selves. Unfortunately the noiselab dancefloor isnt as big/well-laid-out as ARO.spaces but its a very danceable space with interesting lighting...I'd go again assuming the cover isnt always $12 and I'll probably drink before I go if only to avoid the surly barkeeps. ;p

i liked mr. wink's set. couldn't tell if the radiohead track was a remix or if he was just droppin' it. liked that.

the crowd left a lot to be desired. condor quipped "putting the frat back into the club scene." at one point. he had several girls come up and grind all over him, and i had a guy follow me around the club for two hours. wherever i would dance, he would appear and would proceed to put himself all up in my space. :(

i kicked some people due to the lack of room. i feel bad. i dance big.
if i kicked you i am sorry. i managed to find a small corner with a couple enthusiastic dancers (shout out to black boy with hat and tall boy with slidey-dancing) and that helped.

I'm assuming the "tall boy with slidey-dancing" was Middle Eastern or Asian.

I was only there for 5 minutes and was like wow. Final Scratch is a very cool thing. Most, if not all the remixes were probably done by him on the plane over.

FInal Scratch is truely the next step in dj culture...

FUCKING AWESOME, like I said before Josh Wink is a musical GAWD!!!

I must say, every time i see josh wink play live, I sit there in aw. I am not exactly the biggest house fan on the planet but with a set like that I can't help but smile. As soon as I walked in the the door and felt the heat, I knew the turnout would be good and people really seemed like they were having a good time. He had so much damn gear up there, he was able to pick apart every song he played and would give each one a new twist. This man has never not blown me away when he plays. I think seattle has been doing a very good job lately with bringing in talent that we don't see every other friday. The last couple of weeks have really impressed me and if I have to pay $12 to go see Josh wink, i think its completely worth it any day of the week. Trip, you hit the nail on the head. Wink is a musical GAWD!!!!!!!!! I helped a catering company for a while and met him at Endfest a few years ago (his dreadlock days) and talked with him for about an hour. He is the most down to earth person you could ever meet. That smile never leaves his face and he doesn't carry that "I'm a global star so get away from me!!!" I truly do respect him as a person and an artist. This quote says it all........
"If I could melt down vinyl and inject it into my veins, I would be an addict"

Quote from an magazineinterview with Josh wink a few years ago.

not quite on-my-ass-from-laughing, but almost.

I only caught the last two hours of the show and it was great. I can only imagine what I missed earlier. How about that thirty-minute breakdown at ~2:30am?

johnnymonsoon

That had to be the longest breakdown I have ever heard. Talk about bringin it in, then down, then up then down. My god he had that bongo sounding drum playing the whole time and it was cued perfectly. Only sumpin mr wink can do!

Met some real good people. :)

Was'nt till the end I when I asked JOsh to put on the classics for us I thought it got really good. :) "HIgher Stater" and "How was your evening" was a nice touch. :) Never met the guy and he was a really down to earth approachable person. No Ego! Gotta love that.

Liked the music but Loved the space and the happy faces! :)

i sure am sore from dancing for 4 hours nonstop

its been awhile,,,,

,,, good thing my friend convinced me to go to this, my 5th time seeing Josh Wink was surely my favorite set yet!!!!

i have to agree with adonis,,,
FINAL SCRATCH RULES!!!!!
this is the future of mixing!

i am glad i saw Wink use it, after seeing Hawtin use it @ the Showbox, i wanted to see what someone else would do with it and i liked this set even better, no more crates of records to lug around! GREAT!!!!!!!

i also really really LOVED the older couple having a great time next to me as well! that helped to make my night for sure!

PS to the "ravers"
i dont mind if you are dancing big and enjoying yourself, but i know from many years experience that "sometimes" we need to modify our dance moves according to the space available, which some people have not yet learned apparently, sorry to be so blunt,,, but i just expect more courtesy from you guys than the idiots from the average clubgoing meathead/frat/lame girl contingent.

:)

That fucking rocked.
Josh Wink is a great guy. Really really intelligent.
noiselab rocks. I love what they've done with the space.

Did I say that his set Rocked, with a capital R.

Eva's set was great, too, and MB was really dope as well. he played some stuff that really got the dancefloor going.

Good vibe, with the exception of a number of semi-spastic rookie pill poppers.

Quick ? , there was a guy about mid 30'2 , heavyset and looked like balding walking around taking PICTURES with a pretty nice camera, one of the LARGER 35 it looked like. He took a picture of Me, Wink, and Eva...Does anyone know who he was so I can get a copy of that pix ???

Right around 3. Maybe even a little after, judging by the fact that I was back at my house at ~3:30 and I don't live that far away.

"Neat"

It's a neat word. I remember using that word when I was in elementary school. Plus, it's just understated enough so that it doesn't sound like you're about to lose your cool when describing an event. Lastly, people might think you're British if you use it with nonchalant flair.

If he played till 4, I missed the encore. :[

I only stayed til about one and then took off. I had considered leaving a couple times before that, but then he'd drop something funky and I'd stick around. I guess I'm blind because I didn't know he was using Final Scratch. I saw the computer up there, but I also saw a ton of other gear.

Eventually the crowd just got to me though, and I had to go. Over all it was worth the dollar I spent there. Probably would've had more fun if I hadn't been ditched by people I was supposed to go with.

my night was ended just as wink was coming on due to my companion's broken zipper. there goes $24 down the drain, although mb was really good (spent most of eva's set trying to get drinks.)

not being the biggest house fan and josh wink playing somestyle of house music every time I have ever seen him, i figured it was a safe thing to say. " Wink's eclectic style incorporates house, techno, trance, drum 'n' bass and avant-garde experimentation." I read that in an article and besides the drum 'n' bass, it sounded pretty damn close to saturday night to me! Anyways, my point earlier was that josh wink is an amazing dj, artist, producer etc. etc. and I would pay $12 to see him anytime. And hats off to noiselab, I think we may have a serious contender for a new club night in seatown!
