fucking kick ass!
thanks to everyone that made it out, you made it a beautiful experience... including the Officers, who were incredibly understanding and cool about the whole thing.
Beautiful PsyTrance all night long...
hope the 5 of you enjoyed my IDM that morning =P
gorgeous night... words cannot describe, except to say, THAT is what having a trance party is all about...
NEXT YEAR:

Thank you for such a wonderful time. In true goahead fashion, I danced the entire time! (okay, one quick 5 minute nap at 5:30am)
;)
where did everyone go at that time?? you missed some awesome morning trance!
What an incredibly beautiful site, brought back many memories from last year's romp...that space is filled with positive energy, thank god, as it seemed to protect us from the "fellows" that decided to show up around 2:45am... I thought for sure our fun would be stopped. But NO!
we were saved by the goa gods and mother nature.
From the very begining we were all thrust into psychedelic mayhem, and I hurt my knee and my neck from thrashing about so much.
Nothing like suffering for the cause, man.
Had so much fun with old and new friends.
I'm sorry I missed your IDM set, Jesiah (heard you did an awesome job!), and your always enjoyable set, mr. Goa Constrictor! If I didn't have to drive a friend home, I would have much rather have stayed because I was in NO shape to drive home so tired, almost falling asleep at the wheel a few times. But, I had to put my selfish wants aside and be a good friend.
**I think what has to be remembered, is that it's not how LONG you stay at a party, but HOW you spend your time...I read some other reviews, and there's too much emphasis on how "hardcore" everyone should be, like it's some sort of competition. Or that you're not hardcore enough if you haven't stayed from the first note to the last beat. Where's the love in that mentality? I mean, if you are going to come and just sit around, then why are you there? However, if you enjoyed just sitting at the fire socializing, then I think that's okay too...as long as you were enjoying the music, friends, and not whining like I see people do sometimes.
I mean, yeah, it would have been nice to see some more "hardcore" goa fans dancing later, but it was definitely nice to see everyone there and as many people at one time at the peak of it all. To have everyone there from beginning to end would be a miracle...but the fact that as many people did show up as there were at one time in the cold, was special enough to me...all I can say is, "wow" to that.
I've always helped out with packin' up or setting up, but this time was an exception. Thank you to all my friends that did that, the sound was awesome, the Om Chai House kicked ass, thank you to those that brought firewood and things to share.
Sorry for breaking the flow at the beginning of me and muschi's set...it was just one of those times I wasn't in the Zone...eep.
Can't wait for the next one!
adieu,

Psyki played a killer set, probably the best of the night! Muschi and Lara did well, despite the interruption that occurred.. and I danced so hard that my muscles are still hurting!
Good times.

I'm not saying it's better than what's ever "advertised" or common, but it's better to me and most of the people that throw it.

Wow, I feel absolutely gobsmacked. What a terrific vibe all night long and what fabulous music. I even got to dance a little bit!
Despite a brief appearance of the badge-wielding types, this first installment of Eskimo Summer 2003 has got to be one to remember. It certainly is a perfect way to start off goa in the new year. Especially if it is a harbinger of what's to come, count me in!
We'd also like to thank everyone who came and partook of the offerings of the Om Chai House. Although we weren't decked out as a crash space, we did have hot drinks and a braizer going to ward off the cold. Thanks for popping in and saying "hi".

I've said it before, and I'll say it again... there is something in the air for psytrance this year. Seems like almost everyone I talk to is just discovering the music, and the mood in the general air is one that feeds off psytrance... and rumors... of an amazing psychedelic trance year ahead! count me in!
and thank you Kari, and Marcus, for making it out and putting forth your wonderful offerings of hot chai! kept me going a couple times =)
see everyone at the next one!

Saturday night was Eskimo Summer...a full moon psytrance event up in the mountains in the freezing cold.. Its the sort of event where the bass is hard, the beat per minute is fast, people wear bunny suits just for fun and the dancefloor is made of snow and ice; not what most would consider a typical 'saturday night out' but its the sort of thing that really opens you up to experiencing yourself, others and the world in general in new and exciting ways.
We arrived at the location around 11:30pm, my roommate was supposed to spin at 10 but we were really late so he got bumped to 5:30am.. he was also really cold (he neglected to wear a hat or gloves...go figure) so at about 1:00am we trekked back to seattle so he could get gloves + hat, ect. By the time we got back around 3:30am the party was in full swing.. People were either gathered around the communal fire or dancing hard on the snowpack. The weather was clear and the moon was beautiful...there was a planet shining like an ultra-bright star next to the moon too...that combined with the fully-lit mountaintops and artic-like environs made for a memorable and magical setting. I was kind of upset that I was gone from the party for that timespan, I missed seeing my friend eric (psyki) spin what I'm told was a very good set and hanging out with some certain people I knew would be there....they were all leaving just as I got back. I spent the rest of the night talking and dancing, sometimes simultaneously. I love a good dancefloor vibe.. I spent a sizeable chunk of time talking with eli and dancing with lara.. Its so much fun to dance with people who are into the music as much as you are, there is a chemistry that develops between dancers... its a playful understanding sorta thing that just is a blast to experience...when you can feed and play off the energy of others having as much fun as you are you know you're having a good time.
I took some photos at the party, here's the full gallery: http://www.veovix.com/x/eskimosummer/. I bought myself a digital camera for xmas and I've been a photobug ever since...I'm still working on exactly how to take good pictures (especially at night, in PITCH BLACKNESS) but I'm getting better; some of the photos in that gallery are pretty messed up, others are rather good/interesting, at least I think so. (comments welcome!) I have a few favorites.. namely this one (http://www.veovix.com/x/eskimosummer/pages/IMG_1111.htm) and this one (http://www.veovix.com/x/eskimosummer/pages/IMG_1140.htm). My camera isnt very good at night photos, and most of these were like 3+ second exposures.. pardon the grainyness/blurryness.
As dawn approached I ran into someone I used to work with at Washington Mutual. About a year ago I took him to a NWLNC rally that was pretty much a psytrance event in downtown seattle.. he had never been to a party before and was amazed...he was dancing like a madman right from the start. Not long after the rally he quit wamu and I havent heard from him since.. Turns out the people he met at the rally and the whole 'underground music scene' touched him in a very profound way.. he's been traveling all around the NW ever since just going to parties and living 'on the fly' so to speak.. he thanked me for opening the door for him. This is something I've thought about quite a bit...not actually 'dropping out' and wandering around the country so much as the effect that being a member of alternative culture has on my views and my perceptions of the world/mass culture in general. In a lot of ways I feel very lucky for finding these beautiful people and places...lucky for finding another way to express myself then a majority of people that I know. When I think or talk about it with friends who dont/havent experienced these freeing moments of temporary autonominity that I so highly prize, I find that they just dont relate...they just dont question their own programming or path and dont understand why anyone would want to. sleepers. I think forcing yourself outside of comfort zones (sometimes literally *brrrr*) is so important...if only to get a perspective on what those comfort zones really are and how they effect you.
good show.

Back in August of last year, I posted a question about the whole idea of going out of one's Comfort Zone...I like your views on it, Rob.
:)
I think what we have in the Northwest as far as our little psytrance scene, is very sacred. In fact, with all the new popularity, I'm a little wary of what the next year will bring.
I only hope it will bring awareness of just how special it is, and not be just the new "cool" thing to do. But that people actually understand WHY this music is made, that it's not just dance music, not just an experience, not just a trip, not just community, not just a way of life, BUT ALL OF THAT.
Which I guess could be said for all "scenes", but when a community is so small, and kind of a little well known secret, it's something the "locals" don't want to have tainted...
kind of like a little town in the back woods of British Columbia or a hidden ancient tribe in Brazil.
Great pix, Veovix! too bad about the grainyness, yes. But you must have had fun with your new toy.

I have a few pictures up too:
http://www.kehoe.org/owen/picts/eskimosummer2003_1/
The first two pictures were taken a week before, when there was no snow!
This was fun and a very positive experience all around. Good music, good people, good weather...
I talked with the cops for a bit too, and handed over my ID (making me personally responsible for whatever might transpire later on, and probably putting my name into "the system")
The cops were impressed with the lack of alcohol present, and I think that single fact was the key to letting us continue uninhibited. Everyone should keep that in mind for future gatherings. Just treat the officers with respect and honestry, and generally they will do the same back. Use "selective honesty" when necessary.
I look forward to the next Eskimo Summer :)

there are several free areas for people to put up online photo albums... I've got a couple on Yahoo:
htttp://photos.yahoo.com .... I think MSN has one too....
I'd put them up on my server but I'm beginning to max out which isn't good for me... <sigh>

This is a belated review, to say I had a fantastic time at this little gathering...the kind of party that reminds me why i'm still going after all these years :) Anyways, Lara and Rob described it well, so I won't go into too many details. I would just add that I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to dance in the snow. And the rangers were totally cool. I wish that were the case more often with outdoor parties.
